Control your fucking dogs

I’m so angry. Yet again someone can’t control their dog and my dc is even more afraid due to some massive dog leaping up at their face and mouthing at them (very young, but big dog).

If they have no recall and keep jumping up at people (and are at the mouthing people stage still) don’t fucking let them be able to get out of control.

Dog ran away from owners, out of the garden and my child ran towards the road. I’m so 😡. Why did I come away feeling like my son was to blame for running and shouting (yes it excites the dog, no I can’t stop him doing it when he’s scared and the dog is chasing him). Yes the dog was playing. No, it makes no difference to my child when the dog can jump higher than he is tall.

Idiots who go to public parks and are already intolerant of others are always going to feel badly done to.

Get a grip people.

You're trying to conflate separate issues Anordinarymum. If every issue is beset by 'but what about', then nothing would ever improve. The issue at hand here is that there is a very real problem with dog owners who do not control their dogs. Deflection is not useful in these circumstances, yet it's something that I see time and again online. It reminds me of when my children were small and I'd be discussing a misdemeanour with one of them, only for them to say, 'yes but what about my brother, he did so and so'? So what? It's not relevant.I'm afraid I don't agree with your 'give and take' statement, because I believe it's built on a false premise.

One of our first walks with our newborn baby we had a bull mastiff run up to us and lunge at my husband and baby. Husband was carrying baby in a sling. The dogs owner had tried to call it back but it didn't listen and he (the owner) got really aggressive when we asked him to put his dog on a lead as he obviously wasn't able to control it. It was so scary. The dog's head was as big as my baby and I had nightmares afterwards about what could have happened. Some people just shouldn't be allowed to have dogs.

Mummy20192 · 25/08/2020 22:44

The same thing happened to my 6yr old at the park.. she was playing with her sister.. the dog sees her running in the park playing and decides to chase her... my poor dd sees this dog running towards her, she gets scared and bolts the dog doesn’t stop chasing.. in shouting at her to stop running but she’s petrified.. the owner doesn’t seem concerned as he’s a puppy!!! I don’t care if it’s a puppy!! The puppy is chasing my child... now my dd refuses to go back to the park

Anordinarymum · 25/08/2020 22:45

Sentry70. What utter rubbish. We all exercise. Some of us have dogs and some of us don't. If I go for a walk with my dogs I am not second class to you.
I am as entitled to be there as you are. I am mindful of how my pets behave.

Having a picnic on the grass is a red flag if you don't like dogs. In the areas where I am allowed to let my dog off the lead I don't like seeing folks sitting eating. There are places for everything. You all just have to look as I do.

yolio · 25/08/2020 22:47

@TheHappening

Dog owners need to realise that not everybody is as indulgent of their dog as they are.

I don't particularly care for dogs, I don't kick them or anything but i'm just not interested. You might think they are cute and sweet and everyone wants to say hi, but actually I have no interest in your dog and would rather you controlled it.

Dog owners (not all) seem to be in a world of their own where everyone is as indulgent with their pets as they are. We're not. I don't want your dog near me, I don't want to be tangled up in your ridiculous long line, I don't want to be covered in bloody dog hair. You made the choice to own a pet, please realise that many of us didn't and have no interest in your animal.

Totally agree with you.

Those of us who have been attacked by dogs off leads are voiceless now. But I am not anymore. If I could stop taking painkillers for the back injury caused by a marauding dog I might be a bit more understanding, but no, not happening anytime soon it seems. Feck them all.

8thArmouredBrigade · 25/08/2020 22:47

‘Get a grip people’.

Maybe owners should get a grip of their dogs.

TinkersTailor · 25/08/2020 22:47

@yolio

TinkersTailor

Thank God I am not alone in thinking the same way as you. Cheers. We people who have been attacked by loose dogs need a voice too.

@yolio They can switch and become aggressive at such a speed it's become necessary to carry something to protect yourself.

Sad, but necessary.

You're definitely not alone!

yolio · 25/08/2020 22:49

@Deadringer

My sister was knocked over by a friendly dog a few weeks ago. Her knee is shattered and she had to get pins in to mend her fractured shin. She has had weeks of pain, the embarassment of having to be lifted on and off the toilet by her sons, has lost out on wages and has huge medical bills. Her leg will never be the same again. The arsehole dog owner pissed off and is unlikely to be seen again in her area. People are just so fucking selfish.
There is not enough anger about this kind of thing. I empathise with your sister completely.
DaughterX · 25/08/2020 22:49

Anordinarymum you didn't answer my question. If I am in a place where dogs are supposedly not permitted off leads, and want to eat on the grass, am I being unreasonable to do so or are you saying i need to drive to a place with a picnic table?

TinkersTailor · 25/08/2020 22:50

Intolerant of other people? No. Intolerant of random, uncontrollable dogs jumping up all over me (and my child)? Yes.

Owners believing that their dog has more rights to enjoy a space than humans is ridiculous.

ErinBrockovich · 25/08/2020 22:51

Thanks at @SBTLove, it’s angood idea and I will try something to help him because he is terrified now and scared to walk through the park to the playground.

Anordinarymum · 25/08/2020 22:51

Lots of dog haters on here tonight. Sure you all have a voice No wonder there is so much animal cruelty in the UK

Nobody said this

Wow that's a leap

TinkersTailor · 25/08/2020 22:54

Ordinary You're being ridiculous now. Not liking animals doesn't equate to abusing them.

I would never hurt a dog (unless, like explained above, it went for me or my child), I dislike them intensely though.

Highfalutinlootin · 25/08/2020 22:55

This issue boils my blood. Despite growing up around dogs and owning them all my life, I've essentially turned into a dog hater because of this issue. I am so tired of off leash, uncontrolled and often dog- or human-aggressive dogs roaming free in public parks. My own dog has been bitten twice by uncontrolled off leash dogs, and I've been jumped on and growled at many times. I am completely sick of owners acting astonished that I am upset and like it's my fault for not wanting their dog to chase me or bite my dog.

Everyone thinks their dog is lovely and capable of no harm. Leash laws exist for a reason.

😂. Your posts get more entertaining as this thread develops. Keep ‘em coming 🐶
Anordinarymum · 25/08/2020 22:56

I have a right to enjoy my walk regardless. I resent having dog haters behaving like I am committing a crime simply by owning a dog.

I am mindful of other people. I go about my business quietly and there are thousands of other people just like me.

I don't like how people behave toward one another these days as if they have a right to be rude. Reading some on the replies on here only goes to prove what I am up against when I am out walking.

And I don't swear either :)

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 25/08/2020 22:56

Control your fucking dogs?? Control your fucking children.

I can't remember how many times children and adults have tried to touch DDog when he has shown them no interest whatsoever, and is invariably actively trying to walk away.

He now has to wear a warning sign to try and put people off because he just doesn't want to be molested touched by strangers #metoo

I own dogs, I have trained dogs and I have worked with dogs. I love dogs. I do not, however, love dogs who knock my 4 year old over because they are out of control and “love children”

However, it’s not the dogs fault, somewhere there is an owner who hasn’t trained them, generally a good few metres away from their uncontrolled dog.

SonjaMorgan · 25/08/2020 22:57

I won't let my dog off the lead as he has rubbish recall. I do see lots of selfish dog owners whilst out with him but I also see lots of stupid parents. My dog doesn't like children, the amount who try to pet him even when he is obviously not happy is crazy. I think I have noticed it more this year as families seem to be out exercising in areas that were previously only used by dog walkers.

Anordinarymum · 25/08/2020 22:58

I would say glad to be of some use but the subject matter is unpleasant to say the very least so I'll bow out while I still have a feather or two in my cap

Fungster · 25/08/2020 22:58

I have a little bottle of hairspray in my pocket and will use it on that dog's eyes no problem anymore.

Then prepare yourself for a good kicking, @yolio, if the dog owners I know are anything to go by.

Toontown · 25/08/2020 22:59

Sadly a bit like other scary things in life you have to accept that there will be arsehole dog owners around foreverand your son at 11 needs to be able to know how to act. shit but true. Just like we have to teach them about all the other shite (muggings, random violence, attempt abduction). You can't control the shite dog owners but you can influence your son's response which isn't working.
