Hello,

I am in the bath with a glass of water 😂 and was thinking about this so mumsnet what would you do?

I'm gonna think about my answer carefully and post it in the comments, I know it's damn near impossible to win the lottery but this is all fun and it's nice to think about fantasies 😂

Hand my notice in at work.

Stay in the area but buy a nicer house. With a teen annexe for Dd.

Set up some sort of charitable fund for deserving individuals and animals.

I’d like to buy my local Members only gym and run that. Keep it as a members gym although probably evict some members. But run it so it’s not focused on profits. More classes, pay the instructors better, more equipment, etc. Of course I’d be guaranteed a space in any class I want!

Buy a massive Motorhome and go travelling.

Cherrysherbet · 21/08/2020 20:26

It would be enough for me to know my kids were financially secure for life. That would be the best thing.

Pumpertrumper · 21/08/2020 20:26

I can honestly say I’d give the majority to charity and good causes. I’d specifically seek our initiatives working to improve to lives of those who will suffer most in the impending recession (children in poor areas).

I’d also set up a fund specifically for the families of NHS workers who lost their lives due to CV infection in the work place (because DH works for NHS)

sycamorecottage · 21/08/2020 20:26

Buy another house, move into it and leave dd behind in this one.

She is an adult, don't worry(!!!) and isn't going to be able to afford anything otherwise, and she really likes this house and I don't.

MintyCedric · 21/08/2020 20:27

Pay a team of the best builders I could find to drop everything and adapt my parents house so that when my dad comes home from respite in a couple of weeks it will be easier to look after him.

Hire a fabulous nurse to help my mum out.

Hand in my notice at work

OLGADEEPOLGA · 21/08/2020 20:28

Do the usual stuff, new house, car etc but I'd also pay for new hospital car parks so families can find a space in a hospital as easily as they can in a shopping centre. I'd also make all the parking free. Hospitals are stressful enough without all the stress of just getting there.

I would donate a lot to Ireland's only children's hospice, which received no direct government funding, shockingly. I would build a beautiful house, sort out certain family member and friends. I would bring my children Inna round the world trip too.

Rockbird · 21/08/2020 20:34

Order a Tesla then go house hunting. Pay everything off, give money to close family etc. Wouldn't quit work though, I really enjoy it.

ilovemydogandmrobama2 · 21/08/2020 20:34

I'd buy Trump Towers and evict Trump

I would bribe and make Trump's tax report public.

Meanwhile, I would hire an ethical hacker and expose all the the dodgy deals done and profits made. US and UK politicians.

I would fund Calais and make sure there was adequate housing and hire a Michelin chef to cook every evening.

And would purchase all the evening slots so I could get a foot massage every evening. At home.

crosser62 · 21/08/2020 20:35

Pay off family mortgages and put a good amount into a bank account for each of them do they can manage it & do what they want with it.

Pay my mortgage, go on holiday for a month while getting contractors in to do my house up from top to bottom while away.

Buy a bigger house. Sell mine.

Buy a static caravan (a big posh one) in north wales for holidays.

Nice new car, family car not sports.

Resign from work.

movinggoalposts · 21/08/2020 20:41

Pay to help all the kids who have the same condition as my son!

Oh and pay off my debts. I’d love to do that 😁

AllMixedUp76 · 21/08/2020 20:41

Well...
I certainly wouldn't be in the bath with a glass of water...

GypsyRoseGarden · 21/08/2020 20:42

99 million .....

5 million in trust fund for each child for when they reach 30 years old (need to learn to work hard first) - I would not tell them they have this

1 million to my best friend and her family

1 million to each of my and husband's siblings and parents

500k million to each niece and nephew and cousin

Pay off mortgage and renovate the house, fully fund the children's educations funds so they don't have any education debt, buy husband the porche he has always wanted, buy children each a reasonable practical second hand (2 or 3 year old) car of their choice (they are too young for fancy new expensive cars)

fully fund retirement fund so that principal is protected and just live off interest

set up art studio to create my art, leave job, run art studio, try to sell some of my art

set up and run organization that helps get abused women away from their abusive, homicidal partners and sets them up in new life (kind of like witness protection but for women and their children)

10 million donation to organization that fights child abuse

10 million donation to organization that fights human trafficking

10 million donation to organization that saves abused animals (with farm/property for them all to live happily if they aren't adopted)

leaves 30 million remaining - invest in very safe places for rainy day

Kelcat9494 · 21/08/2020 20:44

@AllMixedUp76

Well... I certainly wouldn't be in the bath with a glass of water...
I'd be in a bigger bath with a glass of water (cries in pregnancy)

oh, and one more thing, only drink good wine - no more "affordable" wine for me, only the good stuff

BovaryX · 21/08/2020 20:45

@Newjez

I'd buy the houses either side of Priti Patel and fill them with asylum seekers.
@Newjez

I would target the first woman from an ethnic minority background who has held the position of Home Secretary for wanting to enforce border control and prevent illegal immigration. What a great way to spend a lottery win.

SimonJT · 21/08/2020 20:47

@iklboo Union, before I was old and in need of a proper job I played in a RFU Championship team.

Nacreous · 21/08/2020 20:55

I'd buy a bigger house, not crazy big but I'd like a craft room, a study and a spare room, and downstairs I would like a really super kitchen and a utility room/boot room. Then the more ridiculous things I would have would be a private swimming pool (perhaps a normal sized bit for having people over etc with a partial extension to 20m so I could get some decent lengths in). I adore swimming and go most days as it is, I'm sure I would swim every day if I had my own pool. In a proper fantasy land it would have massive folding doors to a terrace outside and a retractable roof. Steam room, sauna and a little gym.

I would buy a Tesla.

Help my parents out so they didn't need to work and could go on lovely holidays.

But I reckon I've probably only spent about £3M so far.

Trust funds for relatives etc, no kids yet but would obviously put enough aside for them as required. That's maybe another £7M.

£10M invested would give an income if a few hundred thousand a year.

That leaves £80M.

So £50M to charity: a chunk to my old college, maybe a million. £5M each to my old schools so they had a reasonable endowment to sort themselves out, maybe more if required. A chunk to our local good saving project, I think £500,000 would probably set them up for life. About the same to a particular local homeless project, which again would really help them out. After that I'm not sure, probably a load to an asylum seekers charity and some to fund better access to community law support so maybe to the CAB? Then a chunk to a Malaria charity I think. Then a sprinkling of £10k-£100k grants to loads of local good causes, we have plenty round here where £10k would pay all their expenses for a whole year and really give them a buffer for their fundraising. I'd probably try to help another 20-50 causes like that.

Then invest the remaining £30ish million while I decided what on earth to do with it, I expect a few more houses elsewhere perhaps :p

ChaoticGouda · 21/08/2020 20:56

Buy a nice house for myself, and a better house for both of my parents.

Donate a good chunk to charitable causes, making sure they go to the right people.

Then go travelling for at least a year, maybe buy a yacht and see what sailing the world feels like.

The rest I'd keep as a back-up, or invest, and use to buy gifts for people I trust. I'd probably have a part time job to give myself enough of a routine too Grin

Nacreous · 21/08/2020 20:56

PS that was a very enjoyable 15 minutes, thanks OP!

Notnowokay · 21/08/2020 21:25

Buy a reasonably large house for myself and kids. Set up excellent child trust funds for all my children. Dh would get 9million for himself. The rest is for me and I’m thinking of buying my parents and siblings a reasonable house each.

I’m also thinking of setting up some scholarships for nhs. Pay for some wells to be dug and maintained overseas. That is enough charity for today.

Mummadeeze · 21/08/2020 21:33

I would love to surprise lots of my friends with massive cheques. My best friend is in her 50s and still renting. She worries about where she will live in her old age. I would absolutely love to buy her a house outright. I don’t own a house either so that would be top of my list of priorities. I have always fantasised about having a conservatory. So a medium sized home with a nice patio garden and a conservatory opening out on to it would fill me with joy. And a big trip to Disneyworld and all the other theme parks, staying in the expensive resort hotels. I love the dreaming part of buying a ticket too :)

Polnm · 21/08/2020 21:36

We have agreed that we would split 50/50 as we have different views about how to spend money

iklboo · 21/08/2020 21:39

@SimonJT - ooh big union fan. I even know all the rules (and shout at the tv). Might I have heard of you? Obviously don't reveal your secret identity!
