Trying to remember the name of a shop really popular in the 90s! It sold items with an African theme, mainly sourced from Africa. Fair trade. Sandstone ornaments that were really popular.

Anyone remember it?

Thank you!

I miss past times too, lovely shop.

PeskyRooks · 30/08/2020 17:50

Early 90s that was!

Shared Earth?

Tearcraft?

MollyAtTheFolly · 30/08/2020 17:53

I loved Evolution - there was one in Cambridge.

HardAsSnails · 30/08/2020 17:53

@Torvean32

Tearcraft?
Do you mean Tear Fund? Did they have shops?
Happynow001 · 30/08/2020 17:54

@Davespecifico

Not an answer to your question but just remembered another shop that was popular then. It sold things like scarves you’d buy for your grandmother and Celtic inspired brooches. Can’t remember it’s name.
Past Times?

Now this is going to bug me because I think I remember it and I think there was one on the King's Road and I think I remember a colourful wooden elephant ornament I got from it. And I don't think it was any of these that have been named already.

DuckyMcDuck · 30/08/2020 19:10

Heals on the Kings Road had a huge colourful elephant in the window for a long time.

The one in Brighton was called Ananda and I think had some more in a chain. Then Oxfam got in on the act and soon such shops were on every High St.

zombiepara · 30/08/2020 19:22

Zanzibar? We had one near ya..

zombiepara · 30/08/2020 19:22

ProperVexed · 30/08/2020 19:24

Oh, I over Pasttimes....super stuff.

Freetodowhatiwant · 30/08/2020 19:24

I remember the Ananda in Brighton. Mind you, Brighton in the 90s was full of shops with African, Asian, anything mystical too.

Kitsmummy · 30/08/2020 19:42

Tumi? In Bath

ncdtoday123 · 30/08/2020 19:49

I was going to suggest Evolution too, I loved that shop

ChicCroissant · 30/08/2020 20:00

I used to buy some good presents from Past Times, they sold a lot of different stuff.

Zaphodsotherhead · 30/08/2020 20:01

I hope it's not Shared Earth. One of my offspring worked for one branch of that shop and was treated absolutely appallingly, for all their talk of being an 'ethical shop'.

squishee · 30/08/2020 20:02

Anokhi? Was more Indian than African though.

I miss Past Times too!

InTheShadowOfTheMushroomCloud · 30/08/2020 20:08

We had a Macouti...

samlovesdilys · 30/08/2020 20:10

I thought of Tumi in Bath as well...
