What name(s) do you irrationally hate?

I'll start.

Denise.

I don't know any Denises... I'm sure they're lovely. But the name just rubs me up the wrong way.

NOTE: No Karen bashing please! Because it's been hijacked as a name and it's not fair on Karens.

I'm a Denise. It dawned on me a few years ago that i really dont like my own name .

Julia
Rita

two names I hate connected to two women I also detest

Lilly I just do not like as a name

gingerwhinger0 · 29/09/2020 10:52

Freya is a Norse goddess, not exactly weak and insipid, but I guess personal experience might over ride that.

lakeswimmer · 29/09/2020 10:56

Emily and Alice - wet

Albie and Grace are names i completely detest in children.

I could also never go out with a Duncan or a Brian.

ComfortablyGlum · 29/09/2020 12:11

Imogen - sounds like a medicine for irritable bowels.
Amelia - always think mealie worms shudder
Olivia / Oliver - the ‘liver’ sound is vile - clueless why these two are so popular.
Ronnie/Reggie/Archie/Alfie - invariably the spawn of loud, Range Rover driving middle aged men with beer belly’s who hope their sons grow up to be ‘bad lads with a heart of gold’.
Marnie - sounds like a downtrodden Dickensian waif
Arthur - belongs to that old bloke you see in every town, speeding angrily around on a an electric scooter bemoaning the ‘youth of today’. Smells slightly of wee and cats.
Mia - pointless nothing name unless your surname is culpa which nudges up the interest a tad.
Jasper. Fine for pets, makes a baby sound like a rather chubby tabby cat. See also Arlo, Felix and Toby.

Julian
And then I married one.
Sidestepped it by calling him Jules.
Got divorced.
Don't have to face it on a daily basis now.

I really hate this stupid "old people" name trend that's in just now. Who ever looked at a baby and thought "you're definitely an Ethel/ Albert"??

Sydney - especially as a girl's name.

Poppet1974 · 02/10/2020 09:34

Don’t really mind most names but there was a ‘Lally’ on the TV the other day. It’s more of a noise than a name, just so blah🥴

BigusBumus · 02/10/2020 09:44

@Poppet1974 I know a Lally! She's terribly terribly posh and her real name is Elizabeth.

MrsMoastyToasty · 02/10/2020 09:48

I hate any name with a first letter then an apostrophe.

Laura

Every single one I met is horrid.

PurplePansy05 · 02/10/2020 09:57

And Elsie/Gracie/Tommy and other diminutives of proper names used as the first name. I can't imagine a 40 yo "Gracie", it sounds ridiculous.

FatimaMunchy · 02/10/2020 10:18

Imfatletsparty totally agree. My mother is horrified that names like Audrey and Hilda are making a comeback.

FatimaMunchy · 02/10/2020 10:19

PurplePansy05 you are clearly too young to remember Gracie Fields then.

Spidey66 · 02/10/2020 10:24

Anne/Anna sociopathic tendencies every single one but the Annie I know wonderful woman

Ahem.....I'm one of those names! I'm not particularly mad on it, but definitely no sociopathic tendencies. Shock

Hotpinkangel19 · 02/10/2020 10:32

Nevaeh. Just awful

IntermittentParps · 02/10/2020 13:18

I can't think of any examples of this.
