OH has fell down the stairs

Just moved into our new house today and OH has just gone and fell down the stairs the ambulance has just taken him to hospital.

I've got a job interview tomorrow and everything is still in boxes.

How bad are broken ankles will he still be able to look after the kids while I go?

@FredaFrogspawn

What are you insinuating Galaxy?

MN has really hit a low with all these accusatory posts hovering around the fringes of a poor woman trying to get some good advice.

OP - I hope you manage to get to your interview. Just having another pair of hands around - your husband can still be in charge - would make leaving them for a few hours much safer before you fully know how much pain/immobility he is suffering.

I am asking because in my experience working in A&E, he is very lucky not to have broken anything else. I once looked after someone who fell down the stairs and died, another a young adult broke the neck and is now completely paralysed. So thank god it was not more serious, so jog on with your shitty attitude eh?
iklboo · 19/09/2020 12:45

'Not as odd as an ambulance for a broken ankle.'

He'd fallen downstairs - no way of knowing the ankle was broken or if there were other serious injuries without medical assistance. Maybe he could have hopped to the nearest A&E, crawled on his eyelashes or teleported. But an ambulance was still probably the more sensible option.

SaskiaRembrandt · 19/09/2020 12:48

@Thisismytimetoshine

Is the poster claiming to have hopped to the hospital on one leg for real? Confused. I thought it was a pisstake but everyone seems to be taking her seriously.
On MN it's really hard to tell.
GalaxyCookieCrumble · 19/09/2020 12:50

@Kb12

Can't understand why they wouldn't do an X-ray because it was too swollen, that makes no sense. Swelling doesn't effect the image quality whatsoever. Hope he's ok.
Actually it does, they normally wait a week because of this, this is protocol in my hospital.
TitsOutForHarambe · 19/09/2020 12:59

You aren't fucked - just a bump in the road. A big bump lol.

Just focus on getting yourself to that interview and doing the best you can. Call anyone you can think of to pop by for an hour and watch the kids.

Then you can focus on the issue of setting up the house. I know it's annoying to have shit everywhere but you will cope. Gradually it will all get sorted.

Estrellente · 19/09/2020 16:17

Swelling can definitely affect image quality in xrays.

Kb12 · 19/09/2020 18:08

The swelling will be worse today. They wait a week for ankle xrays after initial injury? I'm a doctor and I've never heard of this

comeoneileenn · 19/09/2020 21:23

MIL and FIL came in the end and I went to the interview so very grateful for them. I'm not happy with how the interview went but I will have to wait and see now

That's good, fingers crossed for a positive result. How's DH?

saiditbetterthanme · 19/09/2020 21:50

OP, I'm sure you did your best! You've had a difficult 24 hours. Well done for still getting to the interview. You are amazing :)

Sewrainbow · 19/09/2020 22:01

@LockedInMadness

Not as odd as an ambulance for a broken ankle

Totally agree. Fair enough if he couldn't walk on both legs but for just one potentially broken ankle he didn't need an ambulance, ever heard of a taxi? No wonder people are dying waiting for ambulances if they're taken up with minor things like this.
When I broke my foot in several places I hopped on the other one until I got to the hospital fgs.

Don't you realise that some breaks are much more.serious than others?!

Open fractures, dislocations, severe displacement that can compromise nerves and vascular systems.... the NHS recommend an ambulance for limb threatening injuries.

tiredanddangerous · 19/09/2020 22:09

Anyone who thinks it's a good idea to fall down the stairs and then get up and hop with a broken ankle is seriously hard of thinking.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for your job op and I hope your dh heals quickly Flowers

iklboo · 19/09/2020 22:25

When I broke my foot in several places I hopped on the other one until I got to the hospital fgs.

Our nearest A&E is 8 miles away. Forrest Gump would be hard pressed to hop that.

MrMeeseekscando · 19/09/2020 22:31

I broke mine and was in a wheelchair for 6 weeks.
I'd make other arrangements urgently

Ontheboardwalk · 19/09/2020 22:39

Surely falling down the stairs and breaking a bone is one of the most legitimate reasons for calling an ambulance. Surely the clue is in the title of where they are taking you

I badly broke my ankle in my teens and was put in a back of a van and taken to A&E. looking back I think I would have preferred the hopping transport option 😂

JamieLeeCurtains · 19/09/2020 23:02

Hop-a-long Casualty is going to be the stuff of MN legend.

Petitmum · 20/09/2020 09:30

Dh broke his ankle over Christmas. He got away with needing to have surgery but was unable to put any weight on it for three months. It was a nightmare!!!

ClinkyMonkey · 20/09/2020 11:59

Well done for getting organised for an interview after all that stress. I would give you the job for your determination alone! All the very best.

SorryImKnew · 20/09/2020 12:09

How is your DH today?

As for hop-along-Cassidy! Grin

Lol-ing at the posters slithering and rolling to A&E haha.

Yerroblemom1923 · 20/09/2020 12:14

I broke my ankle in two places and dislocated it. I was so paranoid that my injury was not ambulance-worthy and yet I couldn't have descended the stairs or got into a car to hospital. I was so scared I was wasting the NHS' time. I wasn't.
And I'm not wimpy. I'd rather give birth again (home birth no pain relief) than break my ankle. I have never known pain like it.

comeoneileenn · 20/09/2020 12:28

Thanks everyone very kind of you all.

He is ok but getting slightly fed up because he can't do anything and we've had about 100 arguments as he keeps ordering me to do everything whilst I'm trying to entertain the kids. If a crumb or a bit of my hair drops on the floor he looses it he wants to keep the new how immaculate as I do to but It's hard at moment.

Can't wait for this to be over!

OP posts:
ineedaholidaynow · 20/09/2020 12:49

You have 2 young children to entertain, the house does not have to be immaculate. Is he normally like that?

Smallsteps88 · 20/09/2020 12:54

You’ve got much bigger problems than a broken ankle.

At least while he’s immobile you can put on earphones and go to another room. Your real problem returns when he can walk again .

comeoneileenn · 20/09/2020 13:40

Yep always on my back about keeping everything clean I honestly feel like walking out and leaving him
