What way do you put the bread in the toaster? Straight down (so longest side is on the side) or on its side (so longest side is on the bottom) ??

On its side. But lots of toasters aren’t big enough to do this Angry

catsarebetterthandogs9 · 26/09/2020 07:29

On its side, otherwise the top never cooks! Unless you use braces bread

Kpo58 · 26/09/2020 07:31

Straight down on a standard 2 slot toaster or on its side on my long slot toaster because otherwise the top doesn't get toasted.

Also straight down if I'm using sandwich bags so that the cheese can't end up in the toaster.

cariadlet · 26/09/2020 07:32

If I had a longer toaster, I'd put it sideways to be sure all the slice was evenly toasted.

AmelieTaylor · 26/09/2020 07:40

Toast....mmmmm.

I'd take it anyway! (Diabetic, diet controlled, not able to eat lovely toasted carbs 😢)

But naturally I'd put it 'standing up' but 'on its side' if it fit better., but it doesn't feel right.

WisestIsShe · 26/09/2020 07:44

Agree with pps, on its side to allow for even toasting.

Needanewnamenow · 26/09/2020 08:02

Oh my god, I never even considered laying it on it's side. I am 41, how have I got through life

Ninkanink · 26/09/2020 08:07

Definitely on its long side if the toaster allows. Which our current one doesn’t so I put it in on the short side. Then halfway through I’ll flip it so both ends get toasted.

RedCatBlueCat · 26/09/2020 08:17

On the side, or you get a raw top (or at least that's the case in our current toaster).

StanfordPines · 26/09/2020 08:19

Which ever way fits. Does it matter what way that is?

But then I’ll cut my toast from the top to the bottom, rather than across the middle or diagonally so I’m clearly some kind of toast heathen.

TroysMammy · 26/09/2020 08:20

Not about which side down but toast related. I overheard someone in a cafe "why do we say as warm as toast when toast goes cold very quickly?"

FedUpAtHomeTroels · 26/09/2020 08:39

Whatever way it drops is how I put it in. Then check and turn it if it's not toasted on one end.

barberousbarbara · 26/09/2020 09:54

We have a Breville/Warburton's toaster which is big enough to put a slice in without putting it on it's side. I'm picky with my toast and turn it a couple of times during toasting to make sure it's even.

Jeremyironseverything · 26/09/2020 09:57

On its side.

Do you butter when it's warm or wait until it's cold?

Greentulips1 · 26/09/2020 10:01

Short side then flip it round half way through toasting

Fallsballs · 26/09/2020 10:03

Sideways of course unless it’s a weird loaf. Any other way is madness.

Mafsaaddict · 26/09/2020 10:03

On it’s side because our toaster is tiny. We have to use that mini bread Sad

mintich · 26/09/2020 10:28

Omg I can't believe how many side toasters there are! I told my husband that no one did, and he was weird!

Oh and I have to butter when its warm

OP posts:
DiscombobulatedAf · 26/09/2020 10:31

I can’t believe I never thought to put the bread in on its side. I’ve been eating half cooked toast for reason Shock

VettiyaIruken · 26/09/2020 10:34

On its side. My toaster isn't tall enough to toast the whole thing otherwise.

pimble · 26/09/2020 10:35

Side then toast rack until cool then butter and thick cut marmelade

gurglebelly · 26/09/2020 10:55

I love that this is a question!! I put mine bottom down but then flip it over part way through

gurglebelly · 26/09/2020 10:56

@StanfordPines

Which ever way fits. Does it matter what way that is?

But then I’ll cut my toast from the top to the bottom, rather than across the middle or diagonally so I’m clearly some kind of toast heathen.

What kind of monster cuts their toast across the middle 😱. Top to bottom or diagonal surely??
lughnasadh · 26/09/2020 10:59

I actually buy sliced bread according to whether or not it fits in the toaster. Always sideways.

I don't know of any that fits right way up.

Tesco fits. Aldi doesn't.

Sourdough just needs cutting half. I love sourdough.

BogRollBOGOF · 26/09/2020 11:01

Depends on the bread. My bread is wider than it is tall.
