Anyone else stopped wearing make up?

Since lockdown had us working from home and not really needing to leave the house much, I've not worn the stuff and feel so liberated for it!

I've not been dapping the concealer or foundation on for our work team zoom call. I'm starting to appreciate my skin and now wondering why I would cover it so much. Anyone else finding this?

I definitely wear much less than I did before. I realised that I don't need as much as I was wearing and also save myself loads of time in the mornings

Squirrelblanket · 03/09/2020 20:05

I've definitely not been wearing it as much. I used to put it on still when I knew I had a video call but I've almost stopped doing that now. I still wear it if I'm going out to eat/drink though.

I'm so not used to wearing it though that I keep forgetting and rubbing my eyes, ending up with mascara all over my face! Grin

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 03/09/2020 20:06

Yep. Completely stopped, even for the daily work video calls. I never wore much anyway, but this feels really liberating.

God no. I wear slightly more. I am so pale I have to colour myself in to avoid looking like a toothy potato on video calls. It is verging on stage makeup.

DoTheHotStuff · 03/09/2020 20:07

I just wear some mascara and occasionally some lippy. I realised putting things on my skin was actually making it much worse. It feels quite liberating to only wear the bear essentials now. I think it shows confidence not to need it.

Echobelly · 03/09/2020 20:08

I started wearing it when in the office (except Fridays) a few years ago, but I dash it off so quickly I don't really notice wearing it or not! But no, haven't worn in much since March. Put some on today as had quarterly call with some external people but I've never worn makeup every day anyway.

LizzieSiddal · 03/09/2020 20:11

Yes and isn’t it fab. It’s such a revelation to not have to bother every day and my skin has improved. I do put a bit of lippy on for a zoom call or if I’m venturing out, but it’s amazing not to have to deal with concealer, foundation, blusher etc.

AllTheCakes · 03/09/2020 20:11

I used to wear heavy foundation daily and now I either go without it or wear something much lighter. I realised I was making myself look much older with the heavy foundation. I have upped my skincare routine too and feel I don’t need it now.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 03/09/2020 20:19

I've stopped, except if I have to go out somewhere and need to fill in my eyebrows. I put a bit of tinted moisturiser on too. Not sure my skin is any better but it may well be that it wasn't as bad as I thought it was before!

Frownette · 03/09/2020 20:26

Yes! I still wear mascara but can't be bothered with concealer much, it just gets on my mask.

I felt slightly embarassed yesterday in a video call when I suddenly realised I wasn't wearing makeup and had greasy hair.

Bet sales of foundation have plummeted.

Ghostlyglow · 03/09/2020 20:28

I've stopped wearing it and find it a bit depressing when I catch sight of my make up free face, but it feels stupid putting it on to go to work in the next room.

NataliaOsipova · 03/09/2020 20:31

I’ve made a point of putting it on every day to feel “normal”...but reading some of these posts has made me wish I hadn’t bothered and had used the time to wean myself off it....

ItsTimeToPlayTheMusic · 03/09/2020 20:37

I’m wearing less than I did. For most of lockdown I wore none to barely any, so I’ve come back around slightly but not as much as in February.

Depressingly it made bugger all difference to my skin Sad I do wash so chalk it up to PCOS and genes.

JKRowlingIsMyQueen · 03/09/2020 20:38

I stopped wearing it way before the lockdown. Women, unless they are hideous really should not be wearing make-up. Most of us look better without it IMO

BlackberrySky · 03/09/2020 20:38

I am wearing the barest minimum of eye makeup and that's it these days.

BertieDrapper · 03/09/2020 20:41

Yep i never would leave the house without full foundation!
Now just do my eyebrows and lashes, bit of blush and done.

Liberating!!

CareBearFan · 03/09/2020 20:43

Yep, none worn anymore here.

Al1Langdownthecleghole · 03/09/2020 20:46

Well I've given up on lipstick!

Contouring & blusher is a waste of time and I've also stopped wearing earrings because I'm worried I'll pull them out when I remove my mask.

Subtle fake tan & mascara all the way though.

firstimemamma · 03/09/2020 20:46

All I wear is a tiny bit of foundation mixed in with sun cream, mascara, concealer and a bit of lipstick. So very minimal - sometimes just concealer.

thatplaceinjordan · 03/09/2020 20:49

I've only ever worn it for special occasions.
Mascara tend to irritate my eyes when I do.

BlueSlice · 03/09/2020 20:52

I’m wearing more! For video calls I’m making more effort with contouring. And for wearing a mask out I’m wearing more eye make up.

But to be fair when it’s just me at home not on calls then I’m not wearing any at all. So I guess it evens out.

PersonaNonGarter · 03/09/2020 20:56

I have 5/7 make up free now.

I read that make up sales are up in lockdown though, so it’s a bit confusing that we’re not wearing it but still buying it Confused.

It’ll be interesting to see how it shakes down for retail at Christmas. Usually I ask for a make up palette but this year I will ask for nice skincare instead. I reckon that will be similar for lots of people.

Crocky · 03/09/2020 20:58

I’ve given up wearing it and also given up blow drying and straightening my hair. My resemblance to the pigeon lady from Home Alone gets closer everyday.

Oh are they, that surprises me!

Though perhaps people want a pick me up like with the world wars and stockings and lipstick. It's a small thing to make you feel better amid the uncertainty.

I have a craving to put on high heels but they're all in storage.

Austereorange · 03/09/2020 21:03

Same.
I used to be at home 4/7 and never wore anything other than a swish of mascara and lip balm on the 5 days. The other 3 it was full on - mainly because everyone else in my work environment did (along with the seeming uniform of skinny jeans, heels, ‘smart top’ and suit jacket). Not commuting has been a liberation in terms of time and stress, and not dressing up has been a liberation in terms of even more time and stress. Different clothes, make up, petrol, make up, time, dry cleaning, all knocked back to 20% of what it was.

I’m really hoping this balance can remain - for my sanity, the environment, and the good of everyone concerned!!
