My daughter applied at the end of June and still no sign of it.

Thank you. Ds doesn’t turn 17 until end of the year but is keen to start as soon as he can.

You can only apply up to two months before your 17th birthday so he won’t be able to apply until at least end of October if his birthday is end of year.
GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 01/09/2020 21:16

He applied on Saturday and it all went though fine.

You can apply from 15yrs 9months old (i just checked)

reflectivesunglasses · 01/09/2020 21:24

My DS applied about three weeks ago and received his within a week

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 01/09/2020 21:25

You’re all confirming why I thought anyway, that it would take a while. The website said two weeks but I wanted a more realistic answer so I don’t go chasing it before needed.

DS applied in May got his back 2 weeks ago. There was a backlog but I think they're getting on top of it

Thanks I went back and checked too to see I wasn’t going mad Grin

Not sure where @mummabear1967 got that info from then.

That's not right, you can apply 3 months ahead, when you enter your DOB it only lets you carry on if you've clicked past the date

dementedpixie · 01/09/2020 21:35

@lifesalongsong you can apply from 15yrs 9 months

Lemoncurd · 01/09/2020 21:40

Applied in early July - still waiting.

dementedpixie · 01/09/2020 21:41

Depends how the application was done. I think online (using passport picture) is faster than post

lifesalongsong · 01/09/2020 21:43
@lifesalongsong you can apply from 15yrs 9 months
Yes, that's what I'm pointing out to @mummabear1967 who originally said it was 2 months before

dementedpixie · 01/09/2020 21:46

But thats just before their 16th birthday not their 17th birthday, so that's 1year and 3 months beforehand

Yes, using passport photo is much quicker. I know someone who applied the same time as I applied for my son, theirs was back in less than a week. I applied for my sons as soon as it reopened, early June, his licence didn't arrive until the end of July, about 8 weeks, but his passport had expired so couldn't use his passport photo.
Iwantacookie · 01/09/2020 22:02

My ds finally got his back about a week ago after sending all bits off beginning of July. So they are coming through the system.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 01/09/2020 22:19

Great news, glad we did it online now. This sounds promising. If it comes through I’d love to organise a lesson for his birthday.

My grandson applied about first week of June and I think it arrived round about the first of August, so about 8 weeks

He’s been having a double driving lesson a week , at this week will be week 5 so sounds about right

His theory test isn’t till November. The first slot he could get.
Then you can’t book your test till you pass your theory .

It’s disgraceful.

Dowser · 01/09/2020 22:35

We couldn’t use his passport photo either.

ExclamationPerfume · 01/09/2020 23:15

You can ride a moped from 16 so that's why you can apply early. The provisional for driving a car won't start until he is 17.
