I've invited 4 people around for lunch : what would you prefer to eat?

Homemade soup, cheese, baguette, pâte, or

Homemade chicken casserole (with veg in the gravy) and roast potatoes

Friend is bringing a cake so I have no control over that Grin

Will serve wine with the meal and coffees /tea afterwards

If there is wine and pudding do the casserole Smile

BooFuckingHoo2 · 17/09/2020 19:53

What’s the soup?

I’d probably go for the first option because I’ve had a few dreadful chicken casseroles in my time! (Not saying yours is, just everyone has different tastes).

Herdwick · 17/09/2020 19:54

Casserole if you are a good cook

Cheese and pate if you aren't.

Soup please. I’m fussy about chicken and wouldn’t want something too heavy for lunch

PickleThePenguin · 17/09/2020 19:55

Probably the casserole Smile

TheClitterati · 17/09/2020 19:55

If someone is going to cook me a meal (rare event) I'll eat anything Grin

Herdwick · 17/09/2020 19:55

Actually scratch that. Agree with BooFuckingHoo that most chicken casseroles are on the dry side with a weird taste because overcooked chicken has no taste.

Definitely the soup cheese pate and wine.

iklboo · 17/09/2020 19:56

Soup please. And that's a full baguette each right? Grin

Yesterdayforgotten · 17/09/2020 19:57

I would go for a hearty chicken and vegetable broth/stew chunky type soup with warm crusty buttered bread....yum

Itwasaquarterpast11 · 17/09/2020 20:01

Soup. Casserole is just carroty tasting brownness.

SecretNutellaFix · 17/09/2020 20:10

I'd prefer the soup for lunch.

Rustyspanners · 17/09/2020 20:18

Oh, definitely the soup, cheese, pate and baguette!

SandAndSea · 17/09/2020 20:18

Have you checked if there are any dietary needs?

ScrapThatThen · 17/09/2020 20:33

The first because I am vegetarian. But sounds like a great day, enjoy.

averythinline · 17/09/2020 20:58

At lunch probably the first even though soup and cheese not my fav .. just casserole bit heavy...at lunch prefer bits!

CrackersDontMatter · 18/09/2020 09:55

First option. Sounds delicious. I'd be disappointed with casserole.

violetbunny · 18/09/2020 10:21

First option definitely!

Ellmau · 18/09/2020 10:23

Depends on weather. Soup, cheese and pate if hot. Casserole if it's chilly outside, but with mashed potato not roast.

Sooverthemill · 18/09/2020 10:23

If it's lunch then soup and cheese etc. But if it's a Sunday then people may want more. I have soup for my lunch about 320 days of the year though

monkeyonthetable · 18/09/2020 10:24

For lunch I'd prefer home made soup, bread and cheese and cake. Sounds lovely.

BarbaraofSeville · 18/09/2020 10:42

First option, plus it's more varied. People can have hot or cold, light or heavy, depending on what they pick.

If there are any vegetarians coming, make the soup vegetarian, so everyone has a decent choice.

Bluesheep8 · 18/09/2020 10:52

Soup definitely. I don't like to eat a proper meal like casserole at lunchtime, I prefer something like that in the evening.

Bluntness100 · 18/09/2020 11:05

Neither to be honest they are quite heavy going for this time of year. I’m not a soup fan or chicken casserole.

I’d do something like a big dressed salad, warm focaccia with cheese and sun dried tomatoes, garlic roasted chicken thighs/breasts, new potatoes/baked potatoes and have folks help themselves.

yescheese · 18/09/2020 11:06

I'm veggie anyway but think the first sounds perfect for lunch Smile

Egghead68 · 18/09/2020 11:08

Soup. Have a nice time!
