What little things do you never pay full price for - even though you could.?.

A friend and I were discussing Charlie Bigham meals - and I said I only buy them when they are reduced. She agreed. We are both well paid professionals who can afford an expensive ready meal.

But we can't bring ourselves too....

Gabor shoes. I love them but only buy them in the sales

minnieok · 01/09/2020 17:36

Most things - dominos springs to mind but I love a deal!

Thecobwebsarewinning · 01/09/2020 17:38

Jewellery. Obviously I don’t buy it often because I’m not a millionaire but I go to independent jewellers and always ask ‘is that the best price you can do?’ There is always room for manoeuvre and feeling I’ve got a bargain makes the thrill of something new and shiny even greater.

ColleagueFromMars · 01/09/2020 17:40

Nescafe Azera - good to see others on here are the same!

Pre-supermarket deliveries I would raid reductions and only buy fresh meat reduced. It still feels extravagant to buy it full price!

There was a dominoes AMA recently and the person answering said that people 9/10 buy an offer so that was considered the price of the pizza.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 01/09/2020 17:40

Dishwasher tabs, I only buy them on special offer. Also loo roll, I will occasionally buy my favourite one at full price but only just enough to hold me over until they're on offer again.

Puffinhead · 01/09/2020 17:43

Yorkshire Tea - only buy the big boxes when on offer.

And definitely yes to Babybels!

AriesTheRam · 01/09/2020 17:43

Pringles I get them when theyre a pound.

For those who want Ben and jerrys they usually have it in Lidl for 2.50

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 01/09/2020 17:44

I forgot Oreos, they're nobody's favourite biscuit in the family but I buy them when they're on offer and the DC eat them if there's nothing else.

Lweji · 01/09/2020 17:44

Washing powder or tablets. I tend to buy whatever has a discount. But my favourites seem to be discounted every other week and often I end up with several packs.

Often also shower gels, toothbrushes, toothpaste, etc.
The trick is to buy whenever there's a discount instead of when needed.

Also takeaway pizza, but that's because they always have some sort of discount. I know it's a marketing ploy. (Also, see above)

Museum entries if they have a discount for my sort of job and accept my work card.

TrippinFlippin · 01/09/2020 17:45

Pretty much everything. Why pay full price when there will be a discount code or special offer on Wink

Aldi and b&m bargains for food and household shopping too! You'll never see me in Waitrose - absolute waste of money

MondeoFan · 01/09/2020 17:46

@cheesecrackersandchips I'm the same as you. Hate to pay for parking. Sometimes it's like £4 and I think I'm not paying that. I park out of town and walk. I went to Westfield shopping with my brother once we were only there just over 2 hours, it cost £7 made me feel quite ill

HowFastIsTooFast · 01/09/2020 17:47

Running gear. I almost had a coronary when DP was about to pay £26 for a single generic T-shirt for the gym the other day. Thankfully he saw the light and ordered 2 for £14 from Sports Direct instead.

Mintjulia · 01/09/2020 17:50

Ds's favourite pepperoni pizza.

Shampoo & conditioner because I can usually find them half price if I look around.

GellerYeller · 01/09/2020 17:51

If Lloyd Grossman appears in the cupboard (the sauce, not the man, obviously) I know it was on offer for a quid.

DH has a pathological aversion to buying it at full price.

Gulsink · 01/09/2020 19:10

Popcorn. If the butterkist isn't on offer, the Metcalfes is and vice-versa.

Boden clothes. (Most clothes actually.)

Lego.

doingitforthefrill · 01/09/2020 19:15

Big bag of Doritos
Tube of Pringles
Baby bel or cheese strings - Will never buy any of those full price!

waitforitwaitforit · 01/09/2020 19:16

Another one for Azera coffee. Lurpak is another one that's always on offer, and Fairy liquid. I never buy full price Carte d' or ice cream either.

I also rarely buy clothes full price. So many retailers take 20% off regularly so I just wait till things are discounted.

user1497207191 · 01/09/2020 19:21

Most of my branded weekly shopping - biscuits, fizzy drinks, crisps, cereals, tins, loo rolls etc. I only ever buy them when they're on bogof or 3 for 2 or some other discount. In reality the discounted price is the "real" price as they're always discounted somewhere. They're just making extra profit when mugs buy them when not on offer.

In particular McCoys crisps - I could easily buy at the "RRP" but why would you when they're reduced in supermarkets (and even Spar shops) on regular rotation.

TurkeyTrot · 01/09/2020 19:21

Pringles! £2.50 is outrageous but £1.25 seems OK.

Oh yes, for very small things:

Pringles
Oreos
Jammie Dodgers
After Eights
Lurpak

Manolin · 01/09/2020 19:32

Cars, again.

And I will come back to this theme. As OP said "not so little", but trust me they are enormous grinders of hard-earned money into little things, like waste and dust and rust.

Fruitteatime · 01/09/2020 19:35

Cereal, crisps, hand soap, shower gel, child's farm products, kids clothes (always in sale or tu 25% off), chocolate, organix products, ellas pouches, pizza express supermarket products, chilled desserts, brand name biscuits, brand name washing powder/fabric softener, all brand name products actually. To be fair if I suddenly started buying all the above at full price we'd probably be rather skint.

Cookiecrisps · 01/09/2020 19:42

Never pay full price for Doritos salsa dips, Pringles, fresh fish or cleaning products. I only buy the value or smart price brand of flour. Really couldn’t pay full price for pre prepared / cut fruit and veg. Love a rummage through the reduced aisle. We’ve had a £12 shoulder of lamb for £3, expensive ready meals, luxury brand yogurts and pots of sandwich fillers for 10-20p if we can time it right.

MNOverinvestor · 01/09/2020 19:51

Fairy Liquid Platinum, Taylor's of Harrogate coffee. Most clothes at the moment. I love a yellow sticker, especially fruit I can stick in the freezer and use for smoothies.
