They’ve only been back in school for ten blooming days and we’ve got fucking nits 😡

We’ve been completely clear over all of lockdown and...they’re heerrrre!!

I wouldn’t mind but they’re Year 9 and 10. I thought we would be done with it, but
noooo!! Looks like we’re back to the weekly checks again.

OP posts:

Completely understandable that the nits are annoying but surely by age 13-14 they're old enough to do their own weekly checks and treatments?

Quirrelsotherface · 20/09/2020 14:44

Thought it was going to be something awful from your angry subject line. Could be worse really, with all the other stuff going on in the UK at the moment.

Oh for goodness sake. OP didn't say they were not doing this. Get a bloody grip and don't come on posts just to have a bitch. Honestly this 'they are old enough to do it themselves' shite is boring.

OP I feel your pain and title to understand the concept of being at home lending being both nit and check free.

gamerchick · 20/09/2020 14:47

It's awful. It just tells you all those poor buggers whos itching gets ignored.

Another poster just popped along to have a go Hmm

Of course it 'could be worse'. It could always be worse, that's no reason to be dismissive though.

Whataroyalannoyance · 20/09/2020 14:48

Social distancing doesn't apply to nits!

To be honest, if I found out I had nits, I would be straight round to my mum to help me get rid of them.
Splodgetastic · 20/09/2020 14:49

Minging. Probably because so many children have been neglected over lockdown and not washed.

Can you inspect your own scalp? Hmm

They may be old enough but it's hard to do your own hair. Especially if it's long and thick.
DeliasDinner · 20/09/2020 14:53

Blimey. I can spot nits on others easily, but I've never been able to check my own head. How on earth do you do that with any accuracy?

Poor you OP. They are such a pain.

BertieBob · 20/09/2020 14:56

I'm itching just reading this

ineedaholidaynow · 20/09/2020 14:57

Much easier checking someone else’s head rather than your own surely.

Their heads must have been very close to someone else to get nits

holdmysocks · 20/09/2020 14:57

We need to set up an international council who meet annually to decide what person has the worst problem in the world.

Only this person is allowed to have a moan.

holdmysocks · 20/09/2020 14:57

Would that suit you Quirrelsotherface?

Girlzroolz · 20/09/2020 15:00

I was sure this (and a few other contagious middling things) would take ages to ramp up again after Covid breaks. I’d be as cross as you (or more!) to discover them a few days in!

And really, there’s no such thing as checking your own scalp. I mean seriously. Did that poster confuse nits with other body lice??? Let’s all be grateful if our teens aren’t itching elsewhere, and be done with that theory. Sheesh.

Witchend · 20/09/2020 15:00

It's worse now at secondary rather than primary apparently (from school nurse) down to selfies where they all put their heads together.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 20/09/2020 15:03

Isn't it quite tricky to do your own checks and treatment? I used to check DH as well as the DC. I've found secondary much better than primary though, neither have mine have had nits for ages.

BatShite · 20/09/2020 15:03

I would have thought it might take a while for stuff like this to come back. Lockdown in theory shuld have lowered the number of infected people drastically, and there was more than enough time throughout this to get their hair treated. Which leads me to the conclusion that..its likely the poor child who is spreading it has had an extremely itchy head for months ad the parents don't care.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 20/09/2020 15:05

Feel your pain, OP.

It did give me a laugh though, sorry!

Fucking buggers.

Leafbeans · 20/09/2020 15:05

You'd have thought they would be seriously depleted in numbers after not having their usual feeding ground, the sad reality is that some children have probably been left with itchy heads as there hasn't been the pressure from school etc to sort it out Sad. On the plus side they're old enough to sort it.

Puffinhead · 20/09/2020 15:06

Oh, I’m sorry OP! We all had a terrible case of head lice just when we went into lockdown. My DD14 had been itching but didn’t think to tell anyone so by the time we knew about it her scalp was crawling (She has thick long hair) and her sisters and me were all invested - it was disgusting. I felt traumatised by the whole experience- I’d never had bits before I had children!

Puffinhead · 20/09/2020 15:07

Nits not bits!

Struggling to picture my mum telling me to sort it out myself if I came home from school with nits.

Your level of parenting sounds shite; unless you're just an internet gobshite of course.

FortunesFave · 20/09/2020 15:09

I agree with PP. OP's kids are old enough to manage them themselves. Unless there are special needs....my younger DD would nit comb herself very well from age 9 or so.
