Help settle an argument, please!
What’s the liquid inside a coconut called?

Flesh = white stuff inside brown shell. Coconut water is clear liquid.

FredaFrogspawn · 13/09/2020 21:25

Coconut milk is made of the flesh I think.

Hazelmazel · 13/09/2020 21:26

The liquid inside is coconut water. Coconut milk is made from the flesh

icelollycraving · 13/09/2020 21:26

Coconut water

Megan2018 · 13/09/2020 21:27

Coconut water and coconut “meat”. Milk is made from the meat. Their’s loads of recipes online.
I’m horribly allergic to it all-vile stuff!

Maskedcrusader · 13/09/2020 21:28

Coconut water

desperatetostaypositive · 13/09/2020 21:28

Coconut milk

justanotherneighinparadise · 13/09/2020 21:28

Coconut water. The milk comes from the flesh combined with the water.

dementedpixie · 13/09/2020 21:28

Coconut water. You use the flesh to make coconut milk

ODFOx · 13/09/2020 21:29

It used to be called the milk.

Since coconut milk from soaked squeezed flesh has become popular the clear liquid is now called coconut water ( although it does not contain water) and the water with coconut flesh flavour in in called the milk because it's white.
Genius marketing overall!

OwlBasket · 13/09/2020 21:29

Coconut water

HoneysuckIejasmine · 13/09/2020 21:29

Water, as per pp.

FredaFrogspawn · 13/09/2020 21:29

We called it water in the 1960s.

YES!!! This is what I tried to tell my DH! There was a time when the liquid inside a coconut was called the milk, but since marketing the bottled stuff, it has changed!

blindmansbluff · 13/09/2020 21:33

Agreed, when I was a kid it was always called the milk.

Bufferingkisses · 13/09/2020 21:35

It definitely used to be referred to as coconut milk. However it is definitely referred to as coconut water now. Annoyingly. I dislike altering things just to sell something 😒

CocoBryceDidAcidWithMe · 13/09/2020 21:35

It's called water or milk Smile

Biancadelrioisback · 13/09/2020 21:37

I think technically the terms are the shell, the white stuff and the wet stuff.

NotExactlyMrsCurrentAffairs · 13/09/2020 21:43

Definitely used to be called milk!

Newjez · 13/09/2020 22:31

Who got to decide to change it's name?

The coconut police???

HoneysuckIejasmine · 13/09/2020 22:33

I was told it was called "water" in Thailand 29 years ago. I don't think it's a rebrand based on relatively recent marketing.

HoneysuckIejasmine · 13/09/2020 22:34

20 sorry not 29

Katinski · 13/09/2020 22:41

and I agree with the poster above^ that the flesh is called the meat.
Why? Dunno, it just is.Grin

Obviouspretzel · 13/09/2020 23:53

If the coconut water was called the milk though, what was the coconut milk called ? Are you saying that didn't exist ?

Obviouspretzel · 13/09/2020 23:54

And to the poster who said it doesn't contain water, how can it not contain water ? Surely any juice from a fruit contains water ?
