Omg it's not a good day. I hoover every day. I wash pots up everyday. Infact over the weekend My kitchen was repainted by us and we cleaned the tops of the cupboards etc so it's nice and clean. This morning I came down and noticed a couple of maggots next to the washer. I lifted up my mop bucket. There were more under their. I lifted up a handbag that was on the floor and there's maggots under that. They are under a pair of shoes. They are under the decorating paint tin. There were a couple under the rubbish bag but that doesn't seem to be the source. The doors are open everyday at the moment all day. We have children so crumbs are a thing but I hoover daily so they are cleaned up regularly.

Why has this happened? Mortified and grossed out. I feel disgusting.

Ewww I hate maggots I had that trouble a year ago they literally just appeared all over my kitchen managed to get rid of them eventually.
I was like you cleaning everyday ect. No reason why they appeared.
The thing with maggots that I found last year nothing kills the little sh1ts.
The thought is just making me wanna puke!

I'm not sure. I've found three under my washer. 2 under a kitchen cupboard. So they are sort of spread. Did find some dust bunnies under the washer and a couple of pieces of dry pasta and a piece of broken biscuit and a couple of plastic toys. But not really maggots there.

I'm not in the UK, but here we can buy scouring power (like Vim) in the dollar store. It totally kills maggots dead. Can you still get it there? How big are the maggots? Little, tiny maggots may be fruit flies or drain flies. Bigger maggots mean maybe something has died.

The issue may be that you have the windows open and flies or moths enter to deposit eggs.

They are approx 1cm long and abit wider than a cooked grain of rice.

I wonder if it's just unlucky and due to windows being open? I thought they were down to dirty homes and I wouldn't class ours as dirty. It's not perfect but not gritty or anything.

I will look for the powder. Thank you!! Our cupboards are ready to be replaced but I don't think it could be old wood really. I hope not anyway.

We had the same recently too! So weird as there was no food or anything for them to eat! I just squished them and sucked them up the hoover as it was due a bag change anyway

Drain flies are usually less than 1 cm, but it might be worth cleaning out your drains just in case. I put a cup of baking powder down the sink, then add a cup of vinegar, wait about 20 minutes and pour down a kettle of boiling water.

There might be some food that you missed somewhere.

I'll clean the drain just incase thanks. Although it seems to be the floor and none around that area. We have an extension so the drains are built in the wall and I wonder if that would make it even more unlikely.

Yuck it's gross. I've just cleaned the floor again. Found one more but seems to be done now so far. Still feel disgusted. X

@Melonslicexx With Constant sweeping them up and bleaching my kitchen! I stopped seeing them within 24/48hrs...
though mine was on my kitchen counter didn’t notice them on my floor only 1 or two which I believe fell off!

Oh gosh glad you got them out. I seem to have successfully removed them all. Still feel grubby despite cleaning it all out

Oh I had this last week I was mortified. Two wiggly bastards in the middle of the kitchen floor. I pulled everything out and found about 5 more but never found where they were coming from. I just bleached and bleached and bleached. We are now being meticulous about wrapping anything that is going into the bin eg empty cat food pouches. No return as yet but I have had to do the wheelie bin. I blame the council as they only empty once a fortnight and it's been too hot to have rubbish laying in bins so long.

@premiumshoes - unless she had a maggot delivery from Amazon whilst she was out?

No maggot delivery. Just seems an unlucky thing. Perhaps all the scorching days and rubbish as pp said.....

We had some this week. First time in years. Ours were from the kitchen bin, little buggers. They are revolting and stink! They are also surprisingly mobile and able to climb (shudder) so kitchen bin should be your main suspect. Hot weather, food waste, 1 house fly and that's enough. Boiling water kills them stone dead in a split second and helps kill bacteria, remove smell, and the ick factor.
I was not helped by DP telling me fishermen put maggots in their mouths when getting the hook ready. Vom.

Oh gross about the fisherman haha.

They really are grim. We had two more this morning but that's it. It seems they are gone basically. So hopefully that's it now. Yuck.

Hate this time of the year. Moths. Daddylong legs, spiders and bluddy maggots and flies.

We've got them this week too. Oddly eggs and maggots in the joins of our bifold doors. I think the door was probably open a lot in the hot weather and something has been laying eggs along the rubber seals. Yuck.

We have a problem due to the cat food pouches. We need to make sure they are rinsed before they go into the bin and the same for all packages that meat came in.

Huge maggot invasion in my brown bin this morning! Horrible wiggly fuckers. I did my best to get rid of most of them before the bin men came but there were most likely more in the black bags. I need to go bring the bin up and deal with them but I'm putting it off for as long as possible.

We had the same a week or so ago. Awful... I soaked them in boiling water 😂 killed them instantly. Bleach didn't seem to work.

I found some in the general waste bin in the kitchen and after some googling there's a powder called 'Bin Buddy' that you sprinkle in the bin bag and it kills flies and bugs etc that are inside the bin. They've yet to come back...

The flies have to lay their eggs in something for them to hatch into maggots, though. They don't just go around depositing eggs around the place like really careless chickens.

Check for all sources of fly-food. It's often cat/dog food that gets dropped off a spoon. I still have nightmares about the perforated catfood tin that I opened, and it exploded over me in a rain of off meat and maggots... urgh.

Yeah I read they lay into something. But they really was scattered all over with no obvious source.

My kitchen is long because it's a kitchen diner with a wall knocked out. It's about 3 meters wide and 7 meters long. They were under different things throughout the room. Pulled out my washer. Cleaned under the cupboard that has no plinth. The binbag was ok. So it's a mystery. It's likely at any point with my kids there's something somewhere. But doesn't seem to be the case.

Ewww, what the hell do you all have in your kitchen that is attracting these things? I’ve never known it. Are your bins and floors rancid or something? I’m very environmentally conscious and don’t produce a lot of waste. My bin never smells. Do you all eat lots of meat or something?
