They’ve only been back in school for ten blooming days and we’ve got fucking nits 😡

We’ve been completely clear over all of lockdown and...they’re heerrrre!!

I wouldn’t mind but they’re Year 9 and 10. I thought we would be done with it, but
noooo!! Looks like we’re back to the weekly checks again.

Are effing nits different from the usual ones?

I got the dreaded nit message last week, though mines only year 2! Luckily my offspring was free of them.

@Quirrelsotherface

Thought it was going to be something awful from your angry subject line. Could be worse really, with all the other stuff going on in the UK at the moment.
Hmm yes same thought. I mean......so what?

My daughter never had a problem with nits in primary school but secondary was a different matter altogether. Apparently a lot of parents think it's a problem that doesn't affect older children. We spent a fortune on different products and kept informing the school, who did absolutely nothing. This meant that we would get her head clean and then she would catch them again because other people could not be bothered to check their children's heads. I mentioned it to her form tutor and said there must be other affected children as it was so rampant and the reply was that he had seen a lot of them scratching their heads. There was never even a single note home to warn parents there was a problem.

telvg · 21/09/2020 20:57

You’re lucky. It took 2 days for my daughter. I’ve done them every couple of days since they went back. There’s been at least 1 great big one that’s crawled in each time. I spoke to my daughter’s best friend’s mum. She said she had nearly got them sorted before her daughter went back to school. The girl’s mum has a learning disability and just doesn’t get it!

Celestine70 · 21/09/2020 21:23

We had it in year 9 in our school also.

Gill61 · 21/09/2020 21:42

Same here, I feel your pain, but made me laugh

SurroundedByIdiotsEverywhere · 21/09/2020 22:49

Hahaha... Just be glad they are not pubic lice!

FelicisNox · 21/09/2020 23:45

Fucking nits. Hate them.

Bobbi73 · 22/09/2020 02:02

I really thought lock down would help with the nits situation. Apparently a lot of people don't get itchy heads so only know if you see them. Still, I can't believe you don't notice. The first time my son had them, I saw one wandering across his forehead. Many years later and they still freak me out!

SallyB392 · 22/09/2020 10:15

This made me chuckle (sorry), our house seemed to be alive with unwelcome visitors for around 25 yrs, if it wasn't nits, it was worms, and don't mention skin infections, tummy upsets, snot, .......I could go on, the only thing that seemed to help with the head lice was tight plaits for the girls or very short hair for my son.

I also gave up with the products that you can buy and made my own, conditioner with 5 drops of tea tree oil and 5 of mint oil per 20ML, leave it in then comb through. Any infestations got this treatment for 3 days on the trot then back to twice weekly from then on.

That said the 2 worst ever infestations were once when my daughter had a REALLY bad case of chickenpox, and at 11pm on Xmas eve discovering my then 14yr old oldest was teeming with the devils......and This in the days before bank holiday opening, hence starting to make my o an treatment!

jentinquarantino20 · 22/09/2020 12:04

I’m scratting just reading this. I’ve been checking my daughter all the time because she seems to want to be friends with this girl who is never treated and her mum has actually said she doesn’t care that she always has them. It’s disgusting. Why is there no longer a nit nurse?

Brilliant 😂

Completely understandable that the nits are annoying but surely by age 13-14 they're old enough to do

Do you dye your own hair or do you Ask someone to help you? Don’t be so mean. It doesn’t matter their age. It you need behind your ears or the back of your hairline checking you ask someone to help. Glad you’re not my parent. I’ll bet your kids were up the chimney by the age of 10!

Great recipe, thank you!

Helpful comment....

Actually when our child came home with head lice the whole family got treated and my husband and I helped each other as well as doing the kids. It's just easier and more effective to have someone else do it, the eyes not being up in the hair and all. The OPs gripe was the lice, not who does it.

jamdonut · 23/09/2020 19:32

I saw some in a child’s hair on day one!

Fuckityfucksake · 30/09/2020 14:36

Another recipe
get a spray bottle
I use boiled water and add 20 drops of tea tree and 20 drops of lavender essential oils. a splodge of conditioner and shake it thoroughly after mixing and again before every use.
My sister then sprays my nieces hair while doing it on a morning and another spritz once the plait or ponytail is done.
Apparently it also helps detangle while brushing it too so double bonus.
She's not had them since using this. She used to get them continuously before.
