Anyone fancy a bit of an overhaul before Christmas thread?

Helgathehairy · 20/08/2020 12:46

Please don’t throw me in the stocks for mentioning Christmas!!

During Covid everything has gone to pot a bit - I’ve put on weight, none of my clothes fit right, hair (and eyebrows) desperately need doing and I’m still a bit hesitant to go somewhere to do something so non-essential. Kids have been home constantly and Self-care & housework has become sporadic (at best!). I have elderly family members who are high risk that I’m helping and I’m wondering about exposure and contact and sometimes my mental health takes a bit of a battering due to demands from them. DH is working and we cut back spending well at the start (mostly due to me not going to the shops)but I’ve stated doing a bit more impulse shopping as shops opened and DHs job is connected to the travel industry and isn’t secure so I really need to stop. Next week my kids are back in school and I really want to get things more organised. I like a deadline to keep me on track.

Here’s my thinking - on Sunday it’s 100 days to 1st December. I really want to arrive at the start of December feeling more organised and less sluggish, calmer and just feeling more ME.

Previously Princessing threads have run on the Style & Beauty board but as this is more of a comprehensive overhaul I thought chat might be a better fit??

This is a previous PrIncessing thread for an idea, there have been lots more, including a pandemic one, but this one was started by me. www.mumsnet.com/Talk/style_and_beauty/2458842-Countdown-to-Christmas-princessing

So anyone interested?

(I’m on my phone, which isn’t great for long threads so apologies if it’s a bit disjointed, I just wanted to just get it down.)

I had underestimated just how tiring and overwhelming getting dc back to school, back to work was going to be. All the changes, sleepless nights and nerves have really had a detrimental effect on my commitment to our lovely thread. SO I am back on board! And am so impresses with everyone so far, I am taking some inspiration from your posts!

Goal One: exercise today
Goat Two: water and salad
Goal Three: soda and lime on ice instead of a much wanted G&T

Started therapy which has been draining and sad and floored me, but it is still part of my goals.

Dc back at school and intend to stay organised, calm and on top of things on that front.

Now off to do the exercise, have a good day everyone!

EastofEdna · 09/09/2020 14:12

Day 83

Goal Number One Stick to food plan and log all food on MFP for seven days: Day 3 today

Goal Number Two 6 sessions x week. Yoga tonight will make 2 sessions this week. I still ‘owe’ myself 2 sessions from last week. Still can’t get a bloody spinning class booked. I am sleeping phenomenally well with the exercise I am getting.

Goal Number Three Writing/Translating 15 mins per day; Done for the day.

Goal Number Four I have optimistically booked a holiday in January. It is going to be very active and I will be doing an activity which I have wanted to do for a very long time and it does need a certain level of fitness.. So my fourth goal is going to be to lose a pound a week until the C-Word; and to hope the other C-Word doesn’t scupper my plans.

Am so happy to see all the yoga and running on our thread and all those small victories!

Day 83:

I am so proud of myself! This thread has been such a motivator along with some outside motivation and my house is bloody sparkling. This time last year I was so sick of my house it was causing me real upset and now I want to invite everyone in! It's nothing special and still needs a lot doing but there's so much I like about it now. Plus I'm motivated to do it hence putting up a new pair of curtains at 8PM tonight.

I'm weighing on Friday but am anticipating a maintain again.
Sticking to only eating during the hours of 12-8 but it's a load of junk in those hours.

Goal for tomorrow
Eat some fruit!

Friendsoftheearth · 10/09/2020 06:38

First day back at school, spent all day decompressing. I just could not get over the fact I could hear silence. It was so completely shocking to be on my own for the first time in half a year I managed precisely nothing whatsoever.

Had a G&T instead of lime and soda, and celebrated the fact that my kids are back where they belong and when the shock of their return eases I will finally have time to spring clean my house, have a spa day, exercise without someone laughing at me and enjoy some peace!

Goal for today: stretching
Goal two: move from G&T back to lime and ice
Goal three: enjoy the silence and bird song

Day 82 - went for a quick walk round the block before and after my swim today which burned an extra 200cals. So that's good for heading into the weekend.

Bit frustrated that I'm sticking at the same weight but I guess maintaining is still progress.

On the house front, need to really push self to tackle it room by room. Feel like can't really do it when kids are awake and have zero energy when toddler is in bed but that's just an excuse really. Need to tackle it little by little or it'll not get done.

Has anyone seen there's a new program on Netflix called the home edit - looks like it's all about tidying and decluttering - might be worth a watch to inspire us!

EastofEdna · 10/09/2020 14:01

Day 82

Goal Number One Stick to food plan and log all food on MFP for seven days: Day 4 today.

Goal Number Two 6 x exercise sessions per week. Yoga last night and after bragging about exercise = good sleep, I had the worst night’s sleep ever. I think I found my edge and went over the bloody thing. Had a gym session this morning. 2 swims booked and finally thanks to my sleepness night managed to get a spin class booked as they were released for next week.

Goal Number Three Writing/Translating 15 mins per day; Done for the day.

Goal Number Four A pound a week until 15 January. We will see Saturday how that has gone! Although it has been pretty static for the last couple of weeks.

didireallysaythat · 10/09/2020 17:55

Quick check in - found that I can get 7500 steps in between 8:50 and 9:50 which works as my first mtgs are usually until 10. And then the 2500 steps left to get don't seem to be such an unreachable goal. Once the weather turns it won't be so easy.

Painted my nails and I've been scrubbing my feet, ready for a footner or something similar this weekend.

Oh and I'm getting my eye tested and this time I'm going to try and make my glasses a feature.

SydneyCarton · 10/09/2020 19:27

Day 82: my day off with the two year old but DD2 only doing mornings at school at the moment so it seems only five minutes after dropping them both off we are back for DD2 at midday and DD1 at three. No real decluttering or tidying done as a result 🙄

Yesterday though I did manage to cut and file my nails although not actually got round to painting them. I’ll plan to do that tonight and go into the weekend looking a bit polished.

SingToTheSky · 10/09/2020 20:15

Day 83 walked to nursery and back (was surprised how much easier I found it), then walked to the gym in the evening as DS had taekwondo, and while he was in there I did a gym session in which I tried a new machine so felt good about that. Also had a conversation with an autism work coach, who was absolutely lovely and made me feel more positive. In the evening I stayed up late as I was pretty peopled out, but I wrote my journal for the first time in months.

Day 82 had lots of time doing nothing but watching comedy. I need a lot of time like that lately. Also made myself play piano for the first time in several months - I’ve lost confidence in so many things lately.

kitschplease · 10/09/2020 22:27

Today I researched and bought skincare products. Now I just have to remember to actually use them!

SydneyCarton · 11/09/2020 06:50

didireallysaythat I finally got round to having an eye test in July after three years 😳 and ticked off another bit of life admin yesterday by ordering new glasses. Glasses Direct online have 40% off at the moment (code is AUTUMN). It’s the first time I’ve used them but two pairs of specs with ultra thin lenses for sixty quid seemed pretty good Smile

GreekOddess · 11/09/2020 08:29

The first and most important thing for me to tackle is my weight. I got on the scales this morning and I have put on a stone since lockdown! Started slimming world today with the aim of losing 3 stone.

Friendsoftheearth · 11/09/2020 09:42

Checking in!

Yesterday I managed to scrub the grouting and the whole kitchen floor is now gleaming. For months the kitchen has been getting me down as it does need doing quite often. It is a major job so pleased it is finished
Failed on the wine front, as dh decided we were having a little party - I am not feeling so fresh and great today, and I feel annoyed for saying yes, when I should have said no. Already got my mocktails ready for this evening - lesson learnt.

Today:
Bathroom cupboards
Exercise
Friday night mocktails
Pick up a salad for this evening

Good luck everyone!

Snipples · 11/09/2020 13:18

Well done on the kitchen! I love it when you can tick a nice job off the to do list!

Day 81 - went for a walk this morning as both kids decided to wake at 6am 🤨

Did a big shop of pjs and bits for kids for Christmas and to replenish clothes we've donated as too small.

Jealous of everyone's progress on the home front as not made much ~any really~ here. Need to sort as almost 20% through our 100 days now!

Solongtoshort · 11/09/2020 13:31

Day 82- felt like crap today got my eyes tested and done nothing, felt crap, ate crap and my day was crap.

Went for my eye test and found l needed glasses which l knew otherwise l wouldn’t of booked it, she found a cyst inside my eye and l have been referred to the hospital for. My eye hadn’t been sore at all but as soon as she said it must be sore it was, god knows how long it has been there for and not bothered me, it’s nothing to worry about but if it grows over time it will effect my vision. Had my eye brows and lashes done to.

Day 81- woke up in a much better mood, started my day of eating properly have done my c25k and day one of 30 day shred.

Planned all my food and had a general tidy and washing. My sleep routine is working wonders too.

Hope your all doing well l like reading the updates. This is the longest l have stuck to a plan so l am banking on another 10 days before anyone shouts get your arse in gear girl!!!!

Have a nice day.

Friendsoftheearth · 11/09/2020 13:52

20% through our 100 days ??????
That has made me panic abit snipples as I need to get some serious exercise done, so thank you for putting the rocket into the day.
And there I was thinking we had AGES!!! Grin

A walk at dawn and christmas planning and shopping is def progress.
I seem to be excelling in one area at the detriment of another, but we only have so many hours in a day, so maybe I should prioritise (and rope in some help too)

Allmyfavouritepeople · 11/09/2020 22:03

I ate some fruit! ✅

Well I've been sticking to my fast for those 20 days and put on a pound. This is why I stopped trying to lose weight and just eat intuitively but that just led to another stone gain so ??? Going round in circles here. Seriously considering joining park run but I hate running.

Having the weekend off DIY jobs but this weekend's list is:
Clean the car
Bake
Get back on top of laundry
Eat healthily sat and sun.

Snipples · 12/09/2020 12:30

Wooo one fifth of the way through!

Day 80 - pool today with kids but didn't manage to swim any lengths as toddler out of sorts and being demanding. Feeling a bit delicate as was out last night also so no exercise today. Will keep cals down instead so at least some progress.

Aim for this week is to sort upstairs landing as currently full of crap. After that will tackle dining room.

EastofEdna · 12/09/2020 15:31

Day 81/80

Goal Number One Stick to food plan and log all food on MFP for seven days: Day 6 today completed.

Goal Number Two 6 x exercise sessions per week. 5 done this week, need to start getting out on bike to build up miles. Did 5K run this morning. I say run, it was more of a plod. Park run returns end of October and I want to go back and not always be the last one in. Swim tomorrow. Contemplating cycling there and back which would catch me up with the 2 sessions I 'owe' myself from last week.

Goal Number Three Writing/Translating 15 mins per day; Done for the day. Has made me realise how little real news I actually watch.

Goal Number Four A pound a week until 15 January. no movement this week. Clothes are feeling looser though.

Keep going, baby steps.

Solongtoshort · 13/09/2020 11:38

Day 80- today was full on l made sure all uniforms were ironed for the next week so l don’t get caught behind. Ordered two more pinafores and trousers for uniform so we have 4 fresh ones a week as they wear the PE kits one day a week so that will cut a job down.

I did the c25k again which finishes week 3 and then the 30 day shred.l probably wouldn’t have done that if l knew my husband was going to suggest a walk in Ness gardens, it’s slightly hilly and l was chasing the kids a bit.

Booked after school for the next two weeks.

Day 79 - my eye is so sore today and l haven’t got the motivation to dress up for our family meet up before the number goes down to 6, so l have put on a relaxing pair of jersey trousers and a t shirt.

I’m going to do some sewing later to try and and repair some clothing so l don’t have to buy new things but if l am honest l will need new boots and a biker jacket. Probably work trousers before this has finished as well.

I am allowing myself the next two days off now as l feel this will be it till Christmas that l have two days off together. I need to admit this though l am so pleased there’s no nativity plays/ school assembly’s l have to plan around this year, does that make me a bad mum? And please no one ask how l got on with those bloody christmas decorations I looked like a price of walking tinsel raking them to the tip.

I can’t believe it’s been 3 weeks l think at the end of the next week l will redo my goals as l have achieved some of them, it will help with the focus.

Solongtoshort · 13/09/2020 11:40

Meant to add l am so jealous of people swimming ours are still closed.....

SydneyCarton · 13/09/2020 16:01

Caught up with my 30 day decluttering challenges as I have let them slide a bit. The 10th was to clear out cars, but since I don’t own one, let alone two, I cleared out the children’s craft box instead and chucked out the dried out pens and sticker scraps etc. 11th was bathroom cabinets, which for us is a box of toiletries on the floor, but at least this is now clean and ordered.

12th was clear out the medicine cupboard - again nothing so fancy here, it’s a plastic box of plasters and paracetamol, but now it’s a tidy plastic box Grin. Today is organise cleaning supplies, which means tackling the cupboard under the sink and working out how many duplicates of everything I have because I forget about stuff that’s been shoved to the back Hmm

Health wise I’ve done 16:8 all this week, and (relatively) sensible eating at the weekend so hoping the scales shift down a bit on Thursday (weighing day). Vitamin and water intake is good and I have painted nails on my hands AND feet for the first time in ages 💅😀

Friendsoftheearth · 13/09/2020 16:12

If it wasn't for this thread I would have fallen of the christmas wagon some time ago Grin I keep falling off and then running to catch up again, inspired by all the lovely posts!

Weekends are really hard because I like to eat good food and drink fine wine, so this week Sun to Thursday alcohol free, should be a good incentive, as I have a night out planned next Saturday.

Tomorrow I am working all day

So today I will do the bathroom cupboards whilst the dc shower in the other bathroom
I have a tip run on Wednesday booked, so there is a reason to really try and finish the decluttering this week
Two more tiny rooms to finish before Wednesday I finish completely
Need to step up the exercise this week
Massage booked on Thursday
Need to book eyelash dye and wax

Enjoy the sunshine everyone -

EastofEdna · 13/09/2020 17:59

Day 79

Goal Number One Stick to food plan and log all food on MFP for seven days: Day 7 today completed; need to revamp this goal.

Goal Number Two 6 x exercise sessions per week. Completed with a swim this morning and a bike ride yesterday. Had a lazy bike ride round the local park with The Niece.

Goal Number Three Writing/Translating 15 mins per day; Will do later - I have a fairly long one on the go.

Goal Number Four A pound a week until 15 January. I finally lost a pound - the scales better not jump back up tomorrow

Feeling very Sunday-ish - will finish reading my book later and that will be me done for the night.

Snipples · 13/09/2020 19:33

Day 79 - swam 1580m today which is my longest distance yet. But I'm putting weight on which is so annoying. I've had a few indulgent days in a row food wise and even if I exercise it seems the food trumps all my efforts and show up on the scales. So demotivating.

Still, tomorrow's another day!

Had a massage today which felt wonderful. Def needed it as my lower back and neck felt super knotty. Such a nice treat.
