Monday and Tuesday to get it out of the way

FizzyPink · 17/08/2020 23:55

I think Monday and Tuesday. I feel like if I picked something like Wednesday and Thursday it would be hanging over me knowing I had to go to work later in the week. Whereas a Monday feels like the start of the week and I’d like to get it over and done with.

Titsywoo · 17/08/2020 23:55

I work monday and friday and get loads done in the 3 days off on the middle. I think Monday and Tuesday would be my ideal though.

toodlesmoon · 17/08/2020 23:56

I work tues & wednesday. Simply so I can away for weekend breaks without taking holiday.

Sakura7 · 17/08/2020 23:57

I did it for a few months and worked Tues and Weds. Worked well for me. It was nice having five days off in a row.

Just back to working full time and I really miss my old set up, but it just didn't pay enough to live comfortably.

toodlesmoon · 17/08/2020 23:58

I use Monday as my day to sort house, myself out. Get organised etc for the week, get any shopping in etc.

AnyFucker · 17/08/2020 23:58

The long weekend thing is a huge factor.

I wouldn't choose to do Fridays as all the school "fun" stuff tends to be on Friday plus most of my friends have Fri off.

lozengeoflove · 17/08/2020 23:59

Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
Long weekends, Miss our Monday blues and Friday exhaustion and bad traffic which seems to bookmark the working week.

Findahouse21 · 17/08/2020 23:59

Thursday and Friday as everyone is in a better mood, and fun work things always happen in fridays

JollyGiraffe12 · 17/08/2020 23:59

I’d work any two consecutive days not including weekend or Monday

LimaFoxtrotCharlie · 18/08/2020 00:00

Any days except Mondays. Most bank holidays are on Mondays - if you don’t work on Mondays, you’d be entitled to 2 fifths of a day extra annual leave for each Monday BH to add to your holiday entitlement to take whenever you wish.
If you work on Mondays you’ll get the day off, but you’re only entitled to 2 fifths of that day as holiday, so you’d lose 3 fifths of a day’s annual leave every BH Monday

FizzyPink · 18/08/2020 00:01

I’d not do Fridays just to miss all the “fun things at work” but my colleagues probably think I’m quite miserable Grin

Neolara · 18/08/2020 00:02

Tuesday and Wednesday. If you work Mondays you may have to take Bank holidays as holiday. Because you are only working part time, you may find that these Bank holidays take up a disproportionate amount of your holiday allowance.

Monday and Tuesday to get it out of the way

That was my first thought and in some jobs you’d get bank holiday Monday off too.

frustrationcentral · 18/08/2020 00:05

I would probably choose Tuesday and Wednesday. I work Mondays only currently and find it frustrating currently that if I need to catch up on washing from the weekend etc it has to wait. I also think as the children are getting older it would be good to escape for long weekends. I work term time only too so no AL

I'd always want Fridays off as that tends to be the one friends are off

AnyFucker · 18/08/2020 00:07

I don't understand the Bank Holiday calculations. It's beyond me Smile

Tuesday and Wednesday.

You will only get a pro rata amount of Bank Holidays so if you work PT you will need to use annual leave to cover some of the Banks. If you don't work Mondays then you get the pro rata amount on top of your annual leave.

cheercaptain · 18/08/2020 00:10

Definitely Tue and Wed. I used to work PT 3 days a week, Mon to Wed. Loved it. Back to FT now.

BackforGood · 18/08/2020 00:12

What @LimaFoxtrotCharlie said.
Check your company policy / contract, but in most roles, it is best not to work Mondays as you end up with less holiday hours / days across the year.

If you have dc, then Friday is commonly the most popular day for schools to have parents in for things (from 'special' assemblies to events for Children in need or Comic Relief, to Summer / Christmas fairs, to sports days), so it is helpful to have those off. More and more schools are now being forced into closing early one day a week to save money, and this is usually a Friday too.

Friday is the most common day for people to have off. If you are looking for days to go shopping / get haircut / get dentist appt / go out for lunch / etc, then take Monday - Wed off, it's much quieter. Unless you want to meet up with others that are part time, in which case take Fridays as one of your days.

I've done different patterns over the years - I find if I have a MOnday off, I'm quite industrious and crack on with all the jobs I'm supposed to be doing. When I have Friday off I tend to go into more relaxed, weekend mode and 1/4 of the stuff gets done as I get through on a Monday.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 18/08/2020 00:13

Ok.

A full time employee receives all 8 Bank Holidays as paid days off. A person working 2 days per week (40% of a working week) receives a proportiinate amount. 40%.

So as an employee working 2 days per week, in addition to your annual leave, you will get 3 Bank Holidays.

Say (for the sake of argument), your workplace is always closed on Bank Holidays and you get 12 days annual leave (swap in your amount here).

So..
You work 2 days per week
You get 12 days annual leave.
You get 3 Bank Holidays.

If you work every Monday, for every one of the Bank Holidays your workplace is closed you either need to "take a Bank Holiday" or "take an annual leave".

There are 8 Bank Holidays and you get 3. So to cover the remaining 5, you need to use 5 annual leave days.

This leaves you with 7 annual leave days to use when you like.

however

If you work Tuesday and Wednesday, you don't need to cover any Bank Holidays (unless the christmas/NYD ones fall on these days).

So then you would have the 12 annual leave days plus the 3 Bank Holidays. So you would get 15 days off to choose as you like.

PanamaPattie · 18/08/2020 00:19

When I worked 2 days a week I chose Thursday and Friday. All the start of the week drama would be over - I would spend Thursday catching up with paperwork and emails and have a nice team lunch on Friday.

36degrees · 18/08/2020 00:33

I do Monday afternoon, all day Tuesday and Wednesday morning. It's WFH so no travel costs to factor in. Just means that anyone looking for me doesn't have to wait a full week, and I blitz the house and do an exercise class on Monday mornings so I am set up for the week.

BackforGood · 18/08/2020 00:35

Very well explained @BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz Smile

TitsOutForHarambe · 18/08/2020 00:36

I'd work Tuesday and Wednesday.
