What little things do you never pay full price for - even though you could.?.

A friend and I were discussing Charlie Bigham meals - and I said I only buy them when they are reduced. She agreed. We are both well paid professionals who can afford an expensive ready meal.

But we can't bring ourselves too....

Pizza Express pizzas in supermarkets. They’re the only ones DP claims to like Hmm but I refuse to pay £5 for them so only buy them when they’re £2.50

DaughterX · 01/09/2020 16:43

Pizza Express pizzas was the first thing I thought of. I even refuse to buy them in Waitrose when reduced to only £3.33 or whatever it is when I know they're £2.50 everywhere else!

bluemumsbluedog · 01/09/2020 16:45

Haagen Dazs
Coca Cola
Toilet rolls
Douwe Egbert coffee

FizzyPink · 01/09/2020 16:47

Oh and ASOS. They have 20% off or similar at least every fortnight so I fill up my wish list and then wait until the app alerts me there’s a discount

RedRec · 01/09/2020 16:52

Pringles. I have seen them at £3 full price in the Co-op!
Nice ice cream like Ben and Jerry's or Haagen Dazs.

IntermittentParps · 01/09/2020 16:52

Plants! I love them, have lots of them, but I get more satisfaction from buying a sorry looking specimen and bringing it back to life than I do spending ££ on a full price one
Me too! My plants are pretty much all rescued/inherited from people who've moved overseas/cuttings from other people's.

Also, the Body Shop body scrubs. I love them but they're £16 each full price! A 40 or 50%-off sale rolls round once every few months and I stock up. I mean, I could afford £16, but why would I pay that??

ArtieFufkinPolymerRecords · 01/09/2020 16:55

@cariadlet

I use Original Source shower gel. It's on offer so often that I could never pay full price.
Exactly what I was going to say - I always buy when they are on offer for £1. Also washing capsules.
Redcrayons · 01/09/2020 16:55

Flowers, always buy the yellow sticker ones. They don’t last that much longer when they’re full price
I like Charlie Bingham fish pie but only buy it when it’s reduced. It’s not even like they’re giving it away at a reduced price.

Does anyone ever pay full price at Gap?

lazylinguist · 01/09/2020 16:56

I wouldn't say I often buy specific things at reduced prices. I'm not fussed about brands, because I don't usually think they are any better than generic, so I shop mainly in Aldi.

chunkyrun · 01/09/2020 16:57

I love method cleaning products. I fill a basket when they're on offer

UnfinishedSymphon · 01/09/2020 16:57

Ben & Jerry's

piscis · 01/09/2020 17:01

Method cleaning products, I buy only when on offer.
Also Vanish Oxy Action, I buy only on offer.
I haven't ever paid the full price for these items and I've got them at home all the time.
GAP clothes as well, they are always making discounts, so no way I am paying for anything full price

grannycake · 01/09/2020 17:01

Any premium icecream - there's always one on offer
Home Bargains for Nivea, Aveeno, Branston Beans and petfood

KevinAndHerKits · 01/09/2020 17:09

Dishwasher tablets, laundry liquid

GellerYeller · 01/09/2020 17:14

My kids have reached an age where choosing whatever style of school shoe is available in their size in the Clarks outlet just won't cut it anymore. Ditto trainers. Sob!

I know someone who is very very well off indeed who won't buy a full price Charlie Bighams!

CrunchyNutNC · 01/09/2020 17:15

I have found my MN tribe! Shock

It would be quicker saying what I do happily pay full price for!

I routinely stock up on things when they are on offer - coffee, Toni & Guy shampoo, Haagen Dazs, tonic water, squash, laundry powder.

@GolightlyMrsGolightly

Not entirely sure I class a car as a little thing!
I have a Smart. It's a glorified backpack with 4 wheels. It's a small thing :)
Thecobwebsarewinning · 01/09/2020 17:21

Not now because my kids are in their twenties but back in the day it was nappies. I liked Huggies and they were regularly on offer as buy 2 get one free. I had them stacked in piles 5 ft high and in 6 years of nappy buying I never ever paid full price.

Now it’s Persil liquid and champagne.

igotdemons · 01/09/2020 17:26

Everything! I rarely buy anything unless it’s already on offer or I can find a discount code somewhere. And yes, I could afford to pay full price but that would be madness if I can get it cheaper!

jolokoy · 01/09/2020 17:26

Basically, anything that doesn't go off.

If it's on offer, I buy it and use it up until the next time it's on offer. Rarely get caught out as the offers are so regular.

Meruem · 01/09/2020 17:27

Cigarettes! No way am I paying £10 a pack when I can get a cheap flight to a nice city in Europe and bring back all I need for £3 a pack!
Azera coffee. It’s my favourite instant but £5 is too much and there’s often half price on it so I buy extra then. Ben and Jerry’s I only get on offer.

Em3978 · 01/09/2020 17:28

Gluten free bread!
I'd rather go without tjan pay £3 for a teeny loaf.

AbsenceOfBlinkinLight · 01/09/2020 17:28

The one shaving gel that doesn’t give me a rash - specific brand and type, but I just stockpile when it’s on offer.

Most other things I just look at the price per kg hidden in a tiny font on the website, and go for the cheapest. Though not frozen peas (very cheapest are flabby and tasteless) or meat (I aim for the cheapest free range or organic).

SilverOtter · 01/09/2020 17:29

Dominos pizza
Posh ice cream
Parking

Ninkanink · 01/09/2020 17:32

We buy as much non-branded food and household goods as we can, but that’s less to do with cost and much more to do with disliking most of the bigger brands. It

I buy pretty much all my clothing and accessories reduced. It’s also very rare that I buy shoes at full price, because I know when the brands I like hold their sales. The only time I buy full price is when I really need something and can’t wait, or if I truly love something and don’t want it to sell out.

The last things I bought reduced were some patterned salad/starter plates, a couple of sushi serving platters, a set of bedding and matching bedspread.

I can’t remember the last thing I bought that was at full price.
