If you won the lottery would you stay in your current house?

I was thinking about this earlier. We moved house last year and as much as I love the house itself I wish we’d done more research into the area as it’s quite noisy and we get a lot of youths hanging about etc. If we won the lottery we would definitely move again.

What would you do?

Would definitely move, even if we only won a ‘modest’ amount (£25k etc).

We like our house but not the area and it would be the catalyst we need to move.

Sarahlou63 · 19/09/2020 22:02

Absolutely! Well, I'd have it knocked down and rebuilt but the land - 3h of rolling hills and a hidden valley - and the area is lovely so would definitely stay put.

MaverickDanger · 19/09/2020 22:03

Yeah we’d probably stay, unless it was tens of millions and then we’d quit our jobs.

We only moved last year and really like where we live & our neighbours.

If it was a few million, then we’d probably buy a couple of holiday homes in France & Australia, but keep this house too.

Sheepareawesome · 19/09/2020 22:04

We would stay here but I would finally get the artex sorted! And I would get the cupboard door fixed as it's been hanging off for 9 years. Hmm actually there are quite a few DIY jobs that I would do but I wouldn't move.

Thirty2andBlue · 19/09/2020 22:04

I'd be straight down to the estate agents!! I've wanted to move for 5 years Sad and the lottery win would hopefully give DH the biggest kick up the arse!

YouJustDoYou · 19/09/2020 22:04

Yes

Dryadia · 19/09/2020 22:04

I would buy some land and have something built like this
www.zillow.com/homedetails/6-Sea-Glass-Newport-Coast-CA-92657/63114287_zpid/?utm_source=email&utm_medium=email&utm_content=hdpimage&utm_campaign=emo-homereport&mmlb=g,10

I even have the floorplans saved as a starting point. It would have to overlook the west coast, so we could watch the sun go down over the ocean. Grin

Disfordarkchocolate · 19/09/2020 22:06

Yup. Same town, definitely not far from where we are but with off street parking and a few more rooms. Nothing massive though because I don't want the stress.

We'd have to win about 100k to do it though because I can only work part-time now.

Dryadia · 19/09/2020 22:07

Oh and I have built this in Sims Grin, as a home it works really well Wink. Just trying to persuade Dh to buy me the expensive coffee table book it is showcased in. For future reference, of course.

BuffaloCauliflower · 19/09/2020 22:07

Not in this house no, as we’re renting, but I’d stay in this location and buy a nice house at the other side of the village in the good school catchment.

Carycy · 19/09/2020 22:08

I would keep it As we love it but it isn’t quite big enough for our family at the moment. Everything else is perfect. So would buy a bigger house knowing we could move back in further down the line or move straight back if we hated it.

notangelinajolie · 19/09/2020 22:09

Hell no.

ReeseWitherfork · 19/09/2020 22:11

I wouldn’t move, I really love my house!

WheresMyAlex · 19/09/2020 22:11

Seeing as I’m currently listening to my neighbours sing the soundtrack to Mama Mia at the top of their voices, yes I’d move.

HappyDinosaur · 19/09/2020 22:12

Yes, we've just bought somewhere we'd be happy to live in from now until we grow old. Think I have quite modest tastes! I'd do a lot of the work that needs doing in one go though rather than gradually over the years.

ReeseWitherfork · 19/09/2020 22:14

At least hopefully it’s drowning out the sound of Pierce Brosnan singing?

EasilyDeleted · 19/09/2020 22:14

I'd buy next door (semi-detached), knock through and completely remodel to make a one big house. I love our house and love the location but it's too small.

CoffeeRunner · 19/09/2020 22:15

Definitely move. I love the village we live in, and DD is very happy at the local school, but we only have a smallish 3 bed house & need 4. 5 ideally as DH is now working from home a few days a week.

DS1 is 23 & autistic, he needs his own room & own space that’s just for him. DS2 is 19 & DD is 9. Clearly not ideal for them to share a room either. So the DCs have the bedrooms & we do the lounge-bedroom thing with wardrobes in DDs room (it’s a double room so big enough).

In fact a 4 bed house is the reason I buy lottery tickets Grin. There’s about a £100k price difference between 3 & 4 beds here.

nowaitaminute · 19/09/2020 22:15

Yes! I designed and had this house built...I am never moving again! But I would possibly add on to it!!

Bulblasagne · 19/09/2020 22:17

Yes I'd love although I'd miss where I am. Think I'd have to go for London, primrose Hill maybe... On bustling Road. Then have the quiet country retreat as well.

RevolutionRadio · 19/09/2020 22:20

Depends how much I won.

My dream house would have a swimming pool, won't get that where we live now.

EhUp · 19/09/2020 22:22

Assuming I won more than about 100K then I would move yes

I wouldn't want anything really flashy or grand but a detached house with nice south facing garden would definitely be at the top of my shopping list

I'm perfectly happy living in current house and location is great but would upgrade a little if money was no object

ulanbatorismynextstop · 19/09/2020 22:23

No way, I would upscale massively. Can't believe how many would stay put 🤷‍♀️

stayathomer · 19/09/2020 22:23

I was just about to say yes and then I thought 'If I won the lottery I could afford to live next to mum!' (and started crying-stupid covid!!)
