Was thinking about this today.

Some just grate.

My most memorable and favourite is the late Michael Winner when he did the Littlejohn show. (Showing my age). I thought he'd come out and be just as vile.

For anyone who missed it, here's the link

What's yours?

Russell Brand. Used to think he was a hyperactive idiot when he did Big Brother's Little Brother/big mouth (or whatever it was). But seeing and hearing him elsewhere made me think he was an intelligent, articulate individual. I doubt many people will agree though.

FOKKYFC · 26/08/2020 23:46

Totally agree about Lionel Blair. He's not necessarily my cup of tea either but my God - he's of that generation of entertainers who'd tap dance until their shoes filled with blood, and go on stage if they were passing a kidney stone. Wouldn't cancel at the eleventh hour with 'exhaustion' or a mystery virus. I respect him hugely.

FOKKYFC · 26/08/2020 23:49

Also - I've got a feeling a few years back he helped haul a suicide attempt up from where he was hanging off a bridge practically by his fingernails. And he must have been well into his 70s, then.

@LaurieFairyCake

I used to really dislike Cheryl Cole

Now I fucking hate her

Grin me too
thedishonthecoffeetable · 27/08/2020 00:38

Peter Andre, just did not rate him at all but last year was at a festival he was performing at and he noticed someone in distress at the front so stopped his set and called for paramedics and stopped the show till she had been treated. Good man

Nikhedonia · 27/08/2020 00:45

@TheQueef

Tyson Fury. I watched the series so I could slate him and fell completely in love Blush
Totally agree. He came across really well on that documentary!
midsomermurderess · 27/08/2020 00:59

I've watched 2 series of The Pilgrimage on the BBC over Easter and found myself liking most of the participants that I though I wouldn't, eg Neil Morrissey, Ed Byrne. You see them much more as the people they are, thoughtful, kind. Kate Bottley remains an a shallow, insufferable pranny though.

SinisterBumFacedCat · 27/08/2020 01:01

I didn’t like Shane Ritchie, then I liked him in EastEnders as Alfie, then I went off him when they messed with the character and I heard someone had a “don’t you know who I am?” argument with him.

However I know he has done a lot for the Huntingdons disease association, actually gone above and beyond. My Dad has HD so this means a lot to me.

AngeloMysterioso · 27/08/2020 01:09

I was halfway down this thread before I realised I’d got Keith Floyd muddled up with Keith Flint.

Imagine the confusion I felt...

BlogTheBlogger · 27/08/2020 01:13

@LaurieFairyCake 😂😂😂

midsomermurderess · 27/08/2020 01:14

I think LaurieFairyCake wins, as it were, the thread though.

BlogTheBlogger · 27/08/2020 01:22

I think Ricky Gervais when he was interviewed about Derek and totally tied the interviewer in knots about D, but in a controlled fair way.
Also John Krasinski I thought would be full of himself, but is lovely ❤️❤️

40somethingJBJ · 27/08/2020 01:31

I would have to say Rylan too. Didn’t get him at all on Xfactor etc, but I’ve met him in person and he’s absolutely lovely, and really genuine.

eveningfalls · 27/08/2020 01:38

Jermain Defoe, always thought he was an idiot until I saw what he did for little Bradley Lowery, so touching.

I also agree with Ricky Gervais.

And yes some celebs provoke the complete opposite feeling @LaurieFairyCake and @kaleishorrid, she just gets worse over time, well she always was, just when the dewy glow of youth diminishes, it all becomes more obvious.

Avebury · 27/08/2020 11:08

Amanda Holden - she gets a lot of bad press on here but she did something incredibly kind for a friend's child who was terminally ill. No publicity, no fuss just pure kindness and compassion.

FOKKYFC · 27/08/2020 11:14

I actually find the vitriol directed at Amanda Holden almost frightening. Can't understand it. I'm actually enjoying the fact that the comments section on Yahoo has been temporarily disabled - she's massively over-exposed on there, granted, but one picture of her looking (incredibly good) in a pair of shorts, and 45 seconds later there'll be 100 comments from men about 'mutton'; the state of her vagina (?); how she shagged Neil Morrissey (what; twenty years ago, now?); her lack of talent; how they'd like to smash her face in. So weird.

Deathraystare · 27/08/2020 12:44

Elderflower14

That is nice to know Elderflower. I always liked him. He could be a bit fierce with the camera man but I believe he was right to direct him as how often have you watched a chef do a tricky thing and the bloody camera is on there face or off to the side. Was watching Jamie Oliver prepare a fish. Could not tell you how he did it as the camera was elsewhere! No it wasn't the recent stuff with Joolz as camera person.

Deathraystare · 27/08/2020 12:45

their face not there!

Deathraystare · 27/08/2020 12:50

Agree with the Cheryl Cole comments!

Vinosaurus · 27/08/2020 12:51

I always (as the vast majority do I suspect) believed Simon Cowell to be an absolute arsehole. But a friend of mine (works in the bizz but very down to earth) told me he was one of the nicest people in TV the other day.

smallandimperfectlyformed · 27/08/2020 13:10

I always thought Michael Winner deserved a lot of respect for setting up the Police Memorial Trust and I used to enjoy his restaurant reviews.

Deathraystare · 27/08/2020 13:14

FOKKYFC

Shaun Williams was great on the family quiz thing. Very clever!

Yes he has always surprised me with his "normalness" and ability to take a joke against himself
purpledagger · 27/08/2020 13:43

This one will be unpopular....Katie Price when she first went in the Jungle and met PA.

She said she wanted to challenge peoples opinions about her. This was at a time when reality TV and only the 3rd series in the Jungle. She tried her best on the challenges and she plaited her hair to keep the bugs out. She really put her mind in to it and I liked that.

I have of course, changed my mind since then.

showmethegin · 27/08/2020 15:17

Christiano Ronaldo. Always thought he was an arrogant, slimy bloke but have since learnt how much he does for charity and there was a lovely video of him making the team bus stop so he could run off it to greet a young fan who was desperate to meet him. He had a hard childhood too.
