Anyone fancy a bit of an overhaul before Christmas thread?

Helgathehairy · 20/08/2020 12:46

Please don’t throw me in the stocks for mentioning Christmas!!

During Covid everything has gone to pot a bit - I’ve put on weight, none of my clothes fit right, hair (and eyebrows) desperately need doing and I’m still a bit hesitant to go somewhere to do something so non-essential. Kids have been home constantly and Self-care & housework has become sporadic (at best!). I have elderly family members who are high risk that I’m helping and I’m wondering about exposure and contact and sometimes my mental health takes a bit of a battering due to demands from them. DH is working and we cut back spending well at the start (mostly due to me not going to the shops)but I’ve stated doing a bit more impulse shopping as shops opened and DHs job is connected to the travel industry and isn’t secure so I really need to stop. Next week my kids are back in school and I really want to get things more organised. I like a deadline to keep me on track.

Here’s my thinking - on Sunday it’s 100 days to 1st December. I really want to arrive at the start of December feeling more organised and less sluggish, calmer and just feeling more ME.

Previously Princessing threads have run on the Style & Beauty board but as this is more of a comprehensive overhaul I thought chat might be a better fit??

This is a previous PrIncessing thread for an idea, there have been lots more, including a pandemic one, but this one was started by me. www.mumsnet.com/Talk/style_and_beauty/2458842-Countdown-to-Christmas-princessing

So anyone interested?

(I’m on my phone, which isn’t great for long threads so apologies if it’s a bit disjointed, I just wanted to just get it down.)

@Carriemac so far just the Netflix programme and their insta. But I have ordered the book on Amazon and it's being shipped and on its way. Can't wait to see it.

It's a bit pricey sorting all the tubs and storage and bits but I'm rationalizing it as once it's tidied and sorted then it's done. And it's only the money I would be spending on shite I don't need anyway so may as well spend it on stuff that will be useful.

SingToTheSky · 22/09/2020 11:43

Snipples just this one, took a photo and copied it as I struggle to create from nothing. I’d looove to be able to paint! Have you heard of Inktober? That’s what made me get back into drawing last year, you could try that to get back in the habit? It’s a prompt word every day.

I totally relate to it being hard to fit everything in. There are so many things I want to do, and need to do, both for my own physical/mental health and other life stuff like working towards a career, keeping the house non-gross, not to mention looking after the DCs and their various educational and social difficulties. Gaaaah. I feel overwhelmed all the time!

Day 70 yoga class just now, really hard though thanks to dizzy spells (always gets worse this time of the month Hmm) but I did pretty much all of it. I think I’ll be spending most of the day laying around now!

Anyone fancy a bit of an overhaul before Christmas thread?
Snipples · 22/09/2020 13:13

Oh wow! That's amazing! Super talented! I was following this watercolour challenge where you're meant to follow a different prompt each day for a month but I only made it up to like day 12 or something before everything else got in the way

Friendsoftheearth · 22/09/2020 15:16

Wow that is impressive!

So doing okay so far, exercise done, weekend organised for a break, tidied the house and now need a salad evening with lime and soda and really will feel I am getting somewhere! :)

Hope everyone is doing okay!

flipperdoda · 22/09/2020 15:48

I'm back on it! Think I've only posted maybe once...but I've been reading everyday in time I probably should have used to sort out everything

I'm currently job hunting and flat hunting (FTB) and wasn't well the last couple of days so everything's got a bit on top of me. I've decided this just means I have easy wins this evening as e.g. two clothes horses worth of clothes in the kitchen is a quick but very obvious job to get done Grin

I've also finally decided to just chuck various makeup/cosmetics my ex got me. I looked into how to recycle them and essentially unless they're unopened there's no options. Which seems rubbish and I'm uncomfortable just chucking, but I don't use the stuff! May send a pic to friends first and see if anyone wants to take anything.

Snipples · 23/09/2020 08:24

Oh decluttering cosmetics is a good one. I'm def a bit of a beauty hoarder. No pint keeping the stuff if you never wear it.

Day 70 - I'm feeling quite pleased this morning. Finally tipped the scales down into the next stone bracket and only one pound to go until I've officially lost a stone! Aiming for another stone off by Christmas (14 weeks away so very doable).

Going to go for a swim later on today.

Curlymarbs · 23/09/2020 08:38

Day 70 - I think have been trying to keep track in my head! Yoga done this morning. Mainly been intermittent fasting most days and making sure I get a walk in. Need to start on the clothes and cosmetic de clutter at somepoint before the weekend. Homework up to date for my evening class so all in all ticking on ok - although time is going scarily quickly isn’t it

Solongtoshort · 23/09/2020 09:53

Hi ladies, What day is it? been a bit absent l have just worked 6 straight day and no one wants to read my posting about that believe me, been eventful with my mouth healing and the fact l got the most impressive period ever and considering l have had the coil for nearly 2 years l wasn’t impressed to be reminded of the pain and yuck of it all.

Anyway l have still managed to do my exercises but the following day in work is always horrendous going up the stairs. I have just been and weighed in l have lots 16 lb so far and l have dropped a size in clothes too. Still taking my vitamins. I am amazed how well my savings are working out and l have been so much better at being organised and keeping everything ticking over with no dramas. I have my glasses now so l can read to my hearts content.Bed time has been around 10.30-11pm and l feel a lot better for it.

The bits l have fell behind on are l didn’t do Yoga after 2 weeks as my ds lost interest and l we are still wasting a lot of food, which l really hate.

Anyway glad to see you are all getting on and the talents of @SingToTheSky which l could only dream of drawing and lm still jealous of all you swimmers, rumour has it our swimming pool isn’t going to reopen so may need to go two towns over from now on.

SingToTheSky · 23/09/2020 11:32

Thanks for the picture love 😳💐 I find it a bit scary to share stuff but I’m trying to push myself a bit.

Day 69 (I think?!) just had therapy. Got quite emotional as talking about confidence and how it holds me back. My therapist is absolutely brilliant. I really wish it was proper sessions instead of zoom though TBH.

I didn’t even get round to telling her the other thing I did for myself today... I sent a picture off for a display. It’s just an open thing for anyone who is autistic, so it’s not like they’d say no, but still had so much fear about them hating it etc. So sending it is a big step for me!

Snipples · 23/09/2020 13:49

Well done @SingToTheSky that's a huge step! And I'm sure they'd be delighted to have work like yours.

@Solongtoshort 16lbs is amazing! Well done! It's so good when you can see the difference in your clothes too. I feel like my clothes are fitting me better now but still have a good bit of work to do.

EastofEdna · 23/09/2020 16:10

Day 71 & Day 70

Goal Number One A pound a week. Am very envious of everyone's weight losses up thread! Lovely news and an incentive to crack on. I am 'stuck' but am still logging on MFP.

Goal Number Two 6 x exercise sessions per week. The weather is rubbish here to get out on the bike, but yoga tonight will be session number 2. Am contemplating missing the gym tomorrow, but that feels a rocky road and I will regret it if the gym closes due to C-19 new rules, and I've paid upfront for the session.

Goal Number Three Slowly going through books to recycle.

Was looking online at Inktober, I quite fancy doing an art challenge.

userxx · 23/09/2020 16:16

I'm in.

aristo · 23/09/2020 16:17

Hi everyone, new here but not to mumsnet.

Currently in a bit of a health kick after a few months of overindulging due to boredom and depression.

Current routine is intermittent fasting; 18:6 most days some days will be 16:8 and some days will be 20:4.

I'm also trying to keep my calories down to 1300 per day, weekends will be more but hoping the fasting will counter some of that.

Will be trying to work out three times a week, mainly HIIT type workouts.

Wanting to lose a stone.

didireallysaythat · 23/09/2020 19:03

I'm back. My self care has involved going to see the GP about HRT and buying some nice moisturiser as I'm now officially old. Still getting 10k steps a day, not really getting anywhere with weight loss, only having one g&t a week (Saturday evenings) and I've put three things on eBay (starting slowly with the plan to declutter the wardrobe).

Baby steps

Snipples · 24/09/2020 10:29

Gosh @aristo is it not super hard to stick to 1300 cals a day? I'm trying to do 1500 and that's hard enough (I'm able to eat more than that by exercising otherwise I feel half starved!)

Day 69 - sorting out lots of little jobs today. Ikea coming with my canisters etc for the kitchen. Getting my nails and brows done today. Long overdue! So that's my self care for today done.

EastofEdna · 24/09/2020 14:24

Day 69

Goal Number One A pound a week, end goal date is 15th January for me (hopefully off on holiday). I did finally lose last week's pound today.

Goal Number Two 6 x exercise sessions per week. Two sessions down this week. Yoga was cancelled last night, so I went to bed early instead! Did go to the gym this morning, I thought if lock down restrictions were to become stricter I would kick myself for missing my session.

Goal Number Three Slowly going through books to recycle.

Victory for the day: I have tidied my work desk

Keep going.

vangoghing · 24/09/2020 15:56

Achievement for this week - I have written an actual physical list of my "life overhaul" and I am fully intending on sticking to it.

Goals 1, 2 and 3 immediately scuppered by me suddenly and unexpectedly losing my job this week.

Goal 4 - make £500 from selling stuff around the house - complete!

Friendsoftheearth · 24/09/2020 18:28

So I finally started writing my book!! This was not even on my list, but the book has been brewing for nearly three years, and now it is just pouring out.

Due to my writing there was no exercise, but I did enjoy a salad with a friend (no wine, a first for us!) and have had a good day in terms of food consumption. Decluttering is now finished at long last.

Going to try not to have a sneaky G&T as we are away from tomorrow for a few days.

Everyone is doing really well!

SingToTheSky · 24/09/2020 21:20

That’s amazing friends! Well done! I have had a half formed idea for years but it’s never got past that.

Van that absolutely sucks about losing your job, I’m sorry :(

Day 68
Actually did some studying! Got most of my assignment done. Also played a bit of piano.

SingToTheSky · 25/09/2020 22:07

Day 67
Aqua fit class - such a laugh. But harder work than I remember!
Also submitted one of my assignments and worked a bit more on the next one, emailed my work coach about some potential volunteering and finally emailed my tutor which I’d been procrastinating about, so quite a good day in terms of working towards my future :)

I have also set my fast timer for the first time in a few weeks - I was still doing well without needing the timer (just remembering to not eat after dinner and not rush to eat breakfast) but habits have crept back in already and my overall diet has got so much worse again.

vangoghing · 26/09/2020 21:03

Day 68!

Made a further £100 selling stuff I had lying about the house, so have now 200% exceeded goal...4?

Have two interviews next week for new jobs, one of which I'm beyond excited for so let's all keep our fingers crossed.

How is everyone else doing?

SingToTheSky · 27/09/2020 00:04

Day 66 - we are a third of the way through!
Did a bit of tidying and decluttering. Had a family visit which was nice as it would’ve been a long lonely day otherwise. Must study tomorrow.

EastofEdna · 27/09/2020 09:08

Day 66

Goal Number One A pound a week, end goal date is 15th January for me (holiday). I am now half a stone down and a tantalising 6 oz away from dropping into a new stone number.... I have been feeling a bit crappy since Thursday, had a day of comfort food and then slept for 12 hours Fri night - Sat morning.

Goal Number Two 6 x exercise sessions per week. Just the two gym sessions this week. A bit of remote yoga with the niece. I think my yoga class may be cancelled - or hopefully just split down into 2 groups - as there are usually about 8-10 in the class.

Goal Number Three Slowly going through books to recycle. All cookery books are now in the kitchen. Housework yesterday was a dream because of all the decluttering we've already done. Trip to the tip today.

Have a good Sunday.

Snipples · 27/09/2020 16:03

Day 68 - Managed to sort steps and keep cals low but didn't achieve a great deal else. Ikea containers arrived and are completely the wrong size which is annoying.

Day 67 - Walked loads today and went to ikea to buy the items I needed instead of relying on online shopping (always seem to get the measurements completely wrong when that happens). Then came home and had a very productive afternoon purging the kitchen of crap and tidying the cupboards. Still a work in progress but they already look tonnes better and loads more organised.

Day 66 - went for a walk earlier so have hit steps. Bought self some hand weights and a skipping rope for the house. Have lost a few more pounds bringing me to a total of 16lbs lost. Aiming for another stone by Christmas which is definitely doable.

DH has decided to do Stoptober and I will also do this to support him. This will def help us break some bad habits during the week!

Feeling very motivated to keep up the momentum before our 1 December deadline.

Snipples · 27/09/2020 16:28

Meant to add - I'm going to try and challenge myself to as close to zero spend (except for coffees) when I go out as really racking up the spends lately. Not much point decluttering and then recluttering!
