Anyone fancy a bit of an overhaul before Christmas thread?

Helgathehairy · 20/08/2020 12:46

Please don’t throw me in the stocks for mentioning Christmas!!

During Covid everything has gone to pot a bit - I’ve put on weight, none of my clothes fit right, hair (and eyebrows) desperately need doing and I’m still a bit hesitant to go somewhere to do something so non-essential. Kids have been home constantly and Self-care & housework has become sporadic (at best!). I have elderly family members who are high risk that I’m helping and I’m wondering about exposure and contact and sometimes my mental health takes a bit of a battering due to demands from them. DH is working and we cut back spending well at the start (mostly due to me not going to the shops)but I’ve stated doing a bit more impulse shopping as shops opened and DHs job is connected to the travel industry and isn’t secure so I really need to stop. Next week my kids are back in school and I really want to get things more organised. I like a deadline to keep me on track.

Here’s my thinking - on Sunday it’s 100 days to 1st December. I really want to arrive at the start of December feeling more organised and less sluggish, calmer and just feeling more ME.

Previously Princessing threads have run on the Style & Beauty board but as this is more of a comprehensive overhaul I thought chat might be a better fit??

This is a previous PrIncessing thread for an idea, there have been lots more, including a pandemic one, but this one was started by me. www.mumsnet.com/Talk/style_and_beauty/2458842-Countdown-to-Christmas-princessing

So anyone interested?

(I’m on my phone, which isn’t great for long threads so apologies if it’s a bit disjointed, I just wanted to just get it down.)

madmumofteens · 03/09/2020 11:11

Weigh in day lost 2lbs hooray definitely going AF is helping though dealing with temperamental teenager I very nearly reached for the gin last night!

Flat hunting today for teen who has left it to very last minute as per usual I didn't realise being guarantor is so bloody difficult wish me luck housework will have to wait 😜

EastofEdna · 03/09/2020 11:37

Day 90

Goal Number One Everything In It's Rightful Place - completed. Still need to declutter, but everything is now in the rooms they should be.

Goal Number Two Lots of Exercise 6 exercise sessions per week. 4 sessions done, a swim tomorrow am and then something at the weekend will complete.

Goal Number Three Writing/Translating 15 mins per day; done for today.

Goal Number Four Log all food on MyFitnessPal - want a seven day consecutive stretch. 3 days in, 2 days of logging and when I can actually eat today will log too. We have a plumber in the kitchen so can't go in there for food: I have inadvertently intermittently fasted today - I am starving!

Scales still not budged since lockdown weight went, but all the exercise is helping deal with Work Stress.

Keep going.

Day 89, I should say.

SingToTheSky · 03/09/2020 11:50

Bit to catch up on 😳

Day 93 caught up on sleep a bit after a ridiculously early start - DS’ birthday so he was excited. Normally I’d have stayed awake but once he’d opened his presents he was playing his new game/watching his new film anyway and I felt much better for the extra sleep. Also sorted meds for the week which I often forget on a Sunday and then end up not taking my vitamins etc.

Day 92 bit of a rubbish day but I walked into town and had lunch by myself which was calming.

Day 91 went to yoga, and in the evening had a spontaneous dinner out with a friend I haven’t seen since before lockdown.

Day 90 had a bit of me time while DD2 napped - finally tried out my aerobics step and watched some telly.

Aims for today... well I had a long lie in, so that’s a start, and I’m now sitting with a massive mug of water. I’d planned to go to the gym but hadn’t booked it and then slept in, DH isn’t well either so I’m not sure what will happen for the rest of the day now. Getting a bit stressed over being ready for the new term TBH so any self care will likely involve just grabbing some time to myself amidst the chaos!

Karcheer · 03/09/2020 11:54

I think i'm going to write myself a list, im procrastinating.

I have filled in two forms I've been putting off and set up the printer - so I have done something...

Snipples · 03/09/2020 11:59

Day 89 - not done a great deal so far as have had some errands to run. Will aim to do tabata vid later.

On a more cheery note - just treated myself to some lovely bits for when back at work and also bought a midi length faux leather skirt for winter to wear with a nice knit and boots. Have been looking for one for ages and found a good one in Zara today. I would never have been confident enough to buy this a few months ago so I'm well happy!

IpanemaSunshine · 03/09/2020 16:42

madmumofteens I hear you on the teen front. Mine were extra grumpy this week because their uniform, was too big, or tight, or old or didn’t feel right. Even though we’d tried everything on already. I know they are snappy because of pre term nerves but it is hard to take

Anyway, with everyone out of the house I cleaned like a whirling dervish! It looks sparkling but I’m knackered Hmm time for Brew

Rowgtfc72 · 04/09/2020 06:41

Think its day 88?
Day off today. Need to see what's in the freezer and how long it's been there. Then make a shopping list and cook fresh.
B12 jab today (hooray!)
1st ever mammogram ( I'm on the under 50 trial)
Cake. Because of the above.
I may start completely retiling the bathroom. It's been on the list for 5 years.

Happy Friday!!Grin

SydneyCarton · 04/09/2020 07:10

Thanks Friendsoftheearth much better now. Have fun researching the lingerie 😀 I got properly measured at bravissimo last year after three lots of pregnancy and breastfeeding and although it wasn’t a huge change (down a band size and up a cup size) I felt soooo much more comfortable with the new bras. Also poorer Shock

Day 89 went pretty well, stuck to 16:8 and all my self care bits, homemade bolognese for tea which the children actually ate and the fridge is now cleared of OOD stuff. Still need to actually clean it but that can wait till the weekend.

Day 88: declutter challenge is to clear out the freezer, only three drawers so not too bad. Walk into town at lunchtime to collect something and drop some charity/recycling bags at the same time. Think I’ll also aim to put away all clean laundry as the pile of doom in the kitchen is building up again Confused

SingToTheSky · 04/09/2020 09:48

Day 89 I had the long lie in (although I then didn’t sleep well last night so swings and roundabouts eh Hmm) and managed to grab a bit of TV time although most of the day was spent with home ed planning (I do see that as being kind to my future self though as it makes term time so much easier)

Today’s aim is to have a nice fun day with my older two (13/11). DD1 has been asking to go to London for ages, and her friend can no longer make it so DS is joining us. Can’t actually remember the last time the three of us went anywhere like that spontaneously, even before lockdown. So hopefully a nice time that will lift our spirits a bit, and some exercise from all the walking.

Solongtoshort · 04/09/2020 11:21

Day 89- l like doing this like a diary l think l might buy one when we are done. I made £93 today on eBay. I have eaten well and taken my vitamins l done I’ve 16000 steps and l went up to bed at 10.25pm to do my update and l remember getting into bed but l must of just put my phone down and went to sleep.

Day 88- l just bought 4 Christmas presents and hid them in the garage and ticked them off my list. Depending who l get for secret Santa l have a pair of gloves for someone too..

I just need to finish my kitchen cupboards today and do my c25k.going to my mums once l get the kids from school, l can’t imagine what she will serve up for tea but it won’t be healthy x

EastofEdna · 04/09/2020 14:10

Day 88

Goal Number One Everything In It's Rightful Place - completed. My G-Niece is staying over the weekend and instead of dodging bits of kitchen and bedroom everywhere the house is tidy and welcoming. My work desk and area is a pleasure to sit at now. The goal is to keep it like this till the C-word.

Goal Number Two Lots of Exercise 6 exercise sessions per week. 4 sessions done. Did not go for a swim this morning, I was very achy after gym yesterday. Will do lots of walking tomorrow as we are out for the day and will fit in a bike ride - maybe later on this afternoon.

Goal Number Three Writing/Translating 15 mins per day; done for today.

Goal Number Four Log all food on MyFitnessPal - want a seven day consecutive stretch. 4 days in and logged; just need to finish off today.

Half a pound down, finally. I found a very unflattering photo today of me at a wedding 3 years ago looking huuuuuggge. I think I weigh more that that now. Incentive to keep going.

Snipples · 04/09/2020 14:16

Day 88 - day at pool with kids today (it's our weekend). Managed a cheeky 400m swim. Need to do a quick workout later as trying to keep cals under 1500 a day and without that quick burn off it means have to really watch portions which isn't fun!

House declutter ongoing. Need to make a mega list of jobs and just start tackling one by one.

Friendsoftheearth · 04/09/2020 15:10

Okay, so far so bad, had an awful day yesterday and the rose was just too tempting in the fridge, tonight back to the lime and soda, and will forgo my weekend treat night to make up for it.

Diet is going better - managed 16/8 today.
Busy with dc, so trying to do anything else is just proving too much

So focus for today:

Eating well
Drinking lime and soda on ice
Cleaning fridge
Being school ready for next week

This is not a day for big goals Confused

SydneyCarton · 04/09/2020 18:19

Day 88: freezer sorted. Not too bad but a scary quantity of ice lollies which I’m sure the children will be pleased about! Couple of bits to throw away, and need to use some other stuff ASAP as it has been there a while.

Ran some errands at lunchtime and dropped off a bag in the clothes recycling bin so that’s more stuff out of the house. No real progress with the laundry pile but I have cleared some bits here and there.

DD2 has just finished her first week of school so probably will have a relaxed weekend to wind down and prepare her for longer days next week Grin

Crazycatlady2020 · 04/09/2020 23:26

Me please!!!

Friendsoftheearth · 05/09/2020 07:38

So it is Saturday! On what day I don't know, but we have our two week anniversary tomorrow.

Goals for today:

Tidy house
complete washing
Enjoy the new salads that are ready in the fridge
Pilates at 4pm
Plenty of time to play with dc and enjoy a walk
lime and soda on ice this evening
Back to school party night

I am so tired I just want to crash on the sofa all day and eat pizza!!! But I won't...Grin

EastofEdna · 05/09/2020 07:56

Day 87

Posting early as I want to make a commitment to myself to eat well today - am off out for the day to a wetlands centre with the Niece.

New Goal Number One stick to the principles of the food plan provided by trainer for a seven day run. Today will be tricky but if I choose carefully I will be OK.

Goal Number Two Lots of Exercise 6 exercise sessions per week. 4 sessions done. Still 2 sessions to fit in, but there will be lots of walking today.

Goal Number Three Writing/Translating 15 mins per day; Not sure when will do today, it is going to be a pretty full on day from 8am.

Goal Number Four Log all food on MyFitnessPal - want a seven day consecutive stretch. Today is Day 5 - will log as I go along today -

Have a good day everyone.

Rowgtfc72 · 05/09/2020 13:14

Day 87
Roll on day 85Blush
More water, less food, more exercise.
Dh was at the docs yesterday being weighed. For a start we could all happily lose 2st. Got to be easier together hasn't it?

Start again mondayGrin

gassylady · 05/09/2020 15:41

Book being read slowly, only forgot language once (late home from work) food very variable Blush Exercise twice a week as planned. Still got to be in it to win it eh?!

LittleDoritt · 05/09/2020 16:11

I'm still going but the children go back to school on Monday and it's taken over my entire head space. Sad All my new habits and routines have to wait for that first day to be over.

StargazyDrifter · 05/09/2020 16:31

Just to say a big well done to all of you. Have been admiring this thread from afar by night (teething toddler) and it’s genuinely inspiring to watch all your progress.

So much so, that I’ve found myself drinking 2 litres of water the last 3 days and religiously using my long-forgotten anti-ageing stuff from The Ordinary. It’s starting to make a bit of a difference already!

Allmyfavouritepeople · 05/09/2020 21:39

Lost track of what I've done on each day except to say IT'S A FUCKTON.

Kept up with my fasting apart from today.
Done 1 billion house jobs. Usually do two things a weekend such as trim back the garden or fix a wonky drawer but got visitors coming on Wednesday so done at least 12 jobs since Thursday night on top of working!

Tomorrow's list
Clean kitchen and bathroom grout
Paint damp-proofed wall
Tidy spare bedroom
Tidy bedroom
Bake

Solongtoshort · 05/09/2020 23:00

Day 88- l have a clingy sick child half a day in work which meant fewer steps 12800, l am sleeping so much better and l really believe the vitamins are helping, l have been taking magnesium it’s meat to hep with sleep and anxiety.

Made another £54 on eBay. I think l am going to buy a new job with the money l make.
