Period Knickers

LloydColeandtheCoconuts · 18/08/2020 09:15

Hello,

I've scoured the length and breadth of Mumsnet for similar threads but have found nothing. I did consider posting on "products" but more traffic here.

Does anyone on here have experience of period knickers? I'm considering using them. But my concerns are the hygiene aspect and leakage.

I'd be interested to hear the thoughts of users.

Thanks in advance.

I've got a referral code for 15% off £35 on the Cheeky wipes site if that's any help @LloydColeandtheCoconuts ?

Wilko312 · 18/08/2020 11:34

I know this is going to sound gross but do they work when you have clots (hate that word Sad) and a really heavy flo

LloydColeandtheCoconuts · 18/08/2020 14:07

That's great Practical, thank you Smile

I really hate the “trickle” you can sometimes feel with a pad overnight, it wakes me up. Does this happen with period pants too? I’m keen to try them for overnight but don’t want to waste money if they’ll feel the same!

minnieok · 18/08/2020 16:10

Modibodi, not cheap but I use them as back up on my only heavy day or last the day on the other days

JohnLapsleyParlabane · 18/08/2020 16:14

I have flux ones. They're great for overnights and lighter days. I prefer my cup in the daytime and the light versions are my occasional backup

KenAdams · 18/08/2020 18:21

Yes I use some from Amazon but with heavy flow bamboo pads because I flood. Would you like the links?

yellowsun · 18/08/2020 18:46

I got some tulip ones following a Facebook ad and an offer for key workers a few months ago. T hi e first ones took a couple of months and hadn’t arrived so they sent new ones saying I could keep the other if they turned up- they did after another month or so!

They have only leaked once over night on my heaviest day but other wise have been fine. I prefer to use them with a cup as a back up when I’m very heavy. This is due to comfort and not having to change them at work. I then wear them on their own at the end.

LloydColeandtheCoconuts · 18/08/2020 19:37

Yes please, Ken, I'm still doing my research 🤓

infora, yes, those are my concerns too. It's a very uncomfortable feeling. I'm hoping these knickers somewhat eliminate that sensation

A year ago I bought DD a pack of Modibodi Reds and some emergency period pants on Amazon Prime. The former are padded, but I don't think they are as sweaty as thin pads in normal pants.

Most of the Amazon ones are regular pants with a liner with a cotton top and waterproof backing. DD tends to pack those for "in case".

I shove the lot in a 40 degree wash without conditioner.

As a young teen she doesn't need to change pants at school, but side fastenings would certainly make things easier.

Gamechangers!

stitchandbitch101 · 18/08/2020 23:58

I bought a pack of cheeky wipes a year or so ago. They're good but then I bought some modi bodi ones recently and they're just a huge step up. They both do the job and I haven't had any leaks but modi bodi aren't as crinkly and are much more normal knickers.

But I'd say go for period pants in general, definitely. Been a game changer for me

Pericombobulations · 19/08/2020 00:21

I use Modibodi and Wuka. They seem to be fine on the lighter days but have tried recently on my heavier days (am also peri-menopausal which wont help) and I would be nervous to wear alone at work as the Modibodi were a fancy colour and I could see staining on the outside at the stitching around my legs so will continue to use as a backup during heavy days and alone when expecting it or at the end.

Grandmi · 19/08/2020 00:24

I actually think they sound unhygienic and gross ..maybe as protection if using a tampon or sanitary towel .

Mumofstanley · 19/08/2020 02:38

I've just started using reusable pads. For the first time in ages I don't have the itchy burning I got with disposables. I'm very heavy flow so use the overnights for the first two days. They are amazing. The brand is lilypads.

BinkyandBunty · 19/08/2020 02:52

I have ridiculously heavy periods (can flood through a super tampon in less than half an hour in the first 48 hours).

Originally bought Modibodi as a tampon backup and for lighter days but during lockdown I've experimented with wearing them exclusively. I have heavy/overnight and moderate/heavy.

They've been great and easily last a whole day. I wouldn't need to take a change with me unless going out all day and night. 2 pairs in a 24 hour period does the job, though they do feel quite heavy and full when needing a change I've never had a leak and they stay dry next to my skin.

They do smell bloody awful after a few hours when pulled down for the loo etc but you can't smell anything when they're up.

BritInAus · 19/08/2020 02:54

I've just bought ModiBodi and LoveLuna. My flow is probably fairly average I guess. Overnight the ModiBodi leaked on my heaviest night but were fine on an average night. The LoveLuna are not as absorbent (nor nearly as expensive). I'd only use those ones on light flow times.

For me I'm happy to use tampons in the day times, but really like these overnight. I probably just need to use a tampon as well on my heaviest night. I can't stand pads, but these feel totally different. I bought the 'boyshort' cut so I can wear them in bed with just a pyjama top in warmer weather.

Thethingswedoforlove · 19/08/2020 03:39

My dd wears modibodi and changes them roughly every 4 hours on the heavy days. Never ever had a leak. Overnight ones work really well too- never any smell or any leak. It’s hard ish work staying on top of washing/ drying them but it’s fine. Really recommend. Amazing.

MyShinyWhiteTeeth · 19/08/2020 03:40

The Sainsbury's TU Love Luna Lady Leaks pants are brilliant at £12 a pair.

The CheekyWipes ones are also good but need changing for frequently. They are slightly cheaper.

I have heavy periods and the Lady Leaks pants worked best for me.

SirVixofVixHall · 19/08/2020 09:31

“Lady Leaks” has to be the worst brand name ever.

Hibbetyhob · 19/08/2020 09:35

I have very light periods so now use period pants exclusively - they are fab.

I started with cheeky wipes but have upgraded to modibodi - there is a massive difference in quality, fit etc. It’s worth the extra cost.

Chimchar · 19/08/2020 09:42

Stupid question...do you literally wear them just like knickers...with no pad or anything?
Do they not feel soggy on your skin?

I use a mooncup but it leaks a lot. I get really sore skin using a pad. These seem like a good back up, as long as they work!

soberfabulous · 19/08/2020 09:48

I'm intrigued by these but I can't see how they would work when I'm out of the house all day at work.

I currently use a cup. On the first day of my period I have to empty it at least 3 or 4 times when I'm at work. It fills up in an hour or two.

Do you really not feel all this sticky blood in the pants when you're wearing them?

Doesn't it smell? What about clots?

Also not a fan of carrying blood soaked knickers around in my handbag all day. The woman in the shop suggested washing them out in the communal work sinks...I'm all for normalizing periods but this was a step too far.

SirVixofVixHall · 19/08/2020 11:26

They are more comfortable than pads Chimchar , yes you wear them without a pad. I don’t use anything else, but some women use them as back up with a tampon or cup.

SirVixofVixHall · 19/08/2020 11:29

You can get a little zip up , waterproof bag to put the worn ones in , just as you would with washable pads when out at work etc.
I don’t actually need to change mine through the day anyway, as my periods are not very heavy. I do change once in the day just to feel fresher.
