Anyone fancy a bit of an overhaul before Christmas thread?

Please don’t throw me in the stocks for mentioning Christmas!!

During Covid everything has gone to pot a bit - I’ve put on weight, none of my clothes fit right, hair (and eyebrows) desperately need doing and I’m still a bit hesitant to go somewhere to do something so non-essential. Kids have been home constantly and Self-care & housework has become sporadic (at best!). I have elderly family members who are high risk that I’m helping and I’m wondering about exposure and contact and sometimes my mental health takes a bit of a battering due to demands from them. DH is working and we cut back spending well at the start (mostly due to me not going to the shops)but I’ve stated doing a bit more impulse shopping as shops opened and DHs job is connected to the travel industry and isn’t secure so I really need to stop. Next week my kids are back in school and I really want to get things more organised. I like a deadline to keep me on track.

Here’s my thinking - on Sunday it’s 100 days to 1st December. I really want to arrive at the start of December feeling more organised and less sluggish, calmer and just feeling more ME.

Previously Princessing threads have run on the Style & Beauty board but as this is more of a comprehensive overhaul I thought chat might be a better fit??

This is a previous PrIncessing thread for an idea, there have been lots more, including a pandemic one, but this one was started by me. www.mumsnet.com/Talk/style_and_beauty/2458842-Countdown-to-Christmas-princessing

So anyone interested?

(I’m on my phone, which isn’t great for long threads so apologies if it’s a bit disjointed, I just wanted to just get it down.)

Day 79

Forgot to weigh myself this morning so no idea if I’ve lost although I did weigh myself mid week and I’d lost another 1lb but I have had a couple of evenings where I’ve been snacking on crisps since so fingers crossed I haven’t put it back on.

Went for my first swim this week since March, did 500 metres knackered afterwards. Need to book another slot for this week, hoping to do 600 metres this week.

Got my hair cut and coloured this week too - definitely stating to feel better about myself. Need to repaint my nails this week.
Ordered DD new winter coat and wellies and thinking about getting myself some new wellies before the weather turns.

@Snipples. Well done swimming that distance, that’s my eventual aim but right now I feel knackered just thinking about it Smile.

Snipples · 14/09/2020 05:40

Well done on the weight loss so far @Deelish75

I'm not a natural "exercise" person so I've had to really force myself. I started off doing 300/400 m and then just built it up. And also very much depends on mood I'm in on the day, so some days easier to go longer distances in a shorter time and some days it's just not going to happen. I try and do a minimum of 600 m now at least and anything after that is a bonus.

The pool I was at yesterday was 40m instead of 20m so made it easier to rack up longer distances as couldn't stop!

@SydneyCarton - where are the 30 day declutterInfo challenges from? Please can you share - I could do with the prompts. Thanks

SydneyCarton · 14/09/2020 06:42

@Snipples

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/housekeeping/3953781-30-Day-Decluttering-Challenge

I got the prompts from this thread in Housekeeping, but there are plenty of other similar ones via Google. I’ve adapted some of them (I don’t have a laundry room!) and might swap some around or substitute them (I’ll probably leave sorting through the children’s clothes until October once the warm weather is done and I can pack away the summer stuff). Hope it helps Smile

Snipples · 14/09/2020 06:47

Thanks so much!

Day 78

New week, new goals. Final day of workmen in the house today; it will be nice not to have them traipsing in and out.

Goal Number One A pound a week until 15 January. Last week's pound stayed off, so I need to meal plan for the week. I measured myself and have lost 5 inches. I've printed off all my daily food logs from MFP for the last two weeks and worked out which days to repeat; out of 14 days there are only 5 days that I will repeat! Goal is to shop with this in mind and stick to them. No ice-cream in the park when picking up the Niece from school.

Goal Number Two 6 x exercise sessions per week. All booked. First gym session tomorrow.

Goal Number Three Sort out clothes. The ironing board is up and there is a pile to be ironed and a pile to be altered. Today's goal is to iron tops and sort out underwear drawer.

Keep going, I am enjoying reading what everyone else is up to.

Snipples · 14/09/2020 20:09

Day 78 - cleared and tidy the landing upstairs into a wee reading snug. It looks sooooo much better and I'm really pleased as it's been a dumping ground for months.

I need to properly work through the stuff as I just plonked it in the spare room but will do this in stages this week.

Also swam 520m before baby sensory with DD.

Solongtoshort · 14/09/2020 21:56

Day 78- what a day. Ate well, vitamins taken my c25k and today was day 3 of the 30 day shred. I got a bit of abuse today a man shouted at me “ your to fat to run lard arse” . Now l am one of those people who usually gets upset about things like that and think of a comeback at 4am 3 days later. One jumped right in to my mind obviously been watching to much Towie or something l shouted back “ and too fabulous to care what you think” and carried on running. Now l don’t run that fast and no way do l think l am fabulous but my god l was amazed with myself.

I also got all my Christmas cards and exchanged my work pants for a smaller size. I decided to get the kids more school trousers and pinafores so l don’t have to do a midweek wash. Lunch’s are ready for the next two days and so are evening meals. There was me saying yesterday l want to have two days off doing nothing.

I feel very productive and pleased l have achieved something.

Snipples · 15/09/2020 05:01

Well done @Solongtoshort! And god I cannot believe what a monument twat that man was. That's disgusting to be subjected to heckling and taunts on a run. Takes serious gumption to face someone like that down and call them out on it so well done you!

I hope he thinks on his sins a bit before opening his mouth next time.

Friendsoftheearth · 15/09/2020 11:40

solong Good for you - keep going!!

I am abit of a straggler this week with so much work, and school runs and stress, but I am jumping back on today!!

Goal one: salad and water
Goal two: Bath and soda on ice
Goal three: Bathroom cupboards to complete
Goal: birthday organisation

And rest, I am getting super tired, so taking time out to sit in the autumn sunshine today and relax (haven't stopped since the lockdown began and I am feeling it now, six months on) Even Boris looks in better shape than me these days Grin

EastofEdna · 15/09/2020 15:29

Day 78

Today is a bit 'meh'. Keep opening the fridge and closing it..

Goal Number One A pound a week until 15 January. Meals all planned. I am feeling picky today - I keep telling myself it is work stress not hunger.

Goal Number Two 6 x exercise sessions per week. Gym session this morning, thought I was swimming tonight but that is Fri/Sat/Sun. Organised a bike ride with a friend for weekend.

Goal Number Three Sort out clothes. Yesterday's ironing and sorting done. Today is the gym kit drawer.

One more meeting to be done today and the niece is due shortly, so she will definitely cheer me up.

Rowgtfc72 · 15/09/2020 18:19

Wow! You're all very organised!

I'm managing daily vits, water and moisturizer.

Not snacking either which is a miracle.

Currently tiling the bathroom. We moved in five years ago and basically slapped a bit of paint about. Looking forward to a bathroom that isn't falling apart or a mish mash of half finished jobs.

Snipples · 15/09/2020 19:08

I've had a very meh day too here.

Day 78 - feeling shattered today so no exercise, but I have continued with the decluttering. Sorted the drawers in the living room tonight while watching The Home Edit (love this new show!). I'm going for a big walk tomorrow so that will help kick the exercise off again.

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 15/09/2020 21:44

Feeling positive today. Finally booked a builder which means house will soon be tidier.
Threw away all my old raggedy clothes as part of my goal to look after myself more and to smarten up.
Made a phone call I was dreading and resisted chocolate brownies. Little things but moving in the right direction.

EastofEdna · 16/09/2020 09:40

Day 77

Will have a better day today. Hopefully the ness will be gone for all of us.

Goal Number One A pound a week until 15 January. Call in 5 minutes that was causing the pickiness and stress yesterday - hopefully all will get sorted and on we go. I did go outside my meal plan but I am a couple of ounces down today.

Goal Number Two 6 x exercise sessions per week. Bike ride this morning and yoga tonight. I have to cycle 6 miles a day to hit my miles for refugees target by end of month. (or 6 miles of anything)

Goal Number Three Sort out clothes. Today is ordering tops into order of fit and chucking anything that I don't like; or taking to recycling.

Have a good day everyone.

Solongtoshort · 16/09/2020 15:06

Day78- was at work yesterday so just steps and being all prepared for the day, also went food shopping and only spent £47 as l has a look at what l needed first.

Day 77 -done my running and shred, had a tooth out and lm doing nothing for the rest of the day. I’m so tired today and in pain. Lost 3lb when l weighed in. In pain and feeling sorry for myself.

I will bounce back tomorrow.

Allmyfavouritepeople · 16/09/2020 19:09

Day 77:

Finally lost a whole lb which is the one I put on last week. Now going for at least half a lb for Friday. Fingers crossed!

We now also have dining chairs, been eating on an armchair at the table for months, just couldn't decide what would go and then saw some on a facebook selling post that were ideal and just stopped the indecision!

Snipples · 16/09/2020 19:46

Well done on the weight loss ladies!

Day 77 - went for a walk today so that's helped burn a few calories. I picked up a bunch of acrylic storage boxes to get my house organised. Will be using for my wardrobe and make up table. Have ordered new clothes hangers to finish wardrobes off and then a few bits from ikea to help get the kitchen sorted.

Weighed self and have dropped the couple of pounds that I put on so that's good. Can't go swimming for three days as had my Botox done today but will get back on it after weekend. A bit self indulgent but makes me feel better.

Friendsoftheearth · 16/09/2020 20:21

Is it just me or has the thread shrunk as the weeks have trundled by! Is op coming back? I hope so as she started this lovely thread.

Today: Bought and organised next years birthday cards should we have a second wave I am ready!

All christmas presents now done, apart from dc main gifts which I will wait to do at the last minute, as they often change their mind.

Birthday gifts ready for busy month in the next few weeks

Walked for miles, so exercised now two days in a row.

Spent two hours in the garden, doing absolutely nothing! It was silent even the birds seem to have flown to pastures new for the autumn. I think I will try and relax more often, as it was really time well spent. Otherwise I feel like I am on a treadmill.

Friendsoftheearth · 16/09/2020 20:21

Good luck everyone!

RunningKatie · 16/09/2020 20:40

I dropped off 10 days ago as DH's mental health nosedived.
I'm still doing the 10k steps a day- so yay!
Meal planning more again, now need to make meals more healthy again.
I was aiming to do TeamTOMM around the house, not quite there yet and I know it would help massively.
I am trying to read daily, managed to order some library books. Read 3, 2 to go.

Friendsoftheearth · 17/09/2020 06:23

I hope things are better for him now running Flowers

I did well yesterday, so today I am hoping:

Complete fitness routine
16/8 salads
Down time = Relax in the garden and read whilst I still can
Prepare new outfits for work - long overdue
Wrap presents

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 17/09/2020 07:20

I'm still here. Still dieting but can't progress with house until builder has been and can't progress with Christmas prep until payday. So life is a bit boring and stuck temporarily. Just plodding on really.

Snipples · 17/09/2020 11:43

Day 76 - not much to report here today. Went to messy play with toddler earlier but aside from that have been home all day.

Trying to tidy bits and bobs but difficult as kids sleeping at different times so not really had any free time.

Just doing little bits as I get the chance so it's taking ages.

EastofEdna · 17/09/2020 11:44

Day 76: still here too; we are very quiet, but the countdown is keeping me on track and all our victories big and small.

Goal Number One A pound a week until 15 January. Hoping to hit the pound down by Sunday.

Goal Number Two 6 x exercise sessions per week. I have 4 sessions done. I struggled in gym session this morning, I felt like I had zero energy in the tank, but got it done. I might nip out for a bike ride at lunch time to get some miles in and chip away at the 108 I am aiming for by end of Sept.

Goal Number Three Sort out clothes. Tops done yesterday, tried some on - bit of a reality check. Some I was a bit what was I thinking?! I might ebay them, if I can be bothered.....

Onwards.
