How much do you pay for hygienist?

Bingowin · 14/09/2020 14:57

My hygienist has put their prices up from £52 to £62. Seems a bit steep to me?

I'm in south east London. Just wondering if I can shop around.... do I need to be registered? I believe my hygienist is private so I wouldn't have thought it would be an issue?

How much are others paying?

Post COVID price is £72
Outside London

EsmereldaMargaretNoteSpelling · 14/09/2020 15:07

Think mine is around £60/£65 not sure off the top of my head, plus a £10 PPE surcharge. Home counties.

Mrsjayy · 14/09/2020 15:08

£45 Central Scotland I would expect it to go up during covid not that I've been.

thedaywewillremeber · 14/09/2020 15:10

£45 before this situation assuming more now.

thedaywewillremeber · 14/09/2020 15:11

I’m in the south east.

jessstan2 · 14/09/2020 15:12

I am also in SE London and think your hygienist fee is quite reasonable.

Panicmode1 · 14/09/2020 15:15

I'm in SE and it was £55 before lockdown. I'm going next week and imagine it will be more to cover CV costs...

EmbarrassedUser · 14/09/2020 15:49

@Bingowin £35 per visit. If he can do the whole mouth in one visit then he will. I have gum disease so I sometimes have to have two visits so £70. This is South West.

Bingowin · 14/09/2020 16:56

Sounds about right then after all!

My dentist does this for me himself (full scale and polish, but has had to go back to manual methods as the ultrasonic scaler generates aerosols - a no no with Covid!) every three months along with a full check up. Total price for check up and hygiene combined is £45. (Scotland.)

vanillandhoney · 14/09/2020 17:05

£45. Cumbria.

TheBitterBoy · 14/09/2020 17:07

Mine was £45 pre covid, now £62 to account for longer appointment time as they have to do everything manually. I'm near Reading.

bendmeoverbackwards · 14/09/2020 17:12

£50 London suburbs. I don't go much even before Covid. Don't mind the cleaning but can't stand the patronising lecture with the teeth model. I'm 48 years old FFS, I'm not changing the way I clean my teeth!

You can buy the equipment and do it at home anyway. Hygienists are a rip off.

MarcelineMissouri · 14/09/2020 17:13

Mine was £40, has now gone up to £55. Midlands.

bendmeoverbackwards · 14/09/2020 17:14

I have this, it's brilliant

GoneFishingAgain · 14/09/2020 17:16

£15 I think, or less. Scotland, NHS.

catlovingdoctor · 14/09/2020 17:17

@bendmeoverbackwards- that's a very irresponsible and ill-informed thing to say. Dental instruments like scalers can cause damage to both hard and soft tissue in the mouth if used unsafely by someone who is not professionally trained.

The "patronising" routine is part of their role to help prevent oral disease. They're trying to help you. What would be the point if they didn't ? The professional cleaning they do is secondary to good hygiene performed daily at home.

bendmeoverbackwards · 14/09/2020 17:20

Well maybe I'm lucky and have good teeth and a good cleaning and flossing routine.

WeirdlyOdd · 14/09/2020 17:28

£65 in the south, pre-Covid. God knows now, all my appointments have been cancelled.

ZarasHouse · 14/09/2020 17:33

£50, probably more now

ZarasHouse · 14/09/2020 17:33

Also not in London

ItchyScratch · 14/09/2020 17:34

North England-
£48 for 20 minutes

They have probably increased this since Covid.

Frownette · 14/09/2020 17:37

£65

Bickles · 14/09/2020 17:37

Ours is £53 for 40 minutes. It hasn’t gone up since Covid but at the moment it’s hand scaling only.
In North Yorkshire so £62 ok for London I think.

onemouseplace · 14/09/2020 17:38

Mine's gone up to £93 post-covid. I think it was £60-something before.
