Kid’s party food in mid 1990s onwards - what have a missed!

So we are looking to do a typical late 1990s/early 2000s “kids party buffet” to celebrate adult DC’s birthdays (think 24 years+)

This is their ask not me being weird!

Obviously we did shopping and catering then but blowed if I can remember beyond obvious what was in the menu - so what have I missed (obviously generic here!)?

Colin the Caterpillar cake (Obvs)
Sandwiches - egg, ham, chicken, cheese
Pineapple on sticks (why?)
Sausage rolls
Salad (to look good)
Crisps/tortillas
Hummus, dips and olives (exotic at time!)
Crisps - no idea what they had (pombears?)

Any other nostalgic suggestions?

It was always cubes of cheese with the pineapple on sticks. Not just pineapple by itself!

I don't think there was salad. Crisps would just be your bog standard Asda multipack of flavours emptied into bowls. Maybe Walkers if you were really posh. Probably just plain, salt and vinegar and cheese and onion.

Hula hoops though!! To put on your fingers. And Skips. OK maybe these are more exciting than Walkers.

Jelly in a mould. Blancmange. Rice crispie cakes.

Cocktail sausages defo. Either the purchased cold ones, or a load cooked in the oven and left to go cold before the party.

Cold pizza slices.

Maybe I'm too early 90s in period.... possibly by the 2000s we wanted salad, I can't remember :o

BertieBotts · 11/09/2020 22:16

You'll have to get giant hula hoops so giant adult DC can fit them on their fingers :)

Albern · 11/09/2020 22:16

BertieBotts · 11/09/2020 22:17

Also, whole grapes. Or had the MN obsession with cut grapes already happened by then?

TweetUsOnFacebook · 11/09/2020 22:17

Pom Bears

SingingWaffleDoggy · 11/09/2020 22:17

Pink wafers, but we’ve never stopped having them at parties!

Xmasbaby11 · 11/09/2020 22:18

Isn't this what kids eat now? My dc are little and this is standard party food, apart from cheese and pineapple on sticks. I don't think party food has moved on!

Polkasquare · 11/09/2020 22:18

Chicken drumsticks
Breadsticks
Salt and vinegar chipsticks

ArchbishopOfBanterbury · 11/09/2020 22:20

Quiche, cold pizza, mini scotch eggs.

Those little cheesy cracker biscuit shapes - in hearts and diamonds and spades. What were they called? Cheese savories... perhaps?

Tiny pretzel shapes too.

Invisimamma · 11/09/2020 22:21

I was a 90s kid. Umbongo cartons were the absolute epitome of posh kids party food.

Champagneforeveryone · 11/09/2020 22:25

A red jelly rabbit (from a special mould) on a bed of mushed up green jelly grass.
I remember thinking it was the most sophisticated thing I had ever seen Grin
