Period Knickers

Hello,

I've scoured the length and breadth of Mumsnet for similar threads but have found nothing. I did consider posting on "products" but more traffic here.

Does anyone on here have experience of period knickers? I'm considering using them. But my concerns are the hygiene aspect and leakage.

I'd be interested to hear the thoughts of users.

Thanks in advance.

I have Modibodi heavy flow pants and at first just used them at night, but after experimenting when I was at home on furlough I've ditched pads and mooncups as I find the knickers alone are actually more effective and more comfortable.

They cope really well with my heavy flow, and are fine with clots.

I do feel the gush of blood flowing out of me, but I got used to it pretty quickly once I was confident that the pants wouldn't leak.

Like pp said, they smell when you pull them down, but when I am actually wearing them, there is less smell than when using a sanitary towel.

The one downside compared to using a mooncup or tampons is that you do end up with blood all over the area inside the pants, so if you I tend to have a shower at night and in the morning, and and period sex is messy. And they take ages to dry. And ate v expensive. But they are by far the best menstrual product I've used.

I have always used pads until now, as i don’t like tampons, so the feeling of bleeding is something I am used to.
I worry less wearing the pants than I did with pads. I had horrendous peri meno flooding, and pads were hopeless, but the washable pads I have coped much better, and as period pants are much the same I do feel trusting of them.

I bought 2 moon ups, and got a free pair with them. Excited to see how they work

Thanks @SirVixofVixHall
I shall have a ponder about them!

dd 12 uses them, they're great for her especially when she's at school all day and can't always get to a toilet. She uses cheeky wipes.
On very heavy days she wears them with a lad and takes the pad off at lunch and just has the knickers on their own.
On less heavy days she just wears the knickers, never had any leaks.
1 pair lasts a full day and another pair at night, not had any leaks at night also.

DD has Modibodis and manages a school day from 7am-4pm without changing, leakage or smell.

On heavy days she wears the overnight ones at school.

They do dry slowly that's a drawback. I wash them in the morning, in batches of 3. She changes after coming home from school, then before bed and in the morning and off they go in the wash. So we have now 7 to ensure there are enough.

On the back of this thread I've bought 1 pair of modibodi to try out and so far I'm impressed.

I'm going to buy a few more ... if anyone needs a code then let me know
