What to do in St Ives?

We’ve got a week in St Ives booked in a few weeks, no DC and also no car. Any suggestions for things to do, restaurants etc?

Got the Tate on the list and are keen to do some walking if anyone knows good routes.

Google SW coastal path or NT walks and you will get lots of ideas.

As well as booking ahead for Tate St Ives, make sure you book ahead to go to Barbara Hepworth garden - Really wonderful. Particularly limited ticket numbers so do need to be organised!

Lots of little galleries dotted round the town

Lovely beaches, so hope you get some good weather and can sit out!
Good for swimming and surfing.
Porthmeor Beach Services - cafe restaurant on the beach is a good spot.
Had a really nice meal in the Cornish Deli

There is an escape room in St Ives - always good entertainment. If you haven’t ever tried one, I would recommend you have a go!

Catch the St Ives branchline to Penzance (you change at St Erth, but that will be obvious as it's the end of the branchline). Walk from Penzance to Marazion and St Michael's Mount and/or visit Jubilee Lido in Penzance.

Porthgwidden beach is lovely and has a fabulous cafe.

The great thing about St Ives is no matter which way the wind is blowing, one of the beaches will be sheltered,

I can’t recommend anything else as it’s too long since i’ve been there.

Do you like afternoon tea? I mean who doesn't like tea and cake!?

A couple of years ago we found an incredible little tea room in St Ives done out like your Grandma's back room. It was brilliant and like stepping back in time. Sorry I don't know what it was called!

The Leach Pottery is also worth seeing. And walk along the coastal path to Zennor to see the Zennor mermaid in the church and have a drink in the Tinners Arms. I’ve had beautiful food at the Gurnard’s Head near Zennor — take the bus from St Ives. Boat trip to Godrevy Lighthouse. Blas Burgers is good for something casual.

Watch out for bags of cats.

Take the train one stop along to Carbis Bay. It is unbelievably beautiful: the water looks like the Caribbean. Just be ready for a steep walk down from the station, and a steep walk back up again! Totally worth it, though.

Spend hours looking for somewhere to park. That's what we seemed to do most.

Don't go to Penzance. It's not great. St ives is wonderful. I took the train from St Earth and was amazed by the beaches. Didn't realise we had such beautiful beaches in the uk!

great advice I received from a local in St Ives after DD was attacked by seagulls while eating a pastie on the pier:

"You can't eat a pastie on the pier. If you want to eat outside in this town you must go into a small alley and face the wall!"
