The rain in Glasgow today.

Where the hell did that come from? The BBC weather claimed it was only going to be light rain showers. So much for that. I know that we get a lot of rain but that was crazy. I was out when it started and driving home was a little scary. The car park started to fill up so quickly and the streets were even worse. I thought that we might get stuck.

TBF it is Glasgow.

Bloodybridget · 27/08/2020 18:25

We have family there and heard that it was Biblical! Hope you have a better day tomorrow.

theotherfossilsister · 27/08/2020 18:25

It was pretty bad in Edinburgh too.

EasilyDelighted · 27/08/2020 18:27

Same in Hampshire just now. Supposed to be showery, rivers running down the road.

Thank you BloodyBridget.

Someone really needs to have words with the BBC Weather Dept.

I double checked when we returned and there were no weather warnings.

Sorry that Edinburgh got the same treatment. Hopefully no one had their home flooded but I saw footage of Great Western Road here and it looked like it was about to start entering shops.

Luckily I live just outside of Glasgow and it wasn't nearly so severe here when we finally got back, but The East End was a mess.

Yes, frustrating forecast. I had arranged some colleagues to visit in my garden in the evening, forecast made it look possible, but it was torrential this afternoon so ended up cancelling! Now the sun will probably come out.

CinnamonCrumble · 27/08/2020 18:57

What a shame Imicola. I hope that you can reschedule soon.

Our camping trip is in jeopardy due to unexpected flash floods!

Dowser · 27/08/2020 19:02

Awful in N Yorks too

Rubychard · 27/08/2020 19:32

bbc forecast is truly shit. Would be better looking out of the window.

randomsabreuse · 27/08/2020 19:34

Bearsden was apparently horrendous, missed Kirkintilloch, like 90% of the bad weather which has seemed weird (convincing me it's the place to live though!!)

AgeLikeWine · 27/08/2020 19:34

Rain in Glasgow. Whatever next?

There's rain and then there's what we experienced earlier. I'm quite familiar with the stuff, being a native Glaswegian, but that was extreme even for us. I'm mostly puzzled though, by the BBC having no mention of a weather warning for Scotland, though they were several for much of the U.K, and their insistence on the forecast being light rain showers, even as we were being utterly deluged.

Poor you. I hope that you don't have to miss out.

Snarky posts on MN, perhaps.

CinnamonCrumble · 27/08/2020 19:49

Rubychard I think you're right. I usually check it before I go anywhere but I'll stick with the window next time.

Rain in Glasgow. Whatever next?

On the contrary, if someone from Glasgow comments on the rain I think “shit, it must have been really bad”.

It felt like we were going to aquaplane off the Kingston Bridge, it was wild.

Arcadia · 27/08/2020 21:32

Scary driving in Devon today

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 27/08/2020 21:40

We had torrential rain in SW London, too. Bucketing down - it was like tropical rain. Went on for quite a long time, too.

MadameBlobby · 27/08/2020 21:43

It was horrific! I was working in my conservatory and the noise was dreadful! My poor 11 year old boy had cycled to school today, he was absolutely saturated when he got home, even his pants were soaked through!

HarryLimeFoxtrot · 27/08/2020 21:46

What time did it rain in Edinburgh? I was there all day until about 17:30 and it was just a bit damp and drizzly.

TitianaTitsling · 27/08/2020 21:52

@36degrees

It felt like we were going to aquaplane off the Kingston Bridge, it was wild.
Have memory of the rain in 2012 driving across Kingston Bridge and doing the same. Absolutely terrified as slid across lanes, convinced would somehow end up in the Clyde!
