I cannot sleep, i have this itchy rash which is all over me basically. I just want to tear my skin off :( It's spread from a couple of intensely itchy bumps on my hands this morning to just about everywhere by bed time tonight. I don't know what to do with myself. I'm almost in tears with it.

For info: I had a sore throat 2 days ago which is better now, but am left with a really snotty nose. No cough (!) No temp. No aches or pains.

Recently been taking nitrofurantoin antibiotics for cystitis. Have taken 10 out of the 14. Had it before with no probs. Did not take tonights one.
Have you had a Covid test? Rashes can be a symptom, and given that you have a sore throat and a cough it could be a possibility covid.joinzoe.com/post/skin-rash-covid
this is why my GP sent me for a COVID test I think (when I had the same rash) Mine was negative, but I had had the rash for about 8 days by then so who knows!

Call 111 and ask a doctor to phone you. In your shoes I would want to ask about stopping the Medication.

For a moment I thought scabies but it wouldn't spread that quick and anyway the photos aren't right.

Like PPs have said I think its hives. DD had them a while ago. We practically bathed her in antihistimine cream and gave her a good dose of piriton and it was gone by morning.

We never did find out what caused it Confused

I'm hesitant to ask for a covid test. I really don't think that's what it is. The sore throat and snot was doing the rounds last week in DDsnew class back (yr2) and i think i just had that. Sore throat is long - cough ... well it's when the snottiness gets down your throat.

I can hear you all saying you don't know so get a test!

Well i rubbed that cream all over at ... just after 9 wasnt it. And the piriton at the same time. Tobe honest it wasn't till about 10.30 that i can say the itching improved. I had a couple of ibruprophen whilewaiting in the car for DD to come out of ballet (googled it and it's ok) and now i feel A LOT better actually. You can still see the raised bits where the rash was but it's paler now.

Dreading tonight though. Next piriton is at 1, and then 5, and i can do one more lot or cream today.

I want to thank you all again for taking the time out to post x

glad you're feeling better OP. Hoping it continues. I know what you meant about COVID test. I wasnt going to get one but my GP advised it and at the time they were running increased testing in my area asking everyone with or without symptoms to get tested anyway.

Laiste · 12/09/2020 15:36

@mosscarpet yeah i have a feeling that my GP will tell me to get a test when i ring on Monday. I will ring to let them know what's gone on so they can put it on my records. I only have to have ABs once or twice a year for cystitis. Still don't know if it was allergic reaction to the ABs or the quite common 'post viral infection'.

Took the 1 pm piriton. Feeling ok. Didn't want to wait till the itching returned before taking another dose. I'm finding it's broken the itch scratch itch cycle completely which was driving me crazy. Every now and again i feel an itchy sting somewhere and i go to scratch and think ''No!''. Will take the 5 pm one, and do the cream again before bed.

I'll update tomorrow in case anyone reading now or in the future finds it useful. I was googling old mumsnet threads about rashes at 3am this morning! Honestly found them more help than the NHS medical pages to be honest.
