God but I'm sick of this. Why do people hate children? And why is our society's view of women with young children "just get on with it will you"?
I wanted to treat Dd2 today and took her to a play cafe which she used to love. Their FB page said open but it was closed. Apparently the covid regulations are aimed at larger places for soft play and a little play cafe like that couldn't cope with the bs rules. It was raining so no playground. Finally I decided to go to a local shopping center near by that has little toy cars that you put coins in. It's egregious and a total waste of money but she loves it and we went there back in June to get school shoes and it was fine.
Got there and they had removed them.
Decided to walk down to the library. No toddler rhyme time etc.
Have people lost their minds?!
At bushy park playground they have removed every second swing for SD.... absolutely nuts as little tots clamber over slides next to each other.
I know policy is made my old white men who have no children but what danger can little children on a play car pose?
Good to get that off my chest
Sorry for the rant

I just got told off in the chemists Hmm.

I waited ages obeying the sign that said no more than two people in shop - pervious customer was chatting to staff even after paying and also had a mate with her – so waited outside in spitting rain.

Hand DS prescription over - told to wait check in shop now only one there yep.

Man come in see me waiting at counter though counter staff wasn’t back walks past me to wait at their inner door. Then an older woman comes in see signs ignore and hoovers at outside door. Pharmacies finally comes out tries to hand prescription to man who ignores him say name I trot over and get told off - there's only supposed to be two people in shop and I need to tell new man at outside door not to come in.

Only person to read the sign and queue and do what they said they wanted told off. I left but I had wanted to buy an item behind the counter – why I was waiting at the desk.

I'd like to think I'd have said something but I'm not sure I would.

It is not your job as a customer to ensure other customers follow the rules and you were also the easy target to criticise.

The man obviously has penis privilege and the other customer couldn't be bothered to read the instructions so possibly bolshy. You, who have obeyed the rules, can obviously read and want to do the right thing so are the easy target.

Not sure it's if it's my resting bitch face but I rarely get told off - although some prat who couldn't park a small car in a large space had a go the other day.

@Ibake

I saw that video earlier. It's an interesting one because, let's face it, there is a chance that he's just choosing not to wear a mask and being a bit of a belligerent arse about it. Certainly twitter seems to think that's the case because he's young, white, gobby and male therefore obvs let's all assume the worst.

But in a kinder more accepting society maybe, just maybe, he's ex armed forces suffering from PTSD, maybe he's spent his early life in the care system and was abused, maybe he's a rape victime, maybe he's undiagnosed ASD. The point is, we don't know and neither does that police officer. And no one should have to verbalise out loud, in front of strangers, those reasons.

There's no way the police would treat me like that as a 49 year old woman and yet the police think they can do that to him because they've made assumptions. If you're told someone has an exemption you accept their word, and accept that the odd chancer slips through the net. Because the alternative is that you bully and oppress the vulnerable.

I think that's put into words what I feel.

I see belligerent attitude FIL often has with people - works with his GP as he refused to engage with the receptionist triaging but in shops if he encounters someone with attitude back can easily lead to arguments.

But the reason that wouldn't happen to me in my early 40s is because I'd be instantly explaining about medical exceptions - almost apologizing for not being able to comply offer information - if it was something I didn't want to discuss I'd have put thought into how to word it and have a lanyard explaining that I couldn't wear one.

I think it's a socialisation difference FIL and possibly this man expect to be listen to - so can come across belligerent when explinations are asked for when they don't think it necessary. While I'm anticptaing people may be arseholes and work on defusing the aggression or try to avoid the entire situation.

If there's no system to identify and register people with exceptions - you have to take people's word for it - and the officer really should have done that- and a different approach may have had a more compliant interaction as well.

LadyOfTheImprovisedBath · 04/09/2020 15:04

RealityExistsInTheHumanMind that was pretty much my take on it wasn't my job to ensure other customer complied and I was the easy target.

Today it was irritating other days when I'm more down I think I'd have been upset. I think it's a sign perhaps I need to look at other local chemists they'd be a bit further but a minute that's less an issue.

I think I have an air of approachability at times which is odd - other times when I'm on my last nerve I can project a don't fuck with me air that does seem to get across to people. Seems very dependent on my actual moods.

Willow2017 · 04/09/2020 15:16

Lady you should have told her you were there first and you aren't the shop doorkeeper!
We need to call out this bumkyjng power trip nonsense. 2 in a whole shop ffs! How many are in a supermarket? A cafe? A petrol station? It's past a joke.

That video us horrific do you notice how they gave spun it in thier statement? Pity the policeman fuegit about cameras on phones these days. Hope he gets hauled over the coals and the guy gets an apology. Whethet he is exempt or not i dont care, it's the fact thst they think its ok to ignore exemptions and throw thier weight around grabbing anyone they please the pepper spraying the! What if he had reacted to the attack and spray in a full blown panic attack or serious health incident? Why us going on when police are bothering more about bits of cloth than actual real crimes which they never seem to have time for! They could have sorted out a whole backlog of investigations while every one was locked down🤣🤣

Willow2017 · 04/09/2020 15:19

Oh ffs the spelling my phone hates me!

HeIenaDove · 04/09/2020 15:23

Agree the coercion and trauma being inflicted on deafblind disabled children is the height of cruelty.

It's amazing the difference having the routine of school, went swimming and noticed the toddler pool is back with the slides, parents and children all enjoying themselves which was nice, and also the bowling alley is open as well.

ISaySteadyOn · 04/09/2020 15:57

That's good to hear.

DominaShantotto · 04/09/2020 16:11

School are looking at reducing their gaps between bubbles entering down a bit to get more toward normal start times after next week if things go as smoothly as they have done this week... to be honest with the usual late lot - if they did a 10 minute arrival window to sanitise hands and settle down people would naturally space out in our school and I think it would work a lot better.

Only issue we've got is that DD2 is sitting in a sopping wet hand splint all day because of the sanitiser and hand washing - school won't help her remove it properly and put it back on so it's ikk by the time she gets home and less than ideal. I've resorted to just buying a second one so I can swap them over at home and she can at least be clean and dry then. I'm pissed off mildly they won't help a child with motor skills difficulties put a medical implement back on after handwashing - but I'll pick my battles somewhat at the moment... won the one about the lack of school bags in DD2's circumstances and she can take hers in (or she'd never get out of the building on an evening for dropping things).

Their poor skin is drying out already though and taking in their own sanitiser has been banned today after they've all faffed about with it. Just slathering on the hand cream at home to try to keep their hands as un-sore as possible.

@RobinHobb I am so, so sick of it. Museums round here have opened with the bits for young children closed. The church down the road has started letting keep fit classes back into the hall but not our toddler group. I am fucking done with this.

And did anyone hear Women’s Hour today? Two women speaking about their experience of miscarriage in lockdown. It made me weep. No general anaesthetic allowed so no D&C - pessaries instead which made the process last weeks for one women. No scans outwith the basic ones. No partners allowed in. Utter cruelty.

ISaySteadyOn · 04/09/2020 16:38

That's absolutely horrific. No excuse for treating women like that.

Pixel77 · 04/09/2020 16:56

I read about that too. Could be dangerous health wise too..awful

RobinHobb · 04/09/2020 17:03

God that puts my petty woes into perspective. I had a miscarriage and D&c with GA many years ago. I cannot imagine this that you're describing with the pessary. It makes me want to weep too. We live in a world where mostly men make rules and some of these men hate women.

SomewhereEast · 04/09/2020 17:06

@agentcooper Wow thats grim. Can't believe - having had to have one myself because of a missed miscarriage - that they weren't offered a D & C. I'm so sick of it all

Pixel77 · 04/09/2020 17:17

It just seems so extreme, risky for the patients too (what if they get an infection / sepsis from retained pregnancy?) as well as the rest of it

Why can't they regularly test the doctors doing the surgery and patients and use really good infection control, rather than just saying 'can't do it' it's crazy.

Pixel77 · 04/09/2020 17:20

And on the children, yes it is mad too even they don;t get it or pass it on hardly, seems very out of proportion. None of it seems very rational does it. The swings thing, I mean, outdoors is very low risk too, very unlikely to catch it from a nearby swing you would think. It is Health and Safety gone mad.

Our antidementory school post pics on twitter of the new starters all in a big group waving and smiling, no masks in sight, nice to see their smiling faces. It's pretty normal apparently, little weirdness. So that is good.

Pixel77 · 04/09/2020 17:21

We live in a world where mostly men make rules and some of these men hate women

and covid mainly affects males doesn't it...makes you think

justasking111 · 04/09/2020 17:41

Dementors are sharpening their gnashers again today I see. Depressing reading if you are a grand parent.

Pixel77 · 04/09/2020 17:46

There are some horrible people around- from being hysterical originally they seem to be turning against the vulnerable Confused

MxEWeatherwax · 04/09/2020 17:56

That’s horrible about miscarriage, I’ve had one and they scan to make sure everything is removed because I thought was dangerous if anything left.
We got told off by a woman passenger on the park and ride bus today. Because my DH was sitting next to me because the sign says you have to sit at a window seat. My DH and another man moved from their partners. But another bus company say family groups should sit together and not spread out. She went on and on. Honestly you are on the bus less than 10 minutes. Everyone had a mask on. Even friend finally told her to be quiet.

Willow2017 · 04/09/2020 18:12

That's really bad treatment. Why on earth couldn't they scan them? They are still doing ultrasounds on pregnant women, still doing MRIs, etc. Brutality against women is now the norm and excused.

I was going to post on that "bleaching your shopping" thread but why bother. How do people think goods get on the shelves in a supermarket? How many times a day do staff touch them? Before the cafe reopened I could spend a 5 hr shift just removing cardboard and plastic and pulling cans etc forwards so bloody customers could reach it. As they all leaned over me or pushed me out the way it never seemed to bother them that I had touched those 5 cans of tomatoes first!
Someone was even horrified that their delivery driver had dropped 2 things and had the nerve to pick them up with his disease ridden hand and put them in her 'speshul covix killing crate' on her step! HTAF did she think.they got in the bags in the first place, robots???
Used to love the threads on here in March about regularly washing your hands i pointed out that while on a checkout this was a bit impractical! Answer "just go to the toilet and do it it's not difficult!" Yeah because taking 10 minutes to go to staff area and back every hour was not going to be a problem at all!!

People are freaking brain dead on here.
