The rain in Glasgow today.

Where the hell did that come from? The BBC weather claimed it was only going to be light rain showers. So much for that. I know that we get a lot of rain but that was crazy. I was out when it started and driving home was a little scary. The car park started to fill up so quickly and the streets were even worse. I thought that we might get stuck.

We chose today to go to both Gkasgow AND Edinburgh sigh

Elieza · 27/08/2020 22:03

Yeah it was surprisingly bad today. I realised that when I saw that the back garden had a large puddle in it -that usually only happens after a couple of days worth of rain not just a mornings worth.

I drive to Stirling and there was flooding on the way but not too dangerously flooded in the road I was on, just a slow down and be aware type situation.

The speed of an Audi that went by me though was shocking.
Clearly driven by an asshole who doesn’t think that patches of flooding should warrant any decrease in speeding.
It was shocking.
There’s always one. Puts me off buying an Audi in case people think I’m an asshole driver...

Houses flooded in West Lothian in areas which have never flooded before.
Reports that the Union Canal has burst its banks.

Horses4 · 27/08/2020 22:08

We have it again in SW Edinburgh just now.

CinnamonCrumble · 27/08/2020 22:50

MadameBlobby Poor boy. That's so miserable.

AHintofStyle That's awful. Scary. Flooding is one of my biggest fears.

Our poor pupils still had to do PE outdoors in it in Glasgow. I’m sure there will be complaints. The pupils were just dripping, poor things.

ssd · 27/08/2020 23:09

Dh picked me up from work, it took 25 mins to get from buchanan bus station to m8. Frigging murder. Torrential. I almost wore boots.

WTF? That's insane. I'd go crazy if that happened to my kid.

I think it’s a burn that’s burst it’s banks - not the canal...

But yeah, it’s not somewhere that usually floods - it’s about five minutes walk from me it starts.

When I grow up I want to be employed as a weather forecaster for the BBC.

Only job in the world where you can ne consistently shit/wrong and still get paid...

Fartleking · 27/08/2020 23:26

I use xc weather or accuweather. BBC weather is usually wrong.

LaurieFairyCake · 27/08/2020 23:28

It was biblical in London earlier, our whole garden flooded out to the street, drains couldn't cope at all.

SmokeAndBone · 27/08/2020 23:34

We're in the Borders. It's pouring again here now.

BashfulClam · 27/08/2020 23:43

I was surprised at the rain that fell and as a native Ayrshire west coaster I’m used to heavy rain. At least the builders across from us shut up early as they are bloody loud all day long!

AHintOfStyle · 28/08/2020 00:15

@tabulahrasa

Yeah I've seen you posting before, we live in the same place

PickAChew · 28/08/2020 00:18

Been persisting down in NE England. We had a load if brown outs, earlier this evening, which was worrying.

I figured we must, lol

I know someone who had to be evacuated, she thinks it’s the wee burn... but it’s an awful lot of water for that.

It took me an hour to get home from work in sighthill tonight - and the roads that were still open had patches of water that were deep enough that i was a bit worried my car wasn’t going to make it tbh.

cantstopsinginglittlebabybum · 28/08/2020 00:35

That was something else today.

Wonder if it's going to be as bad again today

Babyroobs · 28/08/2020 01:52

We are on holiday in Northumberland. The rain is shocking. Feel as though we might as well head home early.

LouiseTrees · 28/08/2020 05:23

@CinnamonCrumble

Sorry that Edinburgh got the same treatment. Hopefully no one had their home flooded but I saw footage of Great Western Road here and it looked like it was about to start entering shops.

Luckily I live just outside of Glasgow and it wasn't nearly so severe here when we finally got back, but The East End was a mess.

We were in both Glasgow and Edinburgh. Glasgow rain was definitely worse! Two flooded roads round my way.

What? The head of the PE department needs their head checking.
MistressMounthaven · 28/08/2020 05:52

Glad to hear this - I thought it was only us getting this weather, we had the same on Wed - SW Scotland.

NatashaAlianovaRomanova · 28/08/2020 06:29

We had it in Fife on Tuesday with localised flooding but I was in Glasgow yesterday & it was coming down in sheets.

ChewingTurnips · 28/08/2020 06:49

In Wales here...I get a downpour in the house through light fittings and door frames onto the landing when the drainhole on the roof overfills with torrential rain.
Hoping a pigeon doesn't get stuck down the hole! I put a grill across but the rain couldn't get through quick enough.

DivGirl · 28/08/2020 08:13

I was driving home as it was getting really bad yesterday and the roads were wild. It was the kind of wet where you have to keep your distance from the car in front and the cars at the side because the spray just makes visibility zero.

Luckily no one was making it over 30mph (too busy because half the lanes were flooded/shut).
