Please remember this shop name for me!

Trying to remember the name of a shop really popular in the 90s! It sold items with an African theme, mainly sourced from Africa. Fair trade. Sandstone ornaments that were really popular.

Anyone remember it?

Thank you!

Huckleberry Willow? A treasure trove of stuff in ours, I spent hours in there with my friends in the eighties.

fortysomething78 · 30/08/2020 20:38

We had a shop like this in Edinburgh at the west end of princess street and I used to love going in. Absolutely can not remember the name. Feel like Fair Trade but don't think it was that ?

fortysomething78 · 30/08/2020 20:38

Maybe One World ?

fortysomething78 · 30/08/2020 20:39

www.oneworldshop.co.uk/

fortysomething78 · 30/08/2020 20:40

Think this is the one I was thinking of and still there !

CompleteBarstool · 30/08/2020 20:43

@Kitsmummy

Tumi? In Bath
I was going to say Tumi too.

I seem to remember there was one in Oxford

Fallulah · 30/08/2020 20:49

Cargo?

AdultCat · 30/08/2020 20:52

@Kitsmummy was Tumi in the passage ways up towards New Bond St? I can remember an African type shop there that I used to buy jewellery from!

Squidwitch · 30/08/2020 21:12

Internationale had lots of candles and bundles of twigs and soapstone elephants, they also had a clothing shop. Northampton in the 80s/90s was amazing!

TheFormerPorpentinaScamander · 30/08/2020 21:17

We used to have a shop that sounds like that. Can't remember the name though Confused

Anotherlovelybitofsquirrel · 30/08/2020 21:40

Was it Carpenters?

Kitsmummy · 31/08/2020 08:11

@adultcat yes that's the one!

GoingtotheWinchester · 31/08/2020 13:42

Thank you for all your suggestions! Tumi sounds the closest to it (and I’m from Bristol so one in Bath would make sense!). Definitely not Past Times - it was a more African sounding name than that!

GoingtotheWinchester · 31/08/2020 13:43

Hmm, but Tumi still exists and it definitely doesn’t look like that!

GoingtotheWinchester · 31/08/2020 13:43

So annoying! I’m sure it was a chain because I thought I saw them in London too.

CompleteBarstool · 31/08/2020 13:52

I think the Tumi that exists looks like a different company that does bags and luggage.

The one in Oxford was there late 80s, possibly into the early 90s.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 31/08/2020 13:54

I so miss Past Times! I still have many of their lovely things.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 31/08/2020 14:00

Cargo Homestore?

uncomfortablydumb53 · 31/08/2020 14:05

Cargo Homestore was at the top of Milsom Street, if that helps

onemouseplace · 31/08/2020 14:06

I loved Past Times - yes the stuff was pastiche, but lots of it was really nicely made and completely different to anything else you could get.

GoingtotheWinchester · 31/08/2020 16:11

No definitely wasn’t Cargo! Maybe it was Tumi. I was thinking something more like In Toto but that’s a kitchen company Grin

@Zaphodsotherhead

I had a terrible experience in Shared Earth I was moving into my first home and wanted certain things for decor. I had recently started my first job and was on a decent salary. I have a very obvious disability and everything I tried to buy the server challenged my ability to afford it and looked astounded when the transaction went through. Needless to say I never went back.

hiredandsqueak

Huckleberry Firetrap as my teenage friends and I used to call it? Smile

Three floors of stuff crammed in. Lots I would quite like to give house space to.

Nice people. Wrote them a speculative 'please give me a Saturday job' letter once. Got a Handwritten reply from owner 'sorry, not taking anyone on, but thank you for lovely letter and good luck'. Much more than Boots, M & S etc did.

Au Naturale?

Pumperthepumper · 31/08/2020 16:46

Sorry, just read the OP properly and AN was none of those things!
