What name(s) do you irrationally hate?

I'll start.

Denise.

I don't know any Denises... I'm sure they're lovely. But the name just rubs me up the wrong way.

NOTE: No Karen bashing please! Because it's been hijacked as a name and it's not fair on Karens.

Don't you find though that if you meet someone you like with a name you hated, you end up changing your mind about the name? Or is that just me?

I don't because I don't equate the name with the person or the person with the name. I can simultaneously like someone and hate their name or hate someone and like their name. Some of the names I posted, I know people with those names and I like them as people.Smile

Never trust a Kirsty.

Everyday21 · 03/04/2021 10:05

Oscar, Angus

Lauren, Zara

No idea why I just hate those names. Actually I know why i hate Zara, my bully at school gave birth to a Zara when she was 17, i also worked with a woman called Zara who wasnt very pleasant. My ex loved the name too and I remember thinking if we had kids there was no way I was using it

WindyPudding · 03/04/2021 10:08

Ian, really hate it. Hope it doesn’t make a comeback!
Feel a bit the same about Tim and Simon.

Emma, Lucy, Sophie etc seem prissy to me and I feel the same about my own name (which has appeared on the thread!)

Alex, Oscar, Olivia, Jack, Mia etc not that they are horrible, but so overused and boring so I’m always rolling my eyes when yet another new baby gets a name like that.

Agree about Lydia and don’t get why people are using it so much. I know a lovely Lydia (DD school friend) but it sounds like chlamydia or alternatively a horrible aunt in an old play.

waltzingparrot · 03/04/2021 10:10

Just don't like names that aren't really names
They are more....objects/nouns

North
Blue
River
Apple
Moon Unit

That type of name.

36degrees · 03/04/2021 10:10

Alison. The one nice Alison I know actually changed her name to something else.
Apologies to any lovely Alisons out there. I'm sure statistically there must be some.

There are some posters who are doing this wrong. It must be an IRRATIONAL hatred people! Stop giving your reasons!

WindyPudding · 03/04/2021 10:15

God yes Hunter. Horrible! There’s a Hunter at school and he’s not the best behaved child - DD’s always reporting his latest arseholery to me :o

Elise, no idea why I just really hate it!

WindyPudding · 03/04/2021 10:18

You’re right 4am but it’s the way it goes - can’t help it!

Purplecatshopaholic · 03/04/2021 10:20

Anything too out-there/common/popular (North? Please no), and most double barrelled first names. My friend had twin girls with double barrelled first names each, think Stacey Louise, Molly Mae, etc, an awful mouthful (they are now twin boys - whole other thread there - with single names each, and it’s much easier!)

TheSpanishApartment · 03/04/2021 10:21

Harrison

Vursayles · 03/04/2021 10:25

Gemma - absolutely the worst. Horrible.
Jenna - ugly old lady name. Second worst.
Emma - weak, insipid, boring
Laura/Lauren - mega boring
