How much exercise do you do and what is it? I've been trying to up my activity levels to hit the NHS guidelines (in thread title) but I'm still oscillating between nothing and completely overdoing it.

What sorts of activities do you do and how many days per week?

I run for about an hour twice a week, and do 2 exercise classes a week, cycling to and from the class. I also walk my dog every evening.

For example last week I did
250mins of vigorous exercise (running and fitness class)
And
60mins of moderate (Cycling)
And
300mins of low (dog walking)

lljkk · 17/08/2020 14:50

I do about 150 minutes/day, tbh.
50 minutes/day active commuting (in normal times).

Lots of walking when I was tied down to buggy pushing.
Lockdown: mostly walking & some cycling.
Sometimes the fitbit picks up on some of my housework, DIY, gardening, too.
I pine to go regular swimming, again.
Run instead of cycling in winter.
I have no appetite if I don't exercise. Love my food, so gotta exercise to be able to eat.

Subeccoo · 17/08/2020 14:51

Swim 5x a week, run x 3, gym x 3, numerous long walks.
I don't have little children anymore so I have plenty of me time before and after work and at the weekend.

According to my Fitbit I do 1000-1300 minutes per week. I walk a lot, at least three hours a day, often more, and then I do Pilates/Yoga/weights 4-5 times a week.

Trashtara · 17/08/2020 15:08

35 minutes of HIIT 4-5 times a week. Occasional brisk walk.

Or absolutely nothing. There is no in between. In the last 4 months it has mainly been HIIT.

So that's 140 - 175 minutes per week of moderate to vigorous exercise, though roughly half of that is rest (35 seconds on, 25 seconds rest).

DillonPanthersTexas · 17/08/2020 15:12

According to my Fitbit I do 1000-1300 minutes per week

Are you a postie? Grin

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 17/08/2020 15:26

3x 45 minutes Zumba
2x45 minutes dance
2 x 1 hour Pilates
1x1hour yoga

30 minute walk most days.

vanillandhoney · 17/08/2020 16:10

I'm a dog walker so I walk anywhere between 2-5 hours a day. I normally cover around 10km on average.

OddestSock · 17/08/2020 16:41

I run for about an hour 4 times a week, usually at least halfan hour walk every day and I'm trying to get some cycling in as well

PackagingDisaster · 17/08/2020 17:36

Hmm. I am not convinced if what I do is enough. According to my step thingy, I do at least 10-15k steps per shift, 5 times a week, which is about 8-9k.

Is that ok? Its nights so I struggle to do anything in my two days off!

Monday55 · 17/08/2020 18:02

I do cardio work out 5days a week in the gym and each session is 1hr.

pinkbalconyrailing · 17/08/2020 18:05

c25k three times a week
plus an hour walk most days.
occassionally a cycle to the beach & swim in the sea.
no car, so shopping is done by bike

BrokenBrit · 17/08/2020 18:14

I’m also interested if moderate includes walking and yoga.
I hope so as that’s mostly all I do. But lots of it, especially dog walking!

Blackandwhitehorse · 17/08/2020 18:22

Each week I (aim!) to do:
x3 30 minute runs outside
x2 30 minutes Pilates (YouTube)
x2 power yoga sessions (YouTube)
x3 30 mins plus HIIT sessions
A few walks a week and maybe a longer hike

I mostly stick to this. Need to build in some weigh lifting but not sure how as I’m quitting the gym.

pinkbalconyrailing · 17/08/2020 18:25

what do they mean with 'moderate'? getting out of breath?

Millie2013 · 17/08/2020 18:32

I don’t do typical exercise, but I do 1-2h/day horse “stuff”, mostly dogsbody work, but some riding. I work at a level that gets my heart rate up, due to time constraints. Most other exercise (skiing excepted) bores me, so I don’t stick at it

DipSwimSwoosh · 17/08/2020 18:40

I try to swim about 45 mins x 2 per week. Plus a short run each week.

MrsJBaptiste · 17/08/2020 18:49

I've been running 3-4 times a week in lockdown but now the gyms are open (hooray!) I'm back to 4-5 times a week, training for 1-1.5 hours a time.

I'm one if the people you see who are bright red, dripping with sweat with jelly legs when they get home but I love it!

So I guess I definitely do the recommended amount each week. However looking down at my holiday wine belly is making me want to up those hours!

PrtScn · 17/08/2020 18:54

Unfortunately I’m time poor with a clingy toddler that thinks sleeping is for pussies. So taking any me time is difficult.
Up until about 3 weeks ago I did 0 exercise (I used to regularly run and cycle for miles pre baby).
Now nursery is back and I’m still WFH I use “work time” to go for a run or cycle. I use my breaks all in one for this (instead of spread out over the day) and eat lunch at my desk. Dunno what I’ll do when I have to go back to site. I probaby do about 2 hours a week? So nowhere near recommended time.

QueenCT · 17/08/2020 18:57

None

adagio · 17/08/2020 19:00

Wow. In awe of everyone on this thread.

Ore Covid I rode a bike to work - 20-25 mins each way, 4 days a week; plus school runs day 5 (usually running late so very brisk walking!) so that’s maybe 250minutes a week? - plus playing with kids over the weekend - so out and about and on the go.

Now I wfh and the kids don’t have school, so I try to do 5k on the x trainer 4 days a week, or do a joe wicks, but hard to get motivated. I don’t leave my desk then other than nipping to the loo or fridge between 8 and 5:30. It’s crap and depressing.

Montsti · 17/08/2020 19:46

I do 20,000-25,000 steps daily from Monday to Friday. This is mainly the school run (a fairly short walk but I have 4 children who start and finish at different times).

I also walk the dog 3km 7 times a week. I do 5 x 30 min HIIT sessions online a week too. I also play 9 holes of golf a week although that’s not very strenuous..

umberellaonesie · 17/08/2020 20:36

30 minutes brisk walk that gets my heart rate up and out of breath daily. 210 minutes moderate excercise a week.
I lift weights 2/3 times a week on top but my stamina weight and general fitness has improved greatly over lockdown by adding the walking

Moranne · 17/08/2020 20:44

Weightlift at least twice a week and “Jeff” at least twice a week. Average about 10km per day - I love walking but sometimes I’m very slow as it’s good thinking time.

My cardio isn’t good and I’m really missing my weekly dance group.

Redshoeblueshoe · 17/08/2020 20:51

I'm aiming for 10,000 steps a day. But reading this thread I feel really lazy Blush
