40th gift idea for designer sil.

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 04/09/2020 15:17

My sil is very label concious, I however have a maximum of £100 which isn't going to go very far in her world.
Any ideas of what might be acceptable and not be viewed as a poverty spec present?

Is she the kind of person who would judge like that?

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 04/09/2020 15:23

Yes I'm afraid so.
It would be safe to say we are not 'besties'. Grin

Diptyque candle or Aesop hand wash/cream

Just out of interest, what does she buy you for your birthday?

Crimblecrumble1990 · 04/09/2020 15:28

Slightly over budget but something like a big jo malone candle?

I thought SIL was a designer for a moment there and you needed some arty suggestions Smile

There's no way I'd spent that much on someone I wasn't hugely friendly with. Get what you can afford and let her judge away! Life is too short to worry.

BigPlanes · 04/09/2020 15:29

A beautiful classy bunch of flowers and forget about her judging you. Spending significantly less than £100

Spied · 04/09/2020 15:30

Bayliss and Harding gift set.

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 04/09/2020 15:34

Hollow, if she remembers it's usually something that I'm pretty convinced she has regifted.
That being said, she did but me a £50 Boots voucher for my 50th birthday.

I seriously would probably go tongue and cheek and get her something like a handbag from Tesco and a mug with 40th on it 🤣

What about a nice Jo Malone set, or Nuxe, or I noticed Elizabeth Arden have a set reduced on Amazon. Or something personalised like a kite bag with a cotton picture of her, sellers on Etsy and eBay.
Or a voucher for a beauty salon, that type of thing. Or a good champagne. Life is too short just get something and forget about it!

Getoutofbed25 · 04/09/2020 15:35

‘Jute bag’ not a ‘kite bag’

HollowTalk · 04/09/2020 15:36

If she gave you a £50 voucher for your 50th why on earth are you spending £100 on her? Why not get her a £47 Jo Malone candle from the John Lewis site?

Getoutofbed25 · 04/09/2020 15:36

I actually meant Molton Brown set. Some hand cream at this time should be appreciated as we are all hand washing a million times a day!

AbbieFB · 04/09/2020 15:37

A couple of Jo Malone candles.

Elemis moisturiser.
Chanel eyeshadow palette & mascara.

Agree! Don’t be so keen to please her if she isn’t at all bothered about pleasing you!
AbbieFB · 04/09/2020 15:38

Just seen she spent 50 on your 50th. Why not follow suit with 40 on her 40th?

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 04/09/2020 15:46

I want to try and be decent, I wouldn't feel good in myself if I did a tit for tat thing.
She has been quite awful to me in the past but I am determined to rise above it.

There are nice gifts here, L’Occtaine, Cow Shed, Clarins etc

Don’t go above £50!

Spied. Tee hee!

Crunched · 04/09/2020 15:58

What about a (fashion) magazine subscription? If Vogue is too obvious, Harper's Bazaar or similar? It shows you acknowledge her style credentials and wouldn't impose your own... and costs a lot less than £100

Oh come off it, OP. Don't be a martyr. It sounds as though £100 would be a real stretch for you. Why on earth would you spend so much money on someone so horrible? I think in these situations get them what they get you, and then they can say nothing critical at all. Don't try to buy her favours and don't be a martyr.

Chanel coffee table book £20 www.amazon.co.uk/Chanel-Collections-Creations-Dani%C3%A8le-Bott/dp/0500513600?tag=mumsnetforu03-21

Chanel lipstick for £31.

Done and dusted and spend the £50 on yourself :)

linerforlife · 04/09/2020 16:22

I would go Chanel hand cream and Chanel lip balm. Really nice handbag accessories that feel glam!!

7yo7yo · 04/09/2020 16:25

Glitter Shit in a Louis Vuitton box?

TheChosenTwo · 04/09/2020 16:25

She sounds like a materialistic arse but aside from that, could you get her a voucher for a facial or a massage or something? I love getting things like this as it’s something I spend money on anyway so it’s lovely to have them gifted!
