We hear the steelworks siren every Tuesday at 10am. It's tested at that time. If I heard it any other time I'd probably be getting ready to be evacuated from my house. I can hear trains depending on conditions that day. Then there's the usual cars, passers by etc.

mumofthreewhatsfortea · 06/09/2020 18:04

Dogs over the back , neighbours listening to music in their garden , waterfall in neighbours garden , sirens occasionally on the main road two roads back from our house , helicopters seems to be a flight path above us .

crosser62 · 06/09/2020 18:06

Birds, an occasional owl and....donkeys braying REALLY REALLY bloody loudly!

0blio · 06/09/2020 18:09

@PhylisPrice

The man across the road banging in his garage as he's rebuilding a mini, pain in the arse at times but he is a lovely bloke so he's excused!
Yes, I find neighbour noise is far more tolerable when you know and like the people!

I used to hear the gentle sound of cows mooing. Now it's the noise of new house building on the fields. And dogs, what sounds like a huge number of dogs endlessly barking.

Seagulls, garden birds, owls at night (sometimes very loud!). A dog barking, children playing outside. Ice cream van in summer. Neighbours walking past talking. Rain (very often). The occasional muffled crash from the quarry if the wind is blowing in the right direction. Lawnmowers. A car coming in or out of our road, but no background traffic noise.

At the moment I can't really hear anything, even though the window is open.

Jolonglegs · 06/09/2020 18:12

I like the tawny owls at night twitting away

SqidgeBum · 06/09/2020 18:13

The usual of cars and the odd motorbike but not much as I live on a cul de sac.
Birdsong, the odd bbq gathering in the summer, my neighbour playing with his 4 year old in their garden.
However, I also get my poor other neighbour shouting for her husband every 5 minutes (she has dementia), along with my neighbours hot tub beeping because it has a fault, and at night time when its summer and hot there is usually a family if fox cubs screaming at 4am. Cute, but loud!

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 06/09/2020 18:14

Seagulls and the sea.

Toddlerteaplease · 06/09/2020 18:15

Birds and the clock on the council house a mile away.

stoppingstones · 06/09/2020 18:20

Sirens. All the time. Start about 7am and go on til midnight

Gatekeeper · 06/09/2020 18:27

Skeins of geese flying over
sparrows in the hedge outside

Cars going past
Rooks in the trees at the bottom of the garden
Clocks ticking
Husband whistling
Spoons clattering against a bowl of ice cream
Cats meowing at the fridge
Wind in the trees
At night...foxes mating
Owls hooting as they are establishing territory
Next door lifting weights with accompanying "oofs"

Bbq1 · 06/09/2020 18:29

ALongHardWinter · 06/09/2020 18:33

Trampolines squeaking. Airplanes taking off or coming in to land (I live about a 1.5 miles from a major airport). Cars with stupidly noisy exhausts. Dogs barking. Kids shouting and screaming.

MouseholeCat · 06/09/2020 18:42

Cicadas, crickets, people using power tools, occasionally a freight train in the valley, so many dogs barking. US suburbia!

MadamShazam · 06/09/2020 18:51

Birds tweeting and sheep.

salty78 · 06/09/2020 18:53

Motorbikes and cars with illegal exhausts. It really pisses me off, especially when I get woken up in the middle of the night.

RoseMartha · 06/09/2020 18:55

Kids

36degrees · 06/09/2020 19:01

Birds
Hedge trimmers
Small yappy dogs (next door)
Big woofy dogs (other next door)
Footballers and spectators
Motorbike revvers (Sundays only)
Occasionally a train, church bells or fire engine if the wind is blowing in the right direction.
