Just for fun: if you could go anywhere in the world right now to a place you've never been, where would you go and why? (This is purely fantasy so no Covid or other restrictions such as money, work, etc.)

I would go to Bora Bora. French Polynesia has always fascinated me; crystal clear sea, white sands, a little hut perched over the water... I would swim, windsurf, snorkel, read, paint or just dream. There would be no crowds of tourists or anyone else, no internet or phones, no traffic - just loveliness as far as the eye could see.

Bora Bora, or back to Amsterdam, or Prague. Anywhere with my lovely husband, where there's a little bit of peace ☺️

ChilliBeanSauce · 02/09/2020 00:51

I would go the glow worm caves on the north island of NZ that we couldn't visit because of an unexpected surprise - our baby son !

vapeinafleshlight · 02/09/2020 00:53

Galápagos Islands

Crylittlesister · 02/09/2020 00:59

Lots of the places I would love to go seem so totally spoiled for various reasons, that I don't think I could now. India and Thailand being the main destinations. So in fantasy world, either, but ideally both!

MrsTerryPratchett · 02/09/2020 01:01

Bhutan. I REALLY want to go and COVID buggered up my plans.

@Crylittlesister honestly, check it out. Spoiled it isn't.

Oh and it has 0 covid deaths and very few cases.

Stompythedinosaur · 02/09/2020 01:47

I really want to go to Pitcairn Island, or maybe Tristan da Cunha. I am really interested in very remote islands.

You might want to have a little Google of Pitcairn. Really awful place for women and girls. Sad

Japan. It's been top of my bucket list for years but it's quite expensive.

remainin · 02/09/2020 07:59

Remember, this is a fantasy so expense, illness and negativity aren't "allowed".Smile

Anywhere in the world you say?

I miss travelling. Did loads when young. DS and I do lots of road trips in Europe for our holidays.

We are planning a US road trip. I did the USA a long time ago but it was just the cities. Would love to see the open country, the mountains, the unusual landscape

Mind you, Bora Bora sounds wonderful.

magimedi · 02/09/2020 09:14

What a lovely thread.

I would go somewhere where I would be 100% guaranteed of seeing the Northern Lights. Always wanted to see them & never have.

thenightsky · 02/09/2020 09:33

I've always been fascinated by French Polynesia too and would love to go to Bora Bora.
I've also always wanted to see Easter Island.
I price both destinations up occasionally, but can never get close to being able to afford them.

rosiethehen · 02/09/2020 09:54

Norway

daisychain1620 · 02/09/2020 09:58

There's an island in the South Pacific called Anuta, I saw it on a documentary series. It is paradise! Its gorgeous and everyone works together for the good of the community and everyone helps out. Ah, even thinking about it now makes me want to go now ☺️

chomalungma · 02/09/2020 10:48

There's a Greek island called Amorgos.
I only know it from a film called The Big Blue.

It looks lovely - and it's definitely on my list of places to go.

@rosiethehen We drove to Norway last year (as you do) and camped by a fjord. Absolutely beautiful scenery.

CokeEnStock · 02/09/2020 10:51

I want to go to Norway too. Dd and I went to Oslo for the weekend in Feb and I loved it and want to see more of the country. Wine is ££££ though.

daisychain1620 · 02/09/2020 10:52

We were meant to go to Norway in July for our holiday- damn you Covid!

chomalungma · 02/09/2020 11:01

Wine is ££££ though

It was just DS and me - so all I did was get some beers from the supermarket (you can buy single beers) and put them in the fjord to cool them down!!

Lovely country. But as we were camping (and DS is a fussy eater), we just cooked by the campsite and didn't eat out - not even McDonalds - as that was expensive.

pepinanalilyplant · 02/09/2020 11:05

Lovely thread!!! Taking notes 📝

cariadlet · 02/09/2020 11:13

I'd love to be in Costa Rica, surrounded by rainforest and just a short walk to a beautiful beach. DP didn't have any work coming in during lockdown and ended up spending hours on Costa Rican property websites. We daydream about the houses we could live in, thousands of miles away from everything that's going on in the UK.

cariadlet · 02/09/2020 11:14

Didn't read the op properly. We've been to Costa Rica before. Which is why we'd love to be there right now instead of being stuck here.

beguilingeyes · 02/09/2020 11:32

Japan for me, or the West Coast of Canada, the Rockies etc.

I'd really like to go back to Vietnam. We went a few years ago and it was heaven.

Stompythedinosaur · 02/09/2020 11:38

cariadlet we went to Costa Rica last year and it was like paradise. An absolutely amazing place!

MrsTerry Of course I've already googled my dream location! The sex abuse scandal is one of the reasons I dont see myself actually travelling to Pitcairn soon, but I would still love to see it. I suppose I'm interested in how it feels to be so far away from everything.
