McVitie's Digestive outrage

UnfinishedSymphon · 16/09/2020 15:31

Just fancied a biscuit with my coffee, open my pack of recently purchased digestives, took a bite and my first thought was "what fresh hell is this?", my second thought was to spit it out (the dog caught it).

I'm gutted, they are rank now, less sugar and they are thinner, harder and a lighter colour too. They also leave an artificial sweetener type aftertaste but I can't see that listed on the ingredients list.

THEY ARE NOT GOOD. Why can't they keep the original version along with the low sugar version (not that it states this on the packet) so adults can make their own choice whether to buy the sugar laden, crumbly circles of deliciousness?

Sad times

OP I feel for you! I thought it was just me that found them a disappointment. I remember the delicious taste and the crumbly, buttery texture. Now as you say they are thin and lacking in genuine sweetness. I had a Foxes ‘chunkie’ cookie today and it looked so good when I sat down to have it with a cup of coffee. But I felt the same disappointment, as it just wasn’t nice and left a horrid, synthetic taste in my mouth. So unfulfilling and a waste of calories. Mind you I’ve just looked the ingredients up and when you read through them it’s not surprising really!

agree with a PP aldis digestives are very nice and a much lower price than branded ones and asdas own brand the last time i had one passed the taste test

SunshineCake · 16/09/2020 18:42

Quite often own brand things have less crap in them so are worth a try.

I got some Hobnobs last week and they were awful Sad

missmouse101 · 16/09/2020 19:15

Agree, sadly. I did try the Hovis digestives and they were pretty nice!

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 16/09/2020 19:20

Yup, like everything else. There is no fucking joy left in life anymore.

ThePlantsitter · 16/09/2020 19:26

Maybe you should all get Coronavirus tests? Change of taste and all that?!

FlyingLoo · 16/09/2020 19:32

Sainsbury or Asda own brand all the way. Haven’t bought McVities chocolate digestives for years.

haba · 16/09/2020 19:46

They all taste like crap since they put palm oil in them. Only rich tea still taste the same (sunflower oil).

haba · 16/09/2020 19:47

At the risk of causing a national shortage, Sainsbury's own chocolate bars (dairy milk sized, so 200g) are £1 and no palm oil.

maverickallthetime · 16/09/2020 19:48

I had a Yorkie bar and it tasted of plastic! What a waste of calories

Oldbagface · 16/09/2020 19:54

Kit kats still taste good to me. The king of the biscuit.

PercyKirke · 16/09/2020 19:54

Thank God OP, I've thought the same but cannot get anyone to agree with me at home. When I first tried some I thought I'd bought "own brand" rubbish by mistake. Not only are the packs containing significantly few biscuits than they did a few years ago, those that are in there are RANK!

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 16/09/2020 19:58

If anyone wants hobnobs, get the Aldi oaties - they are lush!

RandomMess · 16/09/2020 20:25

@haba shhhhhh

I but their value dark chocolate, no palm oil!

JustOneMoreStep · 16/09/2020 20:58

I really hate this. As a diabetic I am probably more in tune with what my body actually needs, its a nightmare for our community when the blood sugar is low and you need a quick fix to tide you over(say you've been out longer than expected so dinner is running late). Its really dangerous when we think we are getting a quick sugar fix but its been changed to some chemical sweetener rubbish. Worryingly, I read an article in the diabetic clinic just before lockdown where they were wanting volunteers of people who had recently been diagnosed. There hypothesis was that the increase in artificial sweetners might be linked to a whole host of medical conditions from migraine to diabetes to IBS. Scary really.

rslsys · 16/09/2020 21:01

Aldi ones are superb!

NigellaAwesome · 16/09/2020 21:02

@JustOneMoreStep I must tell my DM who is diabetic. She relies on them to raise her sugars, and knows exactly how many she needs. If they have messed with the recipe then it will impact on her ability to balance her sugars.

I don't know.I bought one a few months ago and I could finish it, it was so bad. It went in the bin. I was shocked at my own act.

EvilPea · 16/09/2020 21:37

Won’t someone think of the cheesecakes.

eatsleepread · 16/09/2020 21:49

Has anyone had a Gold Bar recently? I mean, they're still lovely, but completely bloody tiny!

ItsAlwaysSunnyOnMN · 16/09/2020 22:31

Frazzles now have no artificial flavourings Hmm If I wanted something that didn’t have artificial flavourings I wouldn’t buy a packet of Frazzles. They just aren’t as smokey But the additives back in for that extra smokey delicious flavour

And Jammy Dodges the biscuit often doughy and the jam isn’t as sticky

SomethingOnce · 16/09/2020 23:44

Because some people can’t stop themselves from eating their own bodyweight in biccies at a single sitting and mainlining fizzy shit, we are punished collectively with the sugar tax and now this fucking around with the digestives.

I literally just got in from the late shop, with my milk choc digestives, made a cuppa and sat down to read Chat. And this!
