They're all normal food combinations.

justasking111 · 02/09/2020 14:33

No cheese and marmalade though Grin

I'd never have most of them, some seem perfectly normal, but I can't believe that fish fingers and custard is real.

No's 4 and 13 sound delicious! 😋
Does anyone add vinegar to gravy? I do, especially when I'm covering chips with it.

christinarossetti19 · 02/09/2020 14:45

My mum used to do no.23 cold baked beans in a salad.

I think it was inspired by the F-plan diet in the '80s.

Nos 2, 3, and 40 seem pretty normal to me (although I suspect that's what the custard covered fish finger eaters say too!).

Mrsjayy · 02/09/2020 14:49

Vinegar in gravy is a must imo. Nobody but matt smiths Doctor who eats Fish fingers and custard.

Mrsjayy · 02/09/2020 14:50

I dont like the cake hard cheese combo.

justasking111 · 02/09/2020 14:51

A friend got me into pepper on strawberries with cointreau. Lush....

OP posts:
Mrsjayy · 02/09/2020 14:53

I have had marmalade chicken its quite 90s though.

NoddingTulip · 02/09/2020 14:56

A lot of those sound pretty normal to me. I'm actually just ating a variation on 7/17, being kiwi its a pretty normal to eat 'fairy bread' which is buttered bread with sprinkles on top. Okay, so its a kids thing, but its one of my guilty naughty snacks that I treat myself to when I'm alone.

Ilovesausages · 02/09/2020 15:03

Some of these have to be made up!!!

The only one I do is ketchup on rice and cheese. That is delicious.

I have never heard of some of the others and refuse to believe they are real!

AdaColeman · 02/09/2020 15:12

A lot of them are classic combinations I'd say, especially porridge with salt.

Doesn't everyone mix ketchup & mayonnaise to make seafood sauce; quick Marie Rose sauce?

Parma ham and melon is another classic combination, and feta with watermelon was THE salad a few of summers ago, strawberries with balsamic vinegar, cheese with jam, all perfectly ordinary combinations.

I wonder what the compiler of the list eats?

Cockadoodledooo · 02/09/2020 15:18

Pot noodle on toast?! Heathens. Everyone knows it's SUPERnoodles that go on toast - with a poached egg on top!

doriscartwheel · 02/09/2020 15:25

Most seem quite normal. Couldn't see my fav sandwich - pate and jam Smile we had cold baked beans in salad, still prefer them cold now

longtompot · 02/09/2020 15:31

I've done/do these ones

  1. Mixing mayonnaise and ketchup
  1. Cheddar cheese and apple
  1. Salt and porridge
  1. Pizza and tuna
  1. Sugar sandwiches
  1. Prosciutto and melon
  1. Banana and sugar sandwiches - well, ham and banana sandwiches

  2. Ham marinated and cooked in cola

  3. Watermelon and feta

  4. Butter and sugar sandwiches - isn't that the same as number 7?

  5. Ketchup and rice

  6. Cold baked beans in a salad - cold baked beans with finely chopped spring onion, esp with quiche and salad potatoes

  7. Cold Brussels sprouts and gravy

  8. Mince pies topped with cheese - Christmas cake too

cariadlet · 02/09/2020 15:48

Most of those sound gross to me but cheddar cheese and apple is very normal and I'm sure porridge with salt is the traditional Scottish way of eating it.

orangejuicer · 02/09/2020 15:48

Heinz chicken soup followed by Mcvities dark chocolate digestives Grin

Will0wtree · 02/09/2020 17:03

Fish fingers and custard was one of the foods the Matt Smith Doctor Who tried when he first regenerated and was trying to find out what foods he liked. I wonder if the list compilers have got it from that.

(Apparently Matt Smith said he was actually eating fish fingers and custard in the scene and it was quite nice.)

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 02/09/2020 17:06

Number 8

TwizzledTurkey · 02/09/2020 17:14

I do use a few but I particularly love baked beans with rice. I add some smoked paprika and hot sauce to the beans and then put on white rice and top with lots of grated cheese! Yummy and quick dinner when you have nothing in the house!

iklboo · 02/09/2020 17:30

@Nepsa - I love chips & gravy with LOADS of vinegar. Especially Chinese chippy gravy.

Of that list I have 2, 8, 11, 15. 36 as part of a cheese & charcuterie board. I like tuna mayo sandwiches with salt & vinegar crisps on the side.

Nepsa · 02/09/2020 17:31

Have you tried vinegar in curry? It's nice but not as nice as in gravy 😋
Dinosauratemydaffodils · 02/09/2020 17:34

Ham cooked in coke is delicious. Not tried any of the others. My mil used to get sugar sandwiches as a treat in NI in the 50s.

@iklboo I'm the same, the more vinegar I have the better, I love pickled onions in gravy too, especially on a roast dinner.

DRyder1 · 02/09/2020 17:47

Mixing mayonnaise and ketchup together is perfectly normal, that's the base for seafood sauce...
