I cannot sleep, i have this itchy rash which is all over me basically. I just want to tear my skin off :( It's spread from a couple of intensely itchy bumps on my hands this morning to just about everywhere by bed time tonight. I don't know what to do with myself. I'm almost in tears with it.

For info: I had a sore throat 2 days ago which is better now, but am left with a really snotty nose. No cough (!) No temp. No aches or pains.

Recently been taking nitrofurantoin antibiotics for cystitis. Have taken 10 out of the 14. Had it before with no probs. Did not take tonights one.

Contact your GP. I developed an allergy to an antibiotic halfway through a course and it was very much like what you're describing. There are a couple other things they can give you for the cystitis that should work.

Laiste · 12/09/2020 02:27

Should describe it!

A mixture of red or white bumps/spots. White bumps on red skin or red bumps on white skin depending where they are Confused

Arms, buttocks, boobs, inside leg, and itchy around eyes but no spots on face. Palms of hands and between fingers. Back of my head is really itchy too.

I have pressed a glass - you can still see the red bumps but only just. They're not dark spots like The Google Images ...

That's a shame, can you take some piriton just now to maybe ease the itching?!

Thanks HistoriaTrixie. Cystitis cleared up within a couple of days of taking the anti Bs. I'm just not an allergic type person. This is so odd.

Got no antihistamin (sp?) in the house. Nothing near me is open 24 hours any more.

I'm going to be so tired tomorrow. Everyone else is asleep and i cannot bare this itch :(

TheBabyAteMyBrain · 12/09/2020 02:37

Try a bicarb bath to help with the itch and take some antihistamine of you have any. Tbh it almost sounds like hand, foot and mouth. When my son had it, it was insanely itchy for him, but apparently its not common for it to itch.

Oh! Poxclin is a miracle in a can for itchy rashes/skin. Not helpful now I know but you might be able to get some or have it primed for tomorrow.

Sparklfairy · 12/09/2020 02:38

Oh god how awful. A few months back I would get horrendous itching after having a bath and washing my hair. I'm pretty sure it was the shampoo I was using, but I still remember the absolute despair of not being able to sleep and not being able to escape the itching!

If you don't have antihistimines, the only thing I can think of is a cool ish shower or bath, but that would be only temporary relief until you got out again Sad Sorry OP

Londonsuffolkmummy · 12/09/2020 02:41

Sounds like dermatitis

Susannahmoody · 12/09/2020 02:43

Do you have any hydrocortisone? Could help.

Do you have mouth ulcers?

Laiste · 12/09/2020 02:44

Thank you all.

One of my DDs had hand foot and mouth when she was little. And then i got 'slap cheek', which gave me weirdly painful joints. This was a long time ago ... it's all related to the chicken pox virus isn't it?

Is it a coincidence DD (yr 2) has just gone back and i've got this?

Sparklfairy i had a cool shower before i got into bed (what feels like hours and hours ago - 10pm!) I thought it would help - no

Thank god there's always someone up on MN! It's good to have something to take my mind off it :)

You dont have any kids piriton in maybe?

Does it feel hot to touch?

A cool bath might help, or cool flannels.

Just curious if this is your problem

Londonsuffolkmummy i've been googling and closest i can see is 'hives', but it seems to be a catch all sort of phrase.

Susannahmoody no none of that in the house. I had a good chuck out of our old medicines a couple of weeks ago. Threw a tatty packet of piriton out Hmm WHY??

OP posts:
Laiste · 12/09/2020 02:47

One mouth ulcer.

OP posts:
Laiste · 12/09/2020 02:49

Yes very hot to the touch.

Those photos look very alarming and my rash feels like it would look like that, iykwim?, but it's more like a red mottling with white raised bumps or little red ones.

OP posts:
Laiste · 12/09/2020 02:50

It looks a lot like heat rash but dear god - this isn't heat rash, lol.

Not as bad as yours, but I had a rash on my arms the other week, so used calamine lotion to lessen the itchiness. I think mine was a heat rash when it was hot weather.

Laiste · 12/09/2020 03:06

And this

God help me i'm so bloody itchy! What is it?
OP posts:
Laiste · 12/09/2020 03:09

If i had calamine lotion would be good.

But i havent got any.

sigh. I'm crap aren't it!

Our nearest town is 20 mins drive away and i was going to get in the car and go before starting this thread. But the '24 hour' chemist there shuts at 11pm.

Thank you for everyone's responses. I wish i had a better stocked medicine cabinet!

OP posts:
Turtletotem · 12/09/2020 03:17

I'd think it's an allergy to the antibiotics, i developed an allergy to penicillin in my 20s, you'll need antihistamines but talk to the doctor because they'll want to put it on your notes. A 24hr garage might have hay fever tablets?

AlCalavicci · 12/09/2020 03:19

That looks extremely irritating..

Do you have any savlon or even sudcream, just try a bit on a small patch of skin 1st

Turtletotem · 12/09/2020 03:21

Do you have bicarbonate of soda? That could help?

lborgia · 12/09/2020 03:21

That is a pretty strong reaction, and yes, furadantin can do that, from memory. Genius idea about going to a decent petrol station, although, honestly, you're not going to get any sleep, so I'd be driving wherever to get to a late night pharmacist in your shoes!

lborgia · 12/09/2020 03:24

... and actually, given that it's so dramatic, I'd be going to ooh, or similar, but I know things are difficult in UK in that regard. He they'd be shoveling steroids, to calm it all down I reckon.

Blondie1984 · 12/09/2020 03:24

It could be shingles

DangerMouse17 · 12/09/2020 03:30

Def looks like hives/urticaria to me. You need the liquid piriton sharpish! Poor you OP. I've been there and know what it's like, I sympathise Flowers
