McVitie's Digestive outrage

UnfinishedSymphon · 16/09/2020 15:31

Just fancied a biscuit with my coffee, open my pack of recently purchased digestives, took a bite and my first thought was "what fresh hell is this?", my second thought was to spit it out (the dog caught it).

I'm gutted, they are rank now, less sugar and they are thinner, harder and a lighter colour too. They also leave an artificial sweetener type aftertaste but I can't see that listed on the ingredients list.

THEY ARE NOT GOOD. Why can't they keep the original version along with the low sugar version (not that it states this on the packet) so adults can make their own choice whether to buy the sugar laden, crumbly circles of deliciousness?

Sad times

Sick. And cruel.

Can't comment on that product. But I miss you Cadbury.

Treats won't be treats anymore if we turn them all into "health" foods. I am sick of it too OP!

Don't get me started on chocolate!

I know right?! I've worked damn hard losing weight these last few years, really looking forward to my favourite biscuit for a quick dunking sesh and I get a mouthful of shit.

I may start a petition

We buy a lot of mcvities. I'm convinced the flavour is different - I assume based on what factory it comes from? Some are buttery and delicious. Some are weirdly sweet. It's very odd.

Also, during covid they have increased in price fro £1 to £1.20.

Persipan · 16/09/2020 16:07

I personally am outraged that they've started making a chocolate-orange-caramel digestive - a thing which should be fabulous - and have somehow created an oversweet, chemical monstrosity. IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN DARK CHOCOLATE, MCVITIES! (Shakes fist at the sky...)

Be grateful you didn't buy the Cherry Bakewell flavour. They were so utterly rank, not even the kids would eat them. First time I have ever binned a packet of biscuits!

movingonup20 · 16/09/2020 16:20

I buy Aldi own brand, they are better (and half the price)

MashedSweetSpud · 16/09/2020 16:20

They already ruined digestives.

The upside for me is I’m not dunking almost 200 calories a couple of times a day.

They've made a chocolate orange bourbon biscuit which sound interesting, but I agree, dark choc would have worked so much better with orange.

I'm quite glad to read this, I honestly thought it was me!! Where's the sugar? I had one last week and didn't even finish it. Also, although it was a new pack, it didn't have the same snap as usual.

UnfinishedSymphon · 16/09/2020 16:26

The caramel ones are an abomination too, not enough caramel to really taste it, and it's not lovely, smooth stretchy caramel either

twilightcafe · 16/09/2020 16:28

Those cherry bakewells tasted like chocolate-covered cough sweets. Bleugh.

DazzlingDee · 16/09/2020 16:29

Oh wow I can’t believe this ! I bought a packet at the weekend for a treat and they were horrible ! I thought I had a dodgy packet. Gutted. I can still taste their original flavour

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 16/09/2020 16:45

Is nothing sacred anymore?

Marisishidinginmyattic · 16/09/2020 16:58

It's so disappointing isn't it!

They've done something to curlywirlies now too. They've made them smaller so you get six in a pack instead of five (but the pack weight stayed the same) and I think they've nobbled the recipe at the same time.

TerribleCustomerCervix · 16/09/2020 17:23

Same for Lion bars which are now a shadow of their former delicious selves.

And lucozade. Can no longer be used for diabetics if I understand correctly?

And yet, there’s the rottenness that is Terry’s Chocolate Orange remaining unmolested while all the lovely things have been ruined.

I actually feel like my civil liberties have been infringed upon.

SionnachRua · 16/09/2020 17:25

Nooo Sad
When I saw your thread title I thought "man I'd love one of those, it's been too long!". What a damn shame.

AtLeastThreeDrinks · 16/09/2020 17:47

Us too @MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously, they're vile! And I say that from a household where biscuits disappear the minute they arrive. Those cherry bastards lurked for weeks until someone got sick of the sight of them (me).

TastelessBracelets · 16/09/2020 17:51

Oh no it isn't. Someone has been milking the sebum ducts of teenagers and adding the oil to chocolate oranges.

JovialNickname · 16/09/2020 17:51

Oh no! This has made me very sad. Weren't digestive biscuits originally some kind of health biscuit anyway? Why the need to mess with them Sad

Abraid2 · 16/09/2020 17:53

I just go for Ritter Sport and Tony's Chocoloney now. It's not worth the disappointment.

But the digestive thing is very worrying. Why make a bad year even worse?

Flaunch · 16/09/2020 17:57

Jammy Dodgers aren’t right either :(

HaudMaDug · 16/09/2020 17:58

Try Sainsburys own brand digestives they are the closest I've found to what McVities used to taste like and a fraction of the price too. (not sure what their chocolate ones taste like though.)
