Monday and Tuesday, disregarding the bank holiday thing as I'm allowed to make up the hours owed the week before or later in the week rather than having them deducted from my holiday - I currently work Mon-Wed but have done many different PT patterns.

I never liked missing Mondays as it felt as thought you were walking in late every week, everyone else had caught up with their emails the day before, I missed the chat about the weekend etc. Having both together means a long stretch when you are out of touch with what's going on, I have work email remote access now and keep an eye on it through the week, that's much better than trying to catch it all up when I get back in. I rarely need to reply but at least I know what's been going on.

Forevercurious · 18/08/2020 07:35

Tuesday and Wednesday would be my preference.

FippertyGibbett · 18/08/2020 07:37

Not a Monday as you have to take Bank Holidays from your annual leave.

Jenniraffe · 18/08/2020 07:47

Tues & weds
I use Mondays to catch up on things from the weekend and weekends are more relaxed without that Sunday night feeling.

Mommabear20 · 18/08/2020 07:50

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday (a combination of those 3), but always consecutively.
Monday is always a shit day, first day after the weekend, no one wants to be there.
Friday, Saturday and Sunday are your long weekend days.

vanillandhoney · 18/08/2020 08:07

Tuesday/Wednesday.

Not Monday's due to the bank holiday thing, and also not Fridays due to Easter weekend. Plus it means you can go away for a long weekend and not use any annual leave.

I never liked working Thursdays at my old job as it was always really quiet and the day dragged!

Doje · 18/08/2020 08:09

I work Monday and Tuesdays. I have to do Mondays because of the industry I'm in, but honestly bank holidays are an arse. If I don't want to take it as holiday I have to work another day in lieu. With younger kids that means you're paying for Bank Holiday childcare, which you can't use, plus another lieu day that you also have to pay for. It's a pain.

I'd probably choose Tuesday / Wednesday. Gets them done early in the week, and out of the way.

Dino90 · 18/08/2020 08:12

I’d work Tuesday and Wednesday

moofolk · 18/08/2020 08:13

Wednesday and Thursday

Crunchymum · 18/08/2020 08:15

I do 3 days but I've done latter part of week (Weds-Fri) for a few years and I now do early week (Mon-Weds)

Much prefer early week, as come Wednesday I am done.

Working Monday doesn't bother me, I have school age kids so Monday is Monday whether I work or not.

TheChosenTwo · 18/08/2020 08:30

Definitely Tuesday Wednesday because for me the draw of a long weekend is always huge! A Friday-Monday European city break is my ideal but I’m not allowed to take holiday during term time.

Catlover77 · 18/08/2020 08:41

Definitely not Mondays due to the leave you would need to use. I cannot understand part-timers who choose to work Mondays, it doesn’t make sense using a good proportion of your leave allowance

AnyFucker · 18/08/2020 08:43

This is all very helpful.

Tues/Weds seems to be coming out on top

One of my part time jobs I do Tuesday and Wednesday.
Works really well.

CeibaTree · 18/08/2020 09:33

I work 2 days a week and have done it in various combinations, but I've settled on Tuesdays and Thursdays as the best options - you get a day off either side of the weekend, and a day in the middle of the week. Agree with the previous advice, Monday would be a bad day to pick due to the Bank Holiday issue.

Fedup21 · 18/08/2020 09:37

Tuesday/Wednesday

Ragwort · 18/08/2020 09:38

Sat/Sun ... prefer to be off during 'quieter times', no young DC at home now but if I did have it would enable DH to do all the 'family' stuff Grin. Nicer atmosphere at work (in my job anyway) at weekends. I do work Saturdays, plus three other days which works well for me , I can choose my own hours and often do more in two hours on a Sunday than six hours on another day.

planningaheadtoday · 18/08/2020 09:38

Monday Tuesday

Best days for paid time off due to bank holiday adjustment for the Monday.

Gives you a decent chunk of week to do your own thing.

Disadvantages are that if you work in a team then the five day gap is difficult to navigate and fall back into pace the following week.

Namechange6005 · 18/08/2020 09:40

I work every weekend.

Sarahbeans · 18/08/2020 09:43

Tues / Wed or Tues / Thurs.

For all the reasons the others have said.

However, when my children were little and I worked part time, I tried every combination going (I'm a teacher and so my timetable changed every year), and my favourite was working mornings. My daughter went to nursery on a half session every day, and had her morning sleep, then I'd pick her up after lunch and we'd do something fun in the afternoon. Never felt like I was missing out with her at all. So on two days, four mornings (Mond - Thurs) would be my ideal.

Rosearch · 18/08/2020 09:43

I'd do Tues and Wed. As has been said, that way you can use your BH entitlement whenever you want when they fall on a Monday.

CleanandJerk · 18/08/2020 09:49

Tuesday and Wednesday too. The bank holiday issue would put me off and no horrible Sunday night dread. Then two days work and a good long stretch again.

peachypetite · 18/08/2020 09:51

Tues and Weds

SimonJT · 18/08/2020 09:59

I would work Wednesday and Thursday.

When my boyfriend is back at work he won’t be working Mondays, so it would be nice to have some child free time together.

Tuesdays my son has dance and then I have rugny training, so when hes at school its a huge rush.

Friday is when my sons school has special assembly etc, I don’t work Fridays at the moment.

Midweek also means we can have weekends away, Grandma is a few hours drive so long weekends are ideal to go and visit her.

WouldBeGood · 18/08/2020 10:00

Tuesday and Wednesday to ensure long weekends for trips and fun.
