Kid’s party food in mid 1990s onwards - what have a missed!

So we are looking to do a typical late 1990s/early 2000s “kids party buffet” to celebrate adult DC’s birthdays (think 24 years+)

This is their ask not me being weird!

Obviously we did shopping and catering then but blowed if I can remember beyond obvious what was in the menu - so what have I missed (obviously generic here!)?

Colin the Caterpillar cake (Obvs)
Sandwiches - egg, ham, chicken, cheese
Pineapple on sticks (why?)
Sausage rolls
Salad (to look good)
Crisps/tortillas
Hummus, dips and olives (exotic at time!)
Crisps - no idea what they had (pombears?)

Any other nostalgic suggestions?

Marshmallow Top Hats! A classic from the back of the cooking chocolate packet... Basically just sugar, though 😂

Candy stick
Fake cigarettes. We used to have these a lot! The choc was delicious, the paper too!

Capri sun
Generic luminous squash
Panda or Barrs fizzy pop

Tuna sandwiches
Ham and cheese sandwiches
Egg and tomato sandwiches (DM's favourite!)

Pink wafers
Cadbury finger biscuits
Party rings
Iced gems

Chipsticks
Quavers or Wotsits

Sausage rolls
Cut up hot dogs, cheese cube & pineapple on cocktails sticks, stabbed into half a grapefruit wrapped in tin foil (the only time my DM ever bought grapefruit!)

Jam tarts
Butterfly cakes
Danish cookies (in the blue tin)
Krispy cakes

Born in 86, so a fully fledged 90's party kid and my DM always did the full buffet herself Grin

Sorry OP I realised I misread your OP - my list would have been late 80s/early 90s. By the late 90s I would have been going to parties where the ‘catering’ mostly involved Malibu, Bacardi and Benson and Hedges... that’s a whole other thread Grin

Violetroselily · 11/09/2020 23:18

I am a 90s child. Things I remember from parties (as well as most things mentioned already in the thread)

Tip top (?) drink cartons
Strawberry jelly and ice cream
Iced gems
Cold pizza slices
Chocolate fingers
Cartoonies
Choc dips

Jam sandwiches.

Angel Delight, with a piece of fruit on the top. I think Dream Topping may have featured too!

CoconutLassi · 11/09/2020 23:25

Rainbow drops and panda pops

BornInAThunderstorm · 11/09/2020 23:27

Just joining to say how jealous I am of this nostalgic feast. I remember so many 90s birthday parties with the cheese and pineapple sticks, massive bowl of jelly and of course the party rings!

abitoflight · 11/09/2020 23:34

I got a caterer - god knows what I was thinking Hmm and got mini Thai bites for that DP's at pick up and drop off. My friend around the same time had mummy lemonade in 2 litre bottles which was G&T

CremeEggThief · 11/09/2020 23:43

Where's the egg mayo sandwiches and chocolate cornflake/ rice krispy 'cakes'? Grin

Lyricallie · 11/09/2020 23:44

Marshmallow top hats. Marshmallows dipped in chocolate with a smartie on top. Also rice crispy cakes!

Graffitiqueen · 11/09/2020 23:46

Cheese, pineapple and pickled onion on cocktail sticks is my favourite party food ever!

Also marshmallow top hats.

Palavah · 11/09/2020 23:47

By that time I think we'd have been on pizzas/mini pizzas, dips and carrot/cucumber sticks.
Twiglets
Popcorn
Viennetta

Earlier:
Swimming pool cake (sponge topped with jelly and surrounded by chocolate fingers, with playmobil swimmers

MissPoldark · 11/09/2020 23:56

Vol au vents ?

HilaryBriss · 12/09/2020 01:02

No kids party round my way would ever have featured hummus, dips or olives!

Spanielmadness · 12/09/2020 01:15

Wagon wheels and the lollies that are also whistles in the party bag. They had a stick you could move up and down to create different sounds while blowing sticky spit from the bottom of the slowly disintegrating lolly.

thefishthatcouldwish · 12/09/2020 01:44

Around these parts it had to be pineapple and cheese on a stick.

Tea cakes

Jelly and ice cream

user32723 · 12/09/2020 01:56

This is still kids party food. These days you usually get a token fruit platter too, but otherwise the same.

I haven't seen anyone say Party Rings though, and those are essential.

Ilovesausages · 12/09/2020 02:45

I’m feeling very nostalgic! And hungry!
