There was a person whose surname was Oddie and their first name began with an N. I really wish I was making this up (80s).

A supply teacher asked us to put our initial and surname on the work we had done, then proceeded to bollock the class for pissing around with names and said who wrote Noddie? He actually checked the register as he didn't believe a parent would call their child N Oddie.

I worked with a Crank and a Crump! Also a woman whose first name was Gay.

Toddlerteaplease · 08/09/2020 12:27

I quite fancy changing mine to Garrideb.

Ivgotthis · 08/09/2020 12:30

Met a Mr Meshitter once.

Also, a few years ago worked with a Dr Shipman who was in gerontology at the time, unsurprisingly he would introduce himself as "Dr Mike" to his patients

TeaSoakedDisasterMagnet · 08/09/2020 12:36

I feel these could be the new series of 'Mr Men' characters!

I also had a teacher called Mr. Pratt.

I've met a Bitchiner

Beamur · 08/09/2020 12:41

Some of these names are brilliant.
I know a Cakebread too. Thought they were joking...
Jelley (love this one)
My Mum's maiden name was very unusual. I suspect a spelling mistake a couple of generations ago as it's hugely similar to a more conventional name (but still uncommon)

Beamur · 08/09/2020 12:42

I had a dentist once called Dr Paine 😲

SisyphusDad · 08/09/2020 12:45

Pine Coffin.

I didn't really believe it when I saw it in the phone directory of the large company where I was contracting but not long afterwards I saw a quote in the Evening Standard attributed to that name.

I suppose it could still have been a joke but if so, it was a a good and very elaborate one.

SisyphusDad · 08/09/2020 12:47

Aaaaaand I've just scrolled up from my post on the last page and seen that others got there ahead of me Blush.

Lovely girl and thankfully had good sense of humour about it, you'd have to wouldn't you ?

HelloPonDiOtherSide · 08/09/2020 13:07

I once had a boyfriend who's name was Going.

A teacher called Mrs Pratt.

A neighbour called Dickson.

Someone in my class called Mycock and he was told off by a supply teacher when we wrote our names on a sheet for them. There was a few Ben Dover and similar on the list.

Old boss and a separate friend of a friend were called Hoare. One said Ho-err, the other just went for it.

Lovelady - the dad really lives up to his name 😜

Chipchase

LivingForPinkGin · 08/09/2020 13:21

A friend of mines surname is Floater.

CountFosco · 08/09/2020 13:22

@Topseyt

I once knew of someone with the surname Gotobed too.

I am amazed that they kept the name, to be honest. I would find it embarrassing and awful.

Why would you change it? Reminds me of 'Carrie's War'. Love all these rare names. Much more interesting than 'Smith'. Use to know a Clutterbuck which is similatly traditional.

I'll add myself to the list of people who know a Snowball. I once worked with a woman with the surname Phoenix which I thought was fabulous.

Soubriquet · 08/09/2020 13:25

I actually know a Gotobed too!

She married into the name!

I've taught so many kids with amazing names, but can't remember them all. Umar Butt and Deep Tank were particularly memorable though.
