Coffee, I have my black tie ready - clean and pressed.

However, I wanted to ask. Is it ok if I wear something else with it? The evenings round here are becoming decidedly chilly?

VictoriousSockPuppet · 05/09/2020 10:14

In honour of this evening:

Never could explain just what was happening to me,
Just one touch of you and I'm a-flame.

70s

Girls scrabble round with no clothes on
To borrow a pound for a condom
If it wasn't for chip fat they'd be frozen
They're not very sensible

Thank you to those that have already put in their nominations. Just a reminder that the deadline is 4pm to give me a chance to sort all winners before 8pm 😊

Phwoar!!! They are some waiters! And with matching puppies! You've gone above and beyond Coffee..

Btw Morning all! I'm practicing my fake smile with hidden gritted teeth for when I'm overlooked for awards I feel I rightly deserve.

Where's @SimplySteveRedux ? Haven't seen her here for a while... she can't miss the awards tonight..

CoffeeBeansGalore · 05/09/2020 10:51

@NeedToKnow101 You can't beat cute puppies Grin. Get your nominations in!

@CoffeeBeansGalore - I didn't realise I actually have to nominate people 😂😂😂 I'll get on it now! 😘

SingingBabooshkaBadly · 05/09/2020 11:44

@VictoriousSockPuppet

Great story needtoknow, and extra kudos points for using the gents.

I note Babooshka makes plenty of references to knowing or having met famous people, but doesn't actually name them

I know what you’re doing with your trash talk @VictoriousSockPuppet - you’re trying to goad me into listing them... well it’s worked.

To be fair, Honey probably will have encountered far more famous faces in one year doing her job than I have in my lifetime but here goes (will update with any more that come to mind later...). You should probably do your list @Honeyroar - or at least the highlights if too many to mention. There’s a good bit of scrapping of the barrel on my list (desperate Blush), especially towards the end...

Mostly met through work - the ones I’ve met in a non work context are in italics. Bold means met more than once.

Paul McCartney
Invited me to sit with him on his throne-y chair thing when everyone else nabbed the chairs near him. On another occasion I embarrassed myself horribly in front of him Blush but I‘m still weighing up whether I can tell you about that.

Sean Hughes Spent a lot of time mocking me and then asked me if I wanted to help him find his hotel room 🤔🤔🤔

Harry Hill He’s a good egg. The only one I think might remember me now if we bumped into each other.

Ricky Gervais Ditto. A misunderstanding on one occasion resulted in my being on the receiving end of his more caustic side. When he realised he’d made a mistake I got the sincerest apology email
you could hope for.

Sophie Thompson

Michael Brandon and Glynis Barber (does anyone remember they were Dempsey and Makepeace back in the 80s and then got married? I somehow managed to accidentally stalk them throughout their honeymoon Blush

Green Gartside Friend’s party, chatted for a while. Did the whole ‘Oh, like Green from Scritti Politti?’ and then took a good ten minutes to realise he actually was green from Scritti Politti. 🙄

Jeremy Healy/Jeremiah from Hayzee Fantayzee This was, admittedly, pre Hayzee Fantayzee and DJ days.

Billy Bragg

Viv Albertine (The Slits)

Julian Cope

Jarvis Cocker (not sure whether he really counts. I sat in a meeting with him but beyond the initial introduction didn’t speak directly to him)

David Byrne (again - only really an introduction- I was a bit too star struck for any further interaction!)

Michael Palin - about as nice as you might imagine.

Richard Ayoade

Jonathan Ross

David Milliband

Ken Livingstone

Miranda Richardson

Sarah Ferguson

Matthew Horne

Jackie Collins

Mark Steele

Myleene Klass

Steve Wright

Grace Dent

I must have been thinking about these awards a bit too much last night as I had a dream I was sitting on the floor with a group of people I don’t know whilst Anthony Head read A Bear Called Paddington to us and I kept thinking ‘damn, they are never going to believe this happened the night before the awards!’ 🤣🤣🤣

If I don’t win at least I might get ‘Most Effort Put In To Trying To Win a Category’ category (or maybe Most Desperate Name-Dropper Blush)

shinynewapple2020 · 05/09/2020 11:50

Ah No! It's Every ones a winner !

Fleamaker123 · 05/09/2020 12:03

Wow SingingBabooshka amazing!

SingingBabooshkaBadly · 05/09/2020 12:12

I just had a job that meant I occasionally crossed paths with people Flea. If you think about it it’s a bit pitiful really that I can reel off a list that includes people I met once years before and could give a blow by blow account of the encounter yet not a single one of them (maybe one or two possible exceptions) would have the faintest idea we’d ever set eyes on each other.

shinynewapple2020 · 05/09/2020 12:13

Help!

How do you PM on the app? I thought it was one of the choices that came up alongside the message (with bookmark, report etc) but it doesn't seem to be there any more ?

CoffeeBeansGalore · 05/09/2020 12:18

@shinynewapple2020 sorry don't use the app but I will message you and then hopefully you can reply 😊

Amazing all the famous people that you have all met ! Literally met no-one, although, I'm not very good with faces and I wouldn't know if I had. Occasionally we've been in a restaurant and DH has spotted someone eg like a news reader , footballer and commented and I wouldn't have had a clue Grin

SingingBabooshkaBadly · 05/09/2020 12:19

I’ve just had a look @shinynewapple2020. I can’t see how you can do it either.

SingingBabooshkaBadly · 05/09/2020 12:23

I know what you mean Shiny. I’m quite short sighted. When I was working in London colleagues were constantly spotting famous people that I’d missed. I like to think I might have appeared super cool and unstar-struck to any celebs in the vicinity Grin

SingingBabooshkaBadly · 05/09/2020 12:28

I’ve just had a thought. I hope this is the inaugural annual awards ceremony. It doesn’t mark the end does it? Does it..? 😢

CoffeeBeansGalore · 05/09/2020 13:30

@SingingBabooshkaBadly Of course it's not the end! This is a delightful celebration which I am hoping will be an annual event!

I'm hoping for every season

VictoriousSockPuppet · 05/09/2020 16:16

Congratulations to everyone's a winner.
I said it was apt.

And the second song? Equally appropriate for tonight

I can post more lyrics?

CoffeeBeansGalore · 05/09/2020 18:34

Any last minute nominations?

OP posts:
NeedToKnow101 · 05/09/2020 18:48

@SingingBabooshkaBadly - that is quite a list! Julian Cope was my first crush (after the Yorkie ad lorry driver) and David Byrne!!! Wowzers!
