Just moved into our new house today and OH has just gone and fell down the stairs the ambulance has just taken him to hospital.

I've got a job interview tomorrow and everything is still in boxes.

How bad are broken ankles will he still be able to look after the kids while I go?

😂😂😂
In your place I would buy an emergency skateboard just in case.

giantangryrooster · 19/09/2020 01:40

And sorry for the derail OP. I think it was a good call you didn't make him walk Wink. Best of luck tomorrow.

nocoolnamesleft · 19/09/2020 01:41

A bike? You get a paramedic with a bike? We'd kill for a paramedic with a bike. We get a first aider on a skateboard. And that's only in leap years.

nachthexe · 19/09/2020 01:46

@Prettybluepigeons

Bedpans
Are you planning on knocking the children out with them?
TeddyIsaHe · 19/09/2020 01:47

Christ, imagine being @FromDespairToHere family.

You’d have to have your head chopped off before they even considered getting a next day GP appointment.

Moonshinemisses · 19/09/2020 01:55

You called an ambulance, I broke both my legs and my arm fell off. I slithered to the hospital along broken glass with 3 kids on my back so as not to be a burden on the NHS!!. Ring the job interview & explain I'm sure they will re arrange. Hope you Dh is ok and congrats on the new house

nocoolnamesleft · 19/09/2020 02:14

Joking aside, I was once told off by the triage nurse for not coming in by ambulance. And then he took me through to resus.

ohbrightlight · 19/09/2020 02:19

How else would you get to the hospital I’d say your partner was away/you didn’t drive/you were single and it was 3 in the morning? Hmm

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 19/09/2020 02:58

I would also consider re-arranging your interview if you can, OP.

You did nothing wrong calling an ambulance, makes the most sense, especially if it was a nasty fracture, or a compound fracture (where the bone breaks the skin). Ignore the competitive miseries.

But I don't think it would be fair to ask him to look after the 2 tiny kids, even if he thinks he can - as you can see, accidents happen, and it would be sod's law for something to happen while he can't easily get to the kids to help them. Don't take that chance - if you can't get anyone else in to help him, or take the kids for you, then try to re-arrange the interview.

@PickAChew

Damn, you're right, *@fromdespairtohere*

Only the bus (off peak) would have been the acceptable mode of transport to A&E. Or he could have driven himself Hmm

Driving with a suspected broken bone is very irresponsible, he should have gone on his bike.

Op good luck with the interview.

Count yourself lucky, we get a goat. It used to be a St. Bernard but he demanded too many pay rises and drank all the brandy.
YellowandGreenToBeSeen · 19/09/2020 03:19

@LockedInMadness

Not as odd as an ambulance for a broken ankle

Totally agree. Fair enough if he couldn't walk on both legs but for just one potentially broken ankle he didn't need an ambulance, ever heard of a taxi? No wonder people are dying waiting for ambulances if they're taken up with minor things like this.
When I broke my foot in several places I hopped on the other one until I got to the hospital fgs.

And yet, there was I, alone and in absolute agony when I broke my ankle in 3 places, So much so that I got the Blues and Twos and was in hospital for 4 weeks, had 2 lots of surgery and was non-weight bearing for 4 months and on crutches for 7 months in total.

Yeah, I coulda, woulda, shoulda hopped via the bus.... Hmm

Hope your old man is a ‘I drove for 69 miles with no feel’ variety OP.

@giantangryrooster

Just asking as a foreigner, given the outrage of the use of ambulances on MN, do you only have one for the whole of Britain?

See my previous post re ‘broke in three places’ - I fell down one step at home.
FredaFrogspawn · 19/09/2020 03:27

What are you insinuating Galaxy?

MN has really hit a low with all these accusatory posts hovering around the fringes of a poor woman trying to get some good advice.

OP - I hope you manage to get to your interview. Just having another pair of hands around - your husband can still be in charge - would make leaving them for a few hours much safer before you fully know how much pain/immobility he is suffering.

lunar1 · 19/09/2020 03:34

They might keep him in for surgery or have given him enough painkillers that he would be unsafe to look after the children.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 19/09/2020 03:44

@GalaxyCookieCrumble

"falling down the stairs" could be as little as slipping down a few steps, not going the whole flight.

Honestly, some people will pick up on anything just to be contrary.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 19/09/2020 03:46

@YellowandGreenToBeSeen - yep, one step is all it takes - my mum also broke her ankle slipping down one step (not in 3 places, luckily, that must have been really bad!)

LunaNorth · 19/09/2020 03:59

Hopping to the hospital Grin

Bahhhhhumbug · 19/09/2020 04:21

I wouldn't cancel or postpone your interview because your dh has fallen down the stairs / is incapacitated in any way.
Sure there are anti discrimination laws in place but lm not too sure highlighting the fact that your attendance, even at interview stage is totally dependant on one specific adult being available for childcare and that you have no alternative stand in., is a good idea.

RadioActiveBrain · 19/09/2020 04:31

😂😂 can't sleep and this made me laugh out loud

Hope he feels better soon and good luck with the interview!

DisgruntledPelican · 19/09/2020 04:32

It is perfectly fine to call an ambulance for a sudden incident like falling down the fucking stairs when the extent and severity of injuries are not clear! The martyrdom on here is ridiculous.

ragged · 19/09/2020 04:41

Classics, I hope!!

speakout · 19/09/2020 05:02

OP hope your OH is OK.

Assuming your OH is home he should be able to watch the kids for a couple of hours with a broken ankle.
Stack a pile of food and drinks in the room, have OH stick on the TV- they will be fine watching movies and eating while OH rests on the sofa.
