If you won the lottery would you stay in your current house?

I was thinking about this earlier. We moved house last year and as much as I love the house itself I wish we’d done more research into the area as it’s quite noisy and we get a lot of youths hanging about etc. If we won the lottery we would definitely move again.

What would you do?

Maybe
I'd love a swimming pool but I love our house.
I'd have quite a lot done to it though.
Solar panels and wind turbine
Redo electrics and pumping so the heating is more even- the previous owners extended without really changing pipe work and some rooms never get warm enough.

I'd change the roof as there is a flat section where there could be sloped.

Pay a landscape gardener to come in and design a new garden

@WheresMyAlex it's not me, it's my son, honest. 😂. No idea where the Mamma Mia obsession has suddenly come from.

I'd not move. I would build another bedroom above the garage though. I have the best neighbours and it's handy for everything. I would buy a property abroad though. Majorca or Portugal I think.

I wouldn't bother with a massive country pile with swimming pool. Too much hassle. Love where I live but would like a bigger house, just noticed a house a few doors down is a 6 bed and been extended beautifully downstairs. Well out of my price range but I'd buy it tomorrow if we won the lottery (and change the carpets before we moved.)

We are renting so wouldn't stay in this house, but I have my eye on a similar house in the next road

RoseMartha · 20/09/2020 13:11

I am having to go from a house to small flat with the dc in a few weeks. So if I won i would move back into a house again yes.

FinallyHere · 20/09/2020 13:12

I'd probably use it to buy an investment property to let out and stay here, even though I hate my noisy neighbours.

How about buying out the noisy neighbours, via a solicitor led trust (so they don't know it's you)? Then rent out that house, with strict covenants about no noise.

TSSDNCOP · 20/09/2020 13:14

Yes, but within a month it would look vastly different.

I'd also have a house by the coast here and one in the S of France or Malibu. One with a private path to the beach with a jetty and a little boat.

Flaunch · 20/09/2020 13:14

Depends how much we won. Less than 500k probably not. Anything above that then definitely. I love my house but I’d like more land.

Lazysundayafternoons · 20/09/2020 13:15

Were just about to start our build (planning and mortgage have now been approved), we love the house we designed and it has everything we need in it, but if we won the lotto I think I'd add an indoor pool to it.

BikeRunSki · 20/09/2020 13:15

No, I’d get a bigger house in the same village

MsJuniper · 20/09/2020 13:20

Under £1m I'd probably just pay off mortgage and make a few improvements. I'd rather spend the money enjoying life and investing for the DC's future.

More than that - maybe but we might stay in the same area and move to a larger house so we have more living space. I do like our house but the kitchen is tiny and it would be nice to have a bigger garden.

Insane amount more - yes massive house in more central location!

@unlimiteddilutingjuice

You are absolutely right, I do love a plan. 😀

It's not quite one in fourteen million chance of happening, closer to zero in fourteen million, since I've not actually bough a ticket.

SimonJT · 20/09/2020 14:13

I’m fairly certain I’d stay, I love our little home. Although the flat upstairs is for sale, so then I could be all posh and call it a penthouse.

unlimiteddilutingjuice · 20/09/2020 14:15

Excellent! A detailed plan for something that definately wont happen. Even better.

Ninkanink · 20/09/2020 14:17

Yes. It’s a lovely old house that I adore and I wouldn’t want to move.

I’d buy a house back home in Denmark, a little summer house back in Denmark, and a sea-view flat in Bournemouth.

FinallyHere · 20/09/2020 14:18

There's a lot to recommend a plan which never gets delivered. Nothing ever goes wrong, there is nothing that could have been 'even better if'. 's brilliant. 😆

TheWestCoast · 20/09/2020 15:12

Yes, we would stay, but would finally have the extra cash to make a few improvements.

Our driveway needs doing. I'd like to knock down the garage and rebuild, with a snazzy remote controlled electric door and change the flat roof to a pitched one, with extra storage space up there.

We have enough inside space, but it needs redecorating throughout.

And I'd pay someone to landscape the garden and make a nicer sitting out area and make everything lower maintenance.
