What name(s) do you irrationally hate?

I'll start.

Denise.

I don't know any Denises... I'm sure they're lovely. But the name just rubs me up the wrong way.

NOTE: No Karen bashing please! Because it's been hijacked as a name and it's not fair on Karens.

Alison. Every Alison I have encountered has been horrible. I'm sure there a lovely ladies out there called Alison. I just haven't met any yet.

nicslackey · 02/10/2020 13:42

Joanne. But my dislike is not irrational!

SchadenfreudePersonified · 02/10/2020 14:09

Ahem.....I'm one of those names! I'm not particularly mad on it, but definitely no sociopathic tendencies

EXACTLY what a sociopath would say . . .

Sorry but Aurora. Seems to be so popular but I find it
A) awkward and difficult to say, with too many vowels and not enough hard consonants to glue it together
B) too disney

ByeGermsByeWorries · 02/10/2020 14:19

Another one for -May/-May/-Rae

Isla.

SallySeven · 02/10/2020 14:28

Aurora looks better than its sounds.

BurtonHouse · 02/10/2020 16:47

Louise. Childhood reasons. Also Debbie, Jackie, Angela, Christine, Emily. Can you tell I was bullied at school about 50 years ago?

lachy · 02/10/2020 17:21

I hate the name Craig. I considered not using our mortgage broker because his name is Craig, then I realised I was being ridiculous, to be fair I have only met one decent one so my judgement is somewhat clouded.

Double first names...
Masie-Rae, Lydia-Rose, Freddie-Jack

Sideorderofchips · 02/10/2020 18:04

Lauren.

Makes me thing of my bitch of an ex friend.

I know 2 Alison's and they couldn't be more different. One Alison would definitely look down her nose at the other Alison. I prefer 2nd Alison.
SchadenfreudePersonified · 02/10/2020 18:18

Libby-Jade.

I mean- really?

And then to go by "Ell-Jay"?

Hmm

I rest my case.

Yeah, not a fan of the name Craig either @lachy, reminds me of a particularly nasty ex....
AuntMasha · 02/10/2020 18:39

Ivanka.

Krazynights34 · 02/10/2020 19:06

Marnie and Ottilie are names I don’t like the sound of.
I will forever have a phobia of certain men’s names who have been shitheads though (Martin, Joakim, David, Chris)

StripeyDeckchair · 02/10/2020 19:13

Any name that when you hear it you dont know if its a boy or a girl.

Boys names with an A on the end for a girl (Nigella, Roberta & similar) it's basically saying "I wanted a boy but got a girl"

MrsMayo · 02/10/2020 19:48

I must be so lucky because I've met the best Pauls and then there was Paul Walker, he was alright Grin

Scoobidoo · 02/10/2020 20:01

D’Arcy

I can’t bear it.

Chocolatefreak · 02/10/2020 20:22

It's interesting that many of the names on here that people find irritating are currently popular ones. When I was at school there were three Sarahs in one class, two Matthews, two Simons as well as at least one in every other class at school and that used to irritate me because I felt a name should identify you from others. Now I realise that people sometimes choose a name for their child because they actually believe it's unusual and interesting...only to discover that everyone else of the same peer group has chosen it for the exact same reason.

EmotionalFlamingo · 02/10/2020 20:29

Charlene
Skye
Brooke
Mason
Archie

No rhyme or reason for them.

SallySeven · 02/10/2020 20:39

I think Preston is not a bad sounding name but I can't get away from it being a place name.

lachy · 03/10/2020 10:12

@CarnageAtTheGardenCentre

I wonder if we had the same ex! Surely to god there can't be two evil Craig's!

Whattodo914 · 03/10/2020 10:30

Most of these names don’t bother me at all. The only irrational name dislike I is Todd. I want it to be a nickname as it doesn’t sound like a name on its own, so in my mind I go to Toddington or Toddalod Grin

But even as a nickname it sounds so dull and flat... Todd.

IrmaFayLear · 03/10/2020 10:37

I hope one day to be proved wrong, but I have never met a nice Jo. In my first job there was a terrible bully called Jo. If I ever meet her again I’ll give her a piece of my mind (which I was too cowed to do when I was 21). I know now a Smug Jo and a I’m So Lovely, Me Jo and a lying Thief Jo...

I guess a lot of people around my age are called Jo!

beachedwhales · 03/10/2020 10:41

Karen. Ignoring all the memes and manager shit, it's a name I've never liked as it's so short, blunt and boring.

eatsleepread · 03/10/2020 10:49

I hate surnames as names, so Hunter, Cooper, etc.
And I hate sappy, flowery girls' names. Give them strong, feminine names FFS!
