amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07JCXK3HP/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Vitamin D3]]

£8 or 2p a day
Vit D is really inexpensive - the link is a years supply - I double up from Nov to Mar and skip days in summer when I know I have had sun on my skin. I've been taking it for 4 years. My ankles no longer hurt in the morning. Skin issues on my thighs have disappeared and my mood - well I'm still moody but no longer need antidepressants.

OK I know I am being health dementorish here, but having seen the evidence re Covid on top of all my own experience, I can't help it.

I tested low for vit D in July after being out with DS for at least 2 hours a day since lockdown started! Bloody Scotland. I’ve been taking the D3+K2 spray since.

110APiccadilly · 11/09/2020 23:12

Oh yes Taswama, I do take it as well! Getting some from the sun is just a rather nice extra. (Although living in Wales makes it particularly hard!)

Magnesium. Magnesium increases absorption. In turn vitamin d depleats magnesium because what you do have gets used up more efficiently.

I bore myself banging on about it but at least I'm more succinct that Dr John.

He does fucking go on doesn't he. The vid could have covered everything in 3 to max 5 minutes.

But yes - I take a good dose of magnesium glycinate, D3, K2 for general health and a few other things for specific issues. Those are the things that I never miss though as I have seen such specific results from them. And become aware very quickly if I forget.

I need to take iron regularly, small dose only, (I use Spatone) Kept forgetting, no immediate consequences so stopped bothering. 6 months later, deep sighing, tinnitus and balance issue coming back.

I can vouch for vir D supplements working. My levels were badly low, and despite that I was lucky enough not to get coughs and colds that much, or severly, although I had such aching bones for half my menstrual cycle I thought I was having early menopause.
Since correcting my vitamin D levels I just dont get ill at all, even despite my inlaws best coughing-all-over-me efforts.

I did very likely have covid in March (ferry from France full of half term skiing trips) and it was very mild for me just rather an odd virus.

It's important for over 300 processes in our bodies.

Thank you so much @InsaneInTheViralMembrane

Saw this on a friends social media this morning and I loved it.

"When you hear on the news about the spike in Covid cases being down to "young people", please bare in mind that it's mostly "young people" that work in hospitality. Who had to work every given hour of August to cater for the hundreds of thousands of you who went out for 50% off your food, working with - and for - far more people than social distancing allows. Having the audacity to blame our generation for the spike is a fucking piss take."

I hate the way the govt is constantly pointing the finger so that we will end up blaming anyone but them.

JamSarnie · 12/09/2020 07:40

We shouldn't be blaming anyone. It's a virus and viruses have spent a bloody long time making sure they spread well. I hate this attitude that others are to blame as we have never apportioned blame for any other disease.

100% this.

My anti-D doing yesterday was to visit the Wave water park in the Midlands. All very well-organised - lots of markings for social distancing (even though I was in a minority for observing them while queueing), staff sanitising the entrances to rides before people went in them. Not many of them bothered with masks.

But OMG, hearing the BBC news on the way home was depressing. It was dementory from start to finish, all about the R number. Why this angle (which no doubt the spin doctors have ordered the BBC to take)? Is it the justification for the rule of six? Is it to terrify people not to have parties this weekend before the rule comes in? Is it to soften us up for more forthcoming restrictions?

We're now seeing that even though cases are up, hospital admissions are way down. Is that not what Saint Boris wanted, herd immunity? This "moonshite" testing is going to do much more harm than good. As they keep neglecting to mention: case numbers are going up, because testing is going up. Spin spin spin spin spin. Keep the public terrified. I am going to take special care to stay off the D threads - they're going to have a field day with this.

JamSarnie · 12/09/2020 08:12

I wish I had stayed off the mask one. I find it depressing how many people actually love them which means even if a vaccine miraculously appeared I am sure a vocal section would want to keep them mandatory.

MaudesMum · 12/09/2020 08:20

Ooh thank you to everyone who has been going on about Vitamin D! I've been taking Vitamin D & Calcium tablets for a bit (I'm of an age where osteoporosis is on the horizon). Because you were all talking about it, I just looked at the bottle and realised I should be taking 3 tablets a day, not 1. I have been outside quite a lot over the summer, so probably ok, but will up the dosage from now on.

SomewhereEast · 12/09/2020 08:21

I hate the scapegoating of the young too. Not only are they more likely to work in intensely public-facing roles, but they're also more likely to live in shared accommodation, much more likely to live separately from their significant others & more likely to rely on public transport. But yes, they should 100% be held responsible for the moral failing of not living like a married middle class 40 year old WFH in their three bedroom owner-occupier house, with a C-Max in the driveway (basically just described myself Grin).

LivinLaVidaLoki · 12/09/2020 08:29

Saw this quote on another thread. I like it.

"Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety"

God I don't know where I fall. I'm 25 (should be!) Married with a kid. A Yaris (cliche mum car!) on the drive of my 3 bed semi. Weirdly I can also wfh (dp can't!) But let me tell you if I've caught Corona anywhere it will almost definitely be at work. Half our ward staff and our receptionists were sent home earlier in the week. Guess who sat on reception yesterday. Yep that would be me!

A lot less exciting than raves let me tell you Grin

wanderings · 12/09/2020 09:12

In other non-D news, on a rare visit to my young nieces, I managed to do my Harry Potter trick of making them think they'd Apparated. They were delighted (although the older one sussed the trick).

For those who want to do this on their DC: get them to practise jumping off a low stool first. If they're old enough to say the words "destination, determination, deliberation", then get them to do so. Then take them to the middle of the room or garden, and tell them you will make them Apparate from the stool to a completely different spot. Blindfold them, telling them this is to protect them from being Splinched, and spin them round. Move the stool to near where they are to appear (it helps if someone can do this for you), lead them to it, and help them to stand on it. Tell them they have to stay blindfolded until you say (or they might get Splinched), tell them to jump; when they have, quickly move the stool back to its original position. Then they're allowed to look and see where they ended up, and how far away they are from the stool!

I was thinking it’s like when AIDS started and gay men were blamed, and sufferers treated so badly. Awful times. Sad to see them back
NeedWineNow · 12/09/2020 10:21

I agree with you all. The government is using the blame game to deflect from showing just how incompetent they are. And Hancock has the typical look of a kid that was left out at school but has now got power and is not afraid to use it ‘for the greater good of course’ . I could scream with frustration at them all.

RealityExistsInTheHumanMind · 12/09/2020 10:23

@MaudesMum
rather than taking 3 of your calcium and Vit D I would stick with one of them and buy some vitamin D3 in an oil filled gel capsule. Most often we are not low in calcium but it just get into the bones to do the work. Topping up your vit D3 is way more effective. If you def do need the three of your tabs I would still top up vitamin D in oil - especially in winter. (At least 1000 iu - I take 4,000 iu year round - if we get a long spell of no sun in the winter I double up to 8000 iu.

Absolutely agree with this!

(To which the Finger-pointers will smugly declare they didn't go out at all in August, so it's not their fault everyone's ill.)

People who throw big parties, people who follow the rules, and even dementors- they are not all one type of person, they're not all from one socio-economic group or within one age bracket.

Blaming others is too easy.

Something else I find really odd at the moment, is the amount of people claiming that school cannot be safe as they and their kids have been living pretty much in isolation for 6 months now they are at school they are sick with colds.
How are these people not understanding that this is not a reflection of how "safe" school is.
Your child has not mixed with another soul for 6 months and been living in a house that is disinfected multiple times a day.
Doesn't it make sense that this will weaken their immunity so when they return to school and mixing with people in different environments?
I'm actually really concerned about the long term effects on our children's immunity.

All very true - it is also evidence that the masks and distancing in schools are a waste of time - If you can catch a cold virus - which they are doing, they will catch Covid if it is there.

This is, however, a good thing. They will start to build immunity so that, as they get older, cv19 will just be one of the many cold viruses out there.
