Tell me about your episodes of road rage after the witch I just encountered has left me fuming.

In my 18 years of driving I’ve maybe had about 8 episodes of road rage but today’s topped them all and made me so angry.
I feel like I need to type it out and read others examples to calm down.

I was in a busy car park (probably the scene of most road rages!) awaiting to park in a spot.
The woman in front stopped dead and did nothing. I wondered why.
I decided to reverse to see if she was wanting to back into a space next to us.
She did. And as she came level with my window she shouted “If you would fucking move you stupid cunt”

Well. She ignited my fire within and my rage boiled over. I couldn’t believe the way she spoke to me when I had done nothing wrong (no way I could have known her intention as she didn’t indicate etc)

I got out of my car and said EXCUSE ME! How dare you speak to me like that when I’ve done nothing wrong

She was about 25 years older than me and looked like a real life witch. She said “you stupid fucking cunt learn to drive”

Even though I do swear I chose to be the bigger person and use words rather than swearing and I said “how was I supposed to know your plans and how did that warrant a load of abuse, you horrible rude woman”

I walked away and she shouted cunt.

And I couldn’t let her have that as the last word so I said “you are lucky my kid is in the car as I would drag you out of that car and show you who is a cunt”
And I drove off.

Why do arseholes like this exist.

Tell me your examples?

I have never had a road rage episode but I do mumble under my breath at people. I can't think of anything worse than getting out of my car and going mental at a stranger like that.

I live on a busy road and during lockdown i saw two episodes of road rage. One the people involved got out of their cars and were running round throwing things at each other. (Don't think it hit them) All the traffic had to stop and wait for them. Once dd and i were coming back from a walk and we saw two men who'd come to blows. One parked at the side of the road. One of them picked up a wheelie bin as if he was going to throw it at the other but didn't. One drove off. Not sure where the other was parked.
After lockdown had eased i was in traffic and the lorry behind me hooted at someone to who was parked and waiting to pull out as a signal to let them pull out i assume. The parked man got out of the car and started shouting at the lorry driver.
All very strange. It seems like it's a new fashion round here to get out of the car and shout or pretend to throw things. No actual damage is done, just aggression

What would you have done after being called a stupid cunt for doing absolutely nothing wrong?

Wouldn't have got out of the car and started mouthing off to someone who clearly has a short fuse and then put myself at risk of assault and/or looking like a twat.
I just can't see myself behaving like that and definitely not in front of my children.
I would have just thought they were a nutter and laughed to myself in the car.
I just cba to get worked up about someone else's issues. Yes the person was in the wrong, with their driving and their attitude but I would have let it go.

I'd have just given a rolled eye look.

I wouldn't care at all that someone thinks I'm a cunt because they cannot indicate!

I’ve been driving 23 years and never done anything remotely like you’ve just done - despite the other woman being incredibly rude you didn’t come off too well yourself. You had your kid in the car too so you set a terrible example by reacting in that manner.

Not my episode, but one I witnessed. Sat at traffic lights near the Etihad Stadium by the big Asda. Proper commotion in the left hand lane. Two blokes in a big black car gesturing and shouting to a bloke behind in a small white van. Who proceeded to scream back at them.

Man in the van then started to ram his van into the black car. He reversed back and then screeched forward and mounted the pavement to try and get level with them.

Lights turn green and they both turn off. And I didn't get to see the end of the story :(

You both come across like arseholes 🤷.

It's just pouring fuel on the fire to threaten to drag them out of the car, it's just escalating an already ridiculous situation.

saying you’d drag her out of the car and also using vile words, in front of your children, doesn’t make you the bigger person. you stooped to her level, you’re just as bad as her.

You've had eight episodes of road rage? To be honest, you need to consider anger management counselling. Very little that happens on the road is worth getting your blood pressure up for.

I and my now exh were the cause of a loud argument over a carparking space........ exh decided to take a parking space that someone else was waiting for, yes he is still an arsehole! Obviously older lady waiting was not happy and tried using her car to show displeasure by revving it loudly and edging very close to the side of the car that my 4 week old dc1 was also on. We got out i picked up ds,ex waltzed off to pay and instead of voicing her disgust at my ex she picked on me, well that wasn't a wise move, I was sleep deprived and had found out the day before that ds was deaf, she was also speaking to me as if I was 5. I saw red and told her to fuck off very loudly plus some extra very rude words, her reply was a very sarcastic mind you dont wake the baby with all your shouting, my parting words were he's deaf you stupid fucking bitch. Bloke in the car behind wound his window down and put his 2pence worth in and he got told to fuck off too, not my finest hour. I got home and burst into tears telling my sister how unbelievably rude I had been esp as it was all exh's fault, I was mortified, my sister was lovely and said don't worry when dniece was newborn I lost my shit in sainsbury with a dented tin of baked beans.

You didn't exactly come out of that incident with your dignity intact OP.

I'm shocked at the number of road rage incidents you say you've been involved in. I've been driving literally twice as long as you and it's never happened to me. Not even once.

it’s just words. as the old rhyme goes, they can’t hurt you. people can. the murder of stephen cameron shows what can result from road rage. i wouldn’t ever retaliate - and especially not with my children in the car. even if they were asleep 🙄 is it worth risking being attacked for the sake of someone calling you a name?

I’d have probably done the same as you, OP. I don’t drive, so my interactions like this are more often with cyclists coming round blind corners on the pavement or ignoring red lights and pedestrian crossings. And yes, I swear at them.

We had a road rage incident the other day though; coming down one of London’s busiest roads, a Porsche driver tried to cut in. DH had driven 4 hours that day and just wanted to get home; he had right of way and didn’t let the guy in. He ended up right behind us but took major exception. Red light comes up, the guy gets out of his car and starts banging on DH’s window demanding a fight! The guy was literally half his size, but shouting about how big his muscles were DH just blew him a kiss.

To be fair OP I can understand to a degree where you're coming from - her intentions weren't clear, you moved to help and she acts like that!

I hate confrontation of any sort and I think being spoken to like that in public is quite a shock, I know my blood pressure would go mad, I'd get flushed and sweaty and my adrenaline would be going mental because if I'm honest? I'd be a bit frightened about how things could escalate.

But I think even this aside you would have come off better not to have responded with the same gutter behaviour and, especially with your kids there, it would have been safer.

The thing with twats like her is, most of the time if called out on their twatishness, they will still believe you're in the wrong and will walk away vindicated in their actions.

sorry - kid. Who I know you say was asleep but that would have been scary for her had she woken at that moment.

I had an incident a few weeks ago where this idiot was speeding past me 2weaving in and out of traffic, you know the type who just can't wait second. Anyway this was on the road where my son witnessed his friend mown down by a speeding driver doing 73mph in a 4omph zone a couple of years ago and I saw red. When I passed him I gave him a good beeping. At the next set of traffic lights he was in front of me and the lights were on red and he actually got and came across to my car window aggressively asking why i had beeped him so i saw red and let rip about my son's friend being killed. he didn't say anything just walked away. People never think about what the consequences of their actions can be, i hate speeding motorists, all that risk for getting somewhere five minutes quicker.
